  • Porphyrio alleni, sometimes placed in Gallinula (Gallinula cloropus meridionalis) French: Talève d’Allen German: Bronzesultanshuhn Spanish: Calamoncillo africano is considered as Tokoklo in southern Benin. In spite of nature degradation, pollution and encroaching human boundaries, this bird species survives in Cotonou, the biggest coastal city of Benin (679, 012 inhabitants) in West Africa). This beautiful native bird is now living in the remaining swamps, especially freshwater marshes, inundated grassland severely overgrown with litters, garbage and urban infrastructures. AGIR NGO is designing ecotourism tools for its long lasting conservation by engaging people while co-working with urban citizens.
