Dyna my grandson here in the US was speech delayed. I had him tested at age 2 and he began therapy with the instructor also coming to the house and gave instructions to mom and me. Later transferred to preschool and kindergarten and home. Placed in special class at age 4 for preschool and kindergarten along with therapy and our walking with him. By the end of 1st grade he scored higher than anyone before him at that grade and tested out the therapy at the end of second grade with teacher complaining that he was talking too much.
I mentioned this before to you. Please listen to the therapist and begin the online. You have missed 3 years don’t delay. If they don’t include you I’m sure there are ones who will. Just do it. My grandson graduated high school with honors and attended an Aeronautics University

Hi dyna, it is with an open mind I send you this message. I do not mean any harm especially because it's a sensitive situation with a child. I am a Nigerian who worked as a nursery and kindergarten teacher in Dubai for many years and i have seen these situations in many children over the years. From what i see while you asking your son questions, I do not think speech delay is what the situation is with him. If you pay attention well, he doesn't understand some of your questions, therefore, giving answers that doesn't align. Even if he can not speak, if he understands the question, there are other ways he will answer you via body language and that way you can tell clearly that he understands you but can't put it in words and that is how we all understand our new borns amd toddlers who are not able to speak yet. When we encounter these situations in children during my teaching days in schools in Dubai, we as teachers call the attention of the school principal or the special needs teacher and they communicate this information to the child's parents to take the child for diagnosis. If confirmed that the child has any of the special needs situation, help starts immediately for the child in school. These children are taken for atleast an 1 hour session with the special needs teacher and then return to normal class. The school and the parents work together to help such children. Please and please, from what i see based on my experience, I strongly believe this is not speech delay situation. Please find help for him. I know you live in a village, but please find a way. I pray for the best for you

Dyna congratulations to you & your son for his language/expressive dev. I listened to him and feel that he speaks and just need to connect the words he has learned via your self home schooling. My suggestions are calm down, it's not the end of the world. Try and buy the a collection of beginners children books. I remember buying the Bernstein Bears book and others for my kids to grow their vocabulary. You & your husband are financially stable to may be find a small apartment in the city where there are English speaking schools to enroll him in kindergarten. Try it for a term and evaluate his speech therapy. In US the speech therapist will help with the repetition of words called echolalia. Please avoid using " he does not speak". As a Healthcare professional, I learn during my college years that boys most time may be slower than girls. I worried about one of my boys. I sought therapy evaluation for him because at age 4, he spoke in short concrete words, couldn't pronounce some words correctly just like your son, and expresses himself more with drawings at the daycare and home. I was given a folder with words that begins with those words he had difficulty pronouncing to read to him at home. All my fears went away without any issues in subsequent grades. He ended up attending one of the top Ivy league school with a good job. Your son will succeed and you will be amazed but try a small apartment in the English speaking school at Saudi Mondays to Fridays and come home to Hubby and Dad weekends just for a term. This is just my take and please present your children to God everyday and ask him to give you wisdom to tackle this. Trust me, it will be history. Good job 👏

The nostalgia I had watching this made tear up so bad. My daughter was speech delayed at two and could only say thank you. I was given a window period to work with speech therapist if she still can’t make basic sentences, she will be considered a child under the spectrum. When I informed my mum she was like bring her home (Ghana). She went to school immediately, had speech therapy for about two years. Came back to me after six years. She is now 13 years in 8 grade gifted class. Could never be proud of my mum decision considering me and my husband being educators but decided to listen to my mum. I teach 2-5 grade special education class here in Florida. My dear Dyna if you can take him back home as you said for a couple of years so he can socialize and also consider an evaluation and also speech therapy. He will be fine in Jesus name. I understand your concern. Oh mine.

Dyna is homeschooling him because she probably didn’t like the school system over there. Now being at home, he is picking up gradually which we all hope he will be able to make simple sentences when mummy or anyone asks a simple question but with the concern of the mother, I was just agreeing with her that taking him back home for sometime as Dyna said herself might also help.

Hi Dyna, my humble suggestion is to take your son to a specialist for some test or diagnosis and then proceed to whatever is recommended. Personally, I don’t think homeschooling will solve the issue. I’ve watched this video and I think that he can speak, but he has a problem to express himself. However, the underlying factor must be diagnosed. I hope there is a possibility to intervene as soon as possible. Please don’t wait till he’s older.

Hi Dyna, there are many good English schools and speech therapists in Riyadh. My humble suggestion for you is to relocate to Riyadh with the kids so that you can enrol them in nursery school. Your husband can still be in the village and visit the family when he is off duty. Or you can send them home(Nigeria) which is the best.
I'm in a similar situation with you; I'm in Riyadh but my spouse works and lives in the village. He comes home during weekends/holidays. We did this to help the kids get a better education and for their social interactions with other kids.
NB: I have a maid who helps me at home.

What a clever boy! He will speak fluently soon. There is nothing wrong with him. Boys tend to take longer to communicate more than girls. I have 2 girls and 2 boys and there are all different. My son didn't know how to converse for the first 5 years and that was just his personality. I home schooled as well-its best because you understand your children. My health visitor suggested speech therapy but I declined because I believed that he would talk. I did not want my son to feel that there was something wrong with him. As mums we have to resist comparisons. We are a singing family, so we sung, recited bible verses, and just stayed consistent with activities especially with his older siblings. My son can now communicate very well, although I have concluded that he is just a quiet boy and there is nothing wrong with him. Don't worry your son will be fine.

I commend you for sharing your child’s situation. I would encourage you to seek a professional assessment. Not just from a speech therapist, but a full assessment that explores all areas of child development. What u are currently able to see are challenges with his expressive language skills, but u need to also assess receptive language. This is very important. Also, your efforts to have him socialize with other children is great, however, at the age of 5, children’s play involves speech with the interaction. Kids of that age are not just playing in parallel with toys, for example. They are playing games like tag, catch me, soccer, etc, and this typically involves verbal communication. So if other children are unable to understand him during play, you will find that they may tend to veer away from him and not include him in the play. I can appreciate the urgency in your voice and I agree with you that you should not just sit and wait as early intervention is key. The quicker a professional can identify the issue, the quicker he can receive the required intervention. I believe someone commented that you can get an online assessment. I would highly consider that if you have that option. Pls be cautious with other parents saying “my child was like that” or “my child didn’t talk till he was 7”. That is not typical development and should not be used as a standard or measuring tool. Everyone’s child’s situation is different. Speech delays can mean many things and are sometimes associated with other developmental challenges that would also need to be addressed in order to see comprehensive results. I know that ppl mean well when they make those comments and want u to feel good, but one cannot ignore developmental milestones that exist for a reason. You are doing a great job and I wish you and Som-som all the best on his journey. ❤

Agreed, speech delay is a big umbrella. Getting to the root of the issue is vital so you can know exactly how to better help him. I'm going through this right now; expressive language issues to be exact. Getting him assistance now will help him not fall behind in social and educational skills.

This is the most sensible comment that I’ve seen on this video. Your response was compassionate but didn’t minimize the severity of the situation, which a lot of commenters did in an attempt to be supportive. Most early language development occurs at home, so I don’t think that homeschooling is the issue here.

I dont think it has anything to do with home schooling or lack of interaction (I know several people who were home schooled and are very bright and doing well today). I'm no expert, but I'm sure he will improve if he can have access to a speech therapist. Can you try to see if you can access one on the Internet? I don't know, this is just a suggestion.

You’ll be thankful for him in the future. Focus on his strengths and help him grow in those areas. I recently got my 6yr old enrolled in a musical instrument school. And he’s doing really amazing.
Your son will suddenly start making landslide progress like my 6year old. My 9yr old nephew was like that too, now he even tells stories. My 9yr old nephew shows no traces of what he went through.

I have been to the hospital for diagnosis but nothing yet has been said, they are still studying him to be sure there's nothing to be worried about. He's in kindergarten and I could see his improvement in the last couple of weeks...he has started to say "Mummy" and just last week we were at the hospital and the doctor wanted to take some blood samples from him for some test and my baby was shouting that the band on his harm is too tight, that's the first time I would hear him say that...😢

      Hello mama,
I listened to every single word you said. I have around me kids with the same issue. So you are not alone.
I am doing homeschooling as well since 4 years. I was scared for my first girl as well because she wasn't talking with others, she was so shy, at first I taught it was because of homeschooling and I wanted her to connect with others children. She is more opened now but it's not perfect. What I did without ceasing it's prayers. Talk to God about that, fast and pray. And please use your mouth to bless him with words of faith, do not say in front of him that he has difficulties with speaking, do not compare him to his siblings or to others when he is around and don't even tell that to people anymore. But use your mouth to bless, your mouth has to speak life, tell him "I know you are talking well because God gave you a beautiful mouth, encourage him when he speaks, God gave you a mouth and you will speak to glorify him, you speaks so well and I love to hear you"
Please have faith mama, trust God even if you don't see it yet. I am sure he will be fine, I will pray for you as well.
I have 5 kids and what I learned is that our kids are different and we need to understand that. We need to respect our kids, respect the way they learn and bless them with our words.
God bless you mama and congratulations for your work.

Hello Dyna I have been watching this video over and over trying to understand the situation, you've done a great job but now I think its time to change strategie, its no more about you and hubby but the future of your children, if you cant get the help you need in SAUDI, I think you should go to anywhere your son will be helped, Have you tried creating vioce Playlist for him to listen then repeat back as a home work, answers to all the questions he could'nt respond, of course with a premio if he repeats what he listened to before ,am sure you know what to do drastically to help your son, its just DIFFICULT, Your son needs to be in school, sport, speech terapie now, he will talk absolutely, he is ALMOST there, seek help wherever you and hubby will get it, I LOVE YOU DYNA ❤❤❤❤❤

My son is currently 6 and even though he has a speech therapist it is still not 💯 okay. You are not alone I am also not panicking about that because I know it is just a matter of time.
I commend your efforts. You have done a great job home schooling him. Over the years I have come to realise that he needs to speak more than just sitting and watching cartoons. I encourage him to play with his brother that way they will both communicate more.
Just stay calm and keep doing what you are doing and with time, he will be fine. Believe me I can clearly understand your son better than mine. So just stay calm

My first son had same issue. Academic wasn’t the issue at all.
He started speaking few months to 5yrs.
I changed his Montessori school to impoverished school with lot of pupil. I believe that made the difference because of the setting.
I personally prayed fervently and help him read at home.
Pls don’t panic. I believe your current environment plays a role.

Don’t be hard on yourself, Dyna. You are doing amazing. I believe the environment and the fact he is the first child could play a role in this. My 1st two kids were born in Saudi and we left when they were 3 and 1. I noticed same with my 1st and as soon as we went to a new country and put her in school with her peers, she literally turned to a chatterbox before our eyes. So if that option is not available to you now, I’d suggest more communication with his peers. Organise more play dates and mum dates. ❤❤

Hello Dyna. Well done taking care of three under-fives. I always love your authenticity and vulnerability in keeping it real. Your son is brilliant! He can count in tens to a thousand and all. I don’t think his issue is merely speech delay. I am a medical doctor by profession and this will be my sincere recommendation. Please take him to a Pediatrician for detailed evaluation. My possible differential here is Autism spectrum disorder(ASD) which is a chronic condition that requires a comprehensive treatment approach. Individuals with ASD have varying degrees of impairment in social and behavioral function. Management must be individualized according to the child's age and specific needs. Management of ASD requires a multidisciplinary approach that makes use of the child's strengths to address his or her weaknesses. I hope this helps. Well done mama!

Just think of it as exploring another avenue to put your mind at rest, cos your hubby is a medical professional, both of you are certainly knowledgeable about seeking medical tests when symptoms present themselves. You have nothing to loose at all by seeking a specialist at this point. I love the way you handled your health discomfort with your IUD & contraception, your recent surgery amonhst other things. I've you read about "Hyperlexia " ?
Where a child is highly fascinated with letters and numbers, can do better with concrete rather than abstract, and have difficulty in expressing (communication).
I suggest you do more research on it.
I believe that with speech therapy (vocal and motor imitation, modelling, and supporting social interactions, etc)
    ABA therapy
Occupational therapy: it would support him to thrive.

This is so my son. He’s 6 now and thriving. I’m happy to have found a community in your page. I’ll keep following your page to see how your 5yr old progresses.
My son started reading at 2. He receives awards at his school but he’s speech delayed - can’t communicate. I’m not in a haste, the days of worrying are over. With the progress he’s made recently, I now know for sure he’ll do everything with time. Hang in there Dyna, they’re only taking their time but will eventually evolve in his time.
Ps: I’m in the US, and my son started attending daycare at 6months, and has been receiving therapy since he was 18months. So it’s nothing about what you’re doing or not doing right. They’re just taking their time and will eventually get there. My 6year old is also a tech guru.
Gratitude is one thing that has helped me lately- If you focus on their strengths, you’ll get to appreciate them more. I’m so thankful to God for my son. He’s got loads of talents. When it’s time, he’ll reach all of his milestones.

Hi Dyna, do not panic. He probably has very high functioning Autism. He needs just neurodevelopmental support: speech therapy n occupational therapy targeting perceptive sensory stimulation.I watched him for 60 Secs and could tell already . Yes they r usually ahead of their Age cognitive wise. Their brains r like photocopy machines… they can read very well. They r very retentive but have Problems with Speech and understanding social interactions. They r usually very smart. He just needs early intervention and support. You know back home , we use to think Autism is when s.o is incapacitated. But here in Germany or in western world there is something called high functioning Autism…. The type the world Stars have… Albert Einstein, Ellon Musk, Bill Gates. Read about the world Stars with Autism. Also read about Autism. So do not bother, he just needs neurodevelopment Support to bring out the star in him.

Yes, there's progress and actually, time helps.
One of my twins has speech /communication delay. She started reading before 3years. She counts well. Knows months of the year, planets, flags etc... So sharp by book but simple things like communication and some simple things kids are supposed to, she couldn't and her twin made it obvious she was delayed.
Therapy helped us. Speech and occupational. She's so much better now and she will be 5 next year January.
I can relate to the uncertainty but on the other hand, just know that you are doing ur best and time helps.
    Early intervention is key.
Look for resources. Forget name tag, diagnosis etc. Just look for resources that will help you help ur child in the challenges he's having.
Also, expand his strengths so it doesn't get dormant.
I see my daughter asa wizkid even though toilet training and basic things other kids learn easily was difficult for her.
    I count my blessings.

He is responsive with his academics which shows a good recall, i guess exposing him to more interaction of his age would help and dont forget he was going to school, seeing children of his age and forming behavioural pattern... pulling him out and homeschooling which is not bad might have been a contributing factor, just give him time and engage him interactive wise with alot of intentionality.
