    I just read an official letter from the Minister of Health yesterday posted by Diaspora group online.
    It was clarifying this matter. They're looking into it but the law hasn't been passed yet. It advised visitors to ignore the rumours and report the matter appropriately if you find yourself huddled about the issue. I wish I could post the letter here.

    Hello C.W. Thanks for touching on this prospective Ghanaian healthcare policy…
    It doesn’t make sense given that, Ghana has none of the following Healthcare Prerequisites needed for the policy to work effectively.
    The Ghanaian Government, NEVER TOOK CARE OF ANY FOREIGNERS DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC. They instead exploited them by charging them exorbitant fees paid in Foreign Currencies for tests given to many other nations as gifts.
    Ghana has none of the following;
    1) No EMS services because the emergency medical systems are not part of the national healthcare terrain.
    2) There is no National Emergency 911 or 999 service linked to functioning well equipped and professionally staffed ambulances to transport the sick from home to a medical facility.
    3) There are no modern commuting systems designed to accommodate heavy traffic as well as emergency medical transportations.
    4)Ghana does not have good well equipped and medically regulated well stocked hospitals.
    4)Ghana has no laws which teaches drivers what to do when an emergency vehicle appears in heavy traffic…There are absolutely no regulations binding drivers in Ghana and auto insurance is not enforced by any means.
    5)The so-called world class hospitals in Ghana are severely lacking in services and equipment.
    6) Even with that silly policy, Foreigners would still have to pay heavy admission fees or stay in the ambulance or means of transportation without any First Aid.
    7) Ghana is no where near your nations when it comes to basic national development, let alone, that of socioeconomic on a grander scale.
    8)Ghanaian hospitals are not as organized as those in your foreign nations because, we as a nation stopped developing in 1966 and have since then hyped ourselves on the global platform with what was left of our once vibrant thriving nation.
    9) Our Leaders fly overseas to Western nations to receive basic healthcare and some have even passed away in ambulances, trying to navigate the very roads and highways they failed to expand and maintain.
    10) Ten out of ten people you meet on the streets of Ghana are not CPR certified and the same percentage, have no clue about Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation.
    11) CPR is not enforced for educational Staff, Childcare Center Staff, Hospital Staff, Hospitality Business Staff and even people who work in the Seat of Government Facilities.
    Don’t be deceived, for we a nation in severe need for reconstruction, rehabilitation and crucial national recovery.
    This policy has no advantages in a stagnant retrogressive nation such as ours, which is badly in need of socioeconomic national developmental healing.

      Meanwhile, every Ghanaian knows that you can sit in every corner in Ghana and called Ambulance to pick you.
      Our hospitals are not enough that's why the government asked London base architects to design and build 111 hospitals across Ghana.
      Many visitors don't know they can be on National health insurance in Ghana.
      Everywhere you go there are stubborn drivers that's why in Ghana we've introduced Camaras on the street to check these kinds of things.

I mean per visit so as long as you are a non UK resident in need of a health service 10 times during your visit, that's multiplied by £65.00. @joycegyedu9341,
      It may seem a good idea from a UK perspective, but what you fail to admit or realize is that, there’s no such thing as QUALITY HEALTHCARE IN GHANA.
      Stop comparing Ghana to Western nations, because you cannot even measure Ghana on the same socioeconomic development scale, as Ivory Coast.
      Ghana is the most hyped African nation, but you need to be on the ground to experience the mediocrity. You also seem to think the insurance revenue would go towards the long term development and expansion of the healthcare sector, but it wouldn’t. The so-called Leaders will take their cut and loosen regulations that binds the insurance corporation(s).
      Visiting the UK and seeking healthcare that charges a fee for Foreigners is not the same as visiting Ghana and finding yourself in need of healthcare.
      There are no good roads for emergency medical vehicles to transport the sick and dying. There’s no currently operating national emergency dialing system, to encourage this policy you sit in the UK a developed nation, comparing and defending, to an underdeveloped and disorganized, lawless, nation such as ours.
      Let’s fix our nation from the bottom up and then we can put the First World policy cards on the table.
      What’s the point of creating this policy, when all our Leaders and their families seek healthcare from Western nations?
      TELL ME.

    @callanwesley I think it would be fair to also show the state of the hospitals and the quality of service to expect. I also need to point out the there's no such thing as free Healthcare in ghana. You have to pay first before you can get anything done even if you are dying and don't be fooled, they WILL watch you die. Every necessary resource needed at the hospitals elsewhere outside the hospital. If you are by yourself and in pain or dying, who is supposed to be running those errands like lab work, imaging, pharmacy, oxygen etc for you? People are being asked to purchase supplies as basic as gloves for surgery. So please I know you are just reporting but people need to know what tge insurance will get them for real. That same so called health minister is aware of FREE health aid containers of medications sitting at the port and going to waste because somebody wants money before they release or sell it off and make money. This is free aid to the country. Might be good at stealing but definitely doesn't give a rat's ass about the people he's supposed to be serving.

      @@nanabrimpong3485 My opinion had nothing to do with politics, but yours did: just what makes many Ghanaians ( yourself proven to be included by your response), think every opinion is politically motivated? What happened to individual civic responsibilities? When an ambulance is used to carry cement and serves as a cargo by the citizen employed to convey patients to hospitals, would that be the fault of the govt? And if a law enforcement officer saw that, but got a "grease" in his palm, and looked at the opposite direction for it to pass, is that also the so-called govt's fault? If a driver of an ambulance siphons the fuel in ambulance for sale to enrich himself, would that also be the govt's fault? And woild you still conclude that it is the govt's fault that "people are cruising about in [so-called] V8 convoys all over the country" while ambulance " are always out of fuel" ? Like any typical Ghanaian, some people who have gotten the mandate to govern are not coruption-free either, but to argue to make it look like governments have to be blamed for all our woes is plainly unrealistic. At least we are witnessing for the first time, where a govt has given a national ID card which has a multi-purpose, including to some extent, its ability to curb fraud or corruption ( if you may agree with me)? Again, on health care, this is the first time I have seen a govt building modern hospitals in ALL district headquarters. The list can go on, and on... but until CITIZENS and LAW ENFORCEMEMT officers alike, perform their duties required of us/them, we will always come back to argue on this issue. In my opinion, much of the hardships we are facing in our country till date, is as the results of deviant and corrupted culture citizens have " rationalized" as unquestionably "business as usual".

    • @nanabrimpong3485
      @nanabrimpong3485 Před 4 dny +1

      @@Okoragyak I do agree with everything you have said, but can you define what a government is? Does a government not include the people and for the people as a whole? Yes the corruption is outrageous in the country as you have explained due to people having a naturally born bad or deviant or greedy mentality. For the corruption in the country it has become like a norm or part of the traditions which I disagree with personally, People get jobs for themselves to enrich thier pockets to satisfy themselves than to do anything else from regular security to the top minister or leaders on the government payroll. I think there isn't any patriotism practice or thought. Any governmental dealings you go to process, you have to give handout before they do it ir else it will be left aside unless its an order from above. Those hospitals being built are all signs for people to in the system to use to siphon money and also to use as an excuse to get loans or donations from foreign countries which are still not used for the jobs or development and most of ut gets to thier pockets. Look at Cecilia Dapaah, the amount of money she had in her house that were being also siphoned by the househelps that they never even noticed until way later and they were brave enough to come out to go to court amd the leaders let her go free with all that money and stopped the investigation, yet the country has become filthy and full of rubbish and not much was done, that zoom lion should be imprisoned. The list goes on and on and you are aware of it all. Look at the import duty, there are a lot of unnecessary levies and fees in there that we Ghanaians are paying which is a robbery. How can they use the cost of item when retailed brand new for a depreciated second hand vehicle? How can they charge import duty on a made in Ghana car by Katanka? Beside they also pay duty on import of materials they use for the cars, so why do Ghanaians have to pay duty again on a made in Ghana car? Its just the same as a local carpenter making you furniture, do you habe to go and pay import duty on that too?
      VAT is a scam, they still charge about 4 different covid levies as part of import duty till now, are the items treated for covid or quarantined? They charge inspection fees, this same inspection fees are again charged upon registration at the DVLA again. So there is q lot of hidden revenue collected by the government which is unfair. Besides most of these foreigners coming to Ghana already have their own travel insurance and mostly also pay for their treatment as it isn't for them to be coming to get treatment at the expense of the country, they pay just as us too. So this is irrelevant, and how about the Ghanaians living abroad and coming home to Ghana to stay if visit? What would they do? Those hospitals you mentioned all other leaders that came had peojects that have been abandoned by their predecessors and it goes on. Talking about the ambulance, the hospital staff use it as personal vehicles as if its their own shuttle but when there is emegency there isn't fuel, same as fire services also, amd they siphon and sell the fuel coupons also. There are soo many ambulances and other government vehicles just abandoned because or disrepair and poor maintenance because they are expecting to receive new ones. Even the way they drive and use them is very bad. For the Ghanaians behaviour and practices of corruption they are the same people we elect into government areas and those that are not elected like the services, most people join with the aim of getting bribes because they had to pay bribes before getting in. How and why do they have to sell recruitment forms? And why process more forms way above the number of people needed just to sell forms to collect money form people, this isn't right or legal, they know they need lets say a 1000, they sell more than 3500 and collect all that money, yet they can have a buffer for about say 200-300 in case some are unfit or don't qualify. But for greed they take all that money and still take some handouts on the side into thier pockets to get them in, now how would this person also not become corrupt in the system? Because a lot come from poor backgrounds and may even have borrow to pay for it. And our resources are sold and most of the deals are made cheap by the leaders in order to collect thier cut in foreign based accounts. So when i made that comment you can either take it as political or not because all the parties that have been in power have done the same, so I don't really care about how you take it, whetber political or not. Do you know that each time you buy credit dor your mobile phone they charge you import duty percentage on it? Just because former president kuffour cancelled tge mobile phone import duty and had this charges added to the cost of mobile phone credits, so now its a bottomless duty being charged on any mobile user for life. Which when we paid the duty on phones we weren't paying for life, and now e-levy. So as you can see the same Ghanaians who end up in leadership positions are all in the intent to rob Ghanaians off thier little money, till today people selling still pay daily taxes nicknamed landpoll but they complain Ghanaians don't pay taxes, even pure water has a tax. When you buy ECG credits or topup take a look at the itemised bill and see the deductions they take from your amount purchased, a lot are even irrelevant same as the water bill. VAT also a corrupt revenue, Ghana tourism tax added to food im restaurants before VAT is also wrong because you would go to any western country and have to pay extra tax for food because they assume you are a foreigner or they know you are they even add these to the bill in most restaurant here in Ghana for even Ghanaians which is an extortion. I would end here because this issue isn't even passed as legal activity by the parliament so its just another money skimming proposal. If they need any money they should cut their ex-gracia and use that to support the country. All loans taken is mostly spent before it even reaches the intended project. How can the government use a secondary broker instead if bank of Ghana and pay 10% of any transaction of loan to the broker? Krono krom
