"im ready for 2020 also" famous last words
LOL I know. Face-palm!
couldnt help but smirk when you said "I'm ready for 2020 also" at 10:50 lol
If I had only known....
I love it that this channel has no special effects and keeping it 💯. It’s about the content and the lesson he’s trying to show you. 🤙
Great mention on 'Pack in , Pack Out'. Every time I go fishing on local area lakes, I always take trash bags. Unfortunately I have clean up trash before I even set up my camp site. Damn shame !!
Agreed! Good on ya!
Wow, nice find on the oysters.😮 Can't get any fresher than that.👍 So awesome that you and Diane go on these foraging adventures together.
It was a great way to bring in the new year! Thanks!
Happy New Year Kevin and Diane. My mouth surely watered watching you eat the native oysters from the rocks fresh and alive, the best way to eat them. Here I am four hours away from the coast but going over there tomorrow as part of my Christmas present. Why you may ask? Hubby is spending $500 on the day to take me to the seaside fish co-op to buy fresh seafood ie. blue swimmer crabs, fresh oysters, clams (if they have any) a nice big snapper to bake at home and some octopus and anything else we may like to eat. I cannot wait lol. I said to hubby that I was taking a lemon with me to eat the oysters as soon as we buy them lol. Diane's soup looked amazing and I love to eat any type of soup but Oriental soup from whatever Asian country are my favs. Looks like an amazing place that you spent the night. Cannot wait until the next video. Michelle - From firey Australia.
Fantastic!
Aww...All the excitement and enthusiasm for 2020...little did they know...
Lol exactly!!
Nice video. I feel like being there in person.
Thanks!
Nailed the match strike! That udon looked on point, Kevin. You two make a good team. Spring turkey season is just around the corner...
Dinner on the rocks. The plant that's growing with the seabeans is ice plant and you can eat the pod under the flower it's called an iceapple they make really good jam. And give pickled bull kelp a try it's awesome
Thanks!
G'day from Australia Kev and Diane, just found your channel from your colab with Taku on Outdoor Chef Life. I love your content mate, really wholesome, knowledgeable and funny all at the same time and your cinematic and underwater camera work is amazing! Having a blast going back and watching your older videos with Martijn and cant wait to see what you have in store for 2020.
Keep up the awesome work and of course, keep the old ways alive!
Thanks for the support! Glad you are enjoying the content! We are trying to finish up our graduate degrees right now, so our uploads will be less frequent for the next few months. That said, we have some fun stuff on the way!
@@catchncookcalifornia1574 Good luck with all the work towards your degrees, (I'm sure you don't need it). Don't worry having just found you guys I have plenty of awesome videos to go back and find, looking forward to what you have in store for us!!
Congratulations on 10k subs! Keep up the great work!
Came from Fisherman's Life after one of you guys collab. I'm glad i checked out your channel. Wonderful
omg I'm so glad I found your channel I love how you explain every plant and animal showing ur knowledge and cracked me up when u talked about putting the rocks back def subbed I love it
Right on! Glad you found us as well. With a couple of years of content we have uploaded now, I am sure you will find some other fun videos to enjoy. Welcome and thanks for the support!
Love the Video and Content. I always learn something new from your channel. I Like when Diane joins you on your adventures, really nice vibe. Thanks for sharing 🥰 🎣 🌻
Thanks! I love it when she joins me too!
"You don't need to be a dick about." Definitely words to live by. In the wild or in town.
Love the out takes!! You guys are great!
Ha! Love the outtakes. Looked like a beautiful trip!
This is one of the best vlogs I have seen in 2019. I love both the content and the filming. Keep up your good work
Thanks! We just got wireless microphones to test, so I am hoping the sound quality will be better next time and my filming continues to grow!
Love the videos man keep up the good work
Dude you are an amazing teacher, im so glad i found ur content!
Thanks so much! Glad you found us too!
Love how knowledgeable you are Stoked on finding your channel
Thanks! Glad to share it with you!
Kevin seems to have such a cool personality.
That's a pretty classy oyster knife.
Made by the best! Actually, we are totally bringing a dull oyster shucker next time. There's a reason the pros use a Kevlar glove and dull tipped blade.
I’m very flamboyant and active duty military (I feel that’s relevant) and I feel like you guys could teach me so much on survival. I currently am based on the west coast in the Bay Area and I feel like y’all teaching me could be amazing. Great collaboration not to mention I’d learn amazing skills! I’d really appreciate it!
Really cool food guys. So peaceful on the kayak 👌 Congrats on 10k!!
Thanks Nick!
Love this beautiful find,💞💞
this looks like a fun day to me. Also riboflavin is vitamin b2 and really florescent, I mix it into water to make it glow a lot for teaching people physics.
Thanks for the info!
I would love to see the clay, all the way through primitive firing.
You guys are lucky you can harvest native oysters. We can't up here in Oregon.
Will do! Washington is open for them I believe! Just check for toxins first.
Always great show,...may the old spirits smile and keep the old ways alive
20:25 impressed 😎
Love the video man, don’t know how you don’t have way more subs. Keep up the content and enjoying life brother
Thanks!
Really enjoyed this one!
Yes to crafts made from clay!
Such a nice video. Thanks and happy new year!
from oyster harvesting to knots to the ethics of treading lightly, so much positive stuff to learn from you guys. see you in the 20k sub club very soon!🍻
Thanks Ish!
You can always tighten up your thigh if you're wearing Levi's you can strike the match on the back of your thigh unless your pants are wet then you're going to ruin the match
Good to know I'm the only person who scans trees for mushrooms as I drive
I would love to see a clay harvesting video!
Love your channel looking forward to 2020. Keep up the great content.👍🇨🇦
You two are awesome!
Fun coastal ramble! And you found the raw oyster bar to boot. I’m looking forward to seeing what you make with the clay. And congrats hitting 10k!
YUM looks really good
You guys make the best meals (catch-n-cook) ever.
Thanks man!
Just came across your video and I like it, I Watched the whole thing you’re very knowledgeable. Subscribe 👍
Thanks!
you are guys are cute! "for you baby...for me?...babyyyyy!"
Found you via @fisherman's life but i love the content and think the primitive approach with bowdrilling and other older methods of foraging are awesome! Keep up the good work, love to see people getting out there and pushing their limits with tech from hundreds of years ago!
Thanks! I am editing a blindfolded stone tool making video right now.
Wow, I didn’t know there was koyotes in Cali !!
Tons!
Your girl is a keeper!! Loved this video. Good job guys.
Wow! Native oyster? Learned something new from you every time!
Another awesome time out. Enjoyed the plant ID section and haven't thought about coyote bush for fire starting. Something to put on the list. Congratulations on 10k!
Now that you say that, I bet it could make a good bow drill or hand drill and board. Now we definitely need to try it!
Love the new intro!
Thanks!
Wild strawberries in the mountains of central Wyoming are small but oh so good! Been waiting for another video Kevin!
No joke! I really feel like a person has never truly tasted strawberry until they have had a wild strawberry!
Happy New Years, Catch N Cook crew! Happy to see another one of your videos. Love Udon - glad you guys made a video on it with fresh, local ingredients!
awesome vid
I know where you're at! Love that area! Thanks again for another awesome video. Always learn something from your content!
Thanks for not saying the name of the location, and for the positive support! Been foraging there since I was 1.5 years old!
Love your videos man, Buddha bless
Love ur channel!!!!
This channel is awesome!
Thank you!
Damn that's soup look yummy
Riboflavin is Niacin. I bet you regret the looking forward to 2020 now.
Thanks! Lol, so much! 2020 is a year most hope to forget.
Great content guys, so informative. Love it!
Hope all is well!!! Missing you two!!!
Thanks! We are doing great, just busy as heck trying to finish grad school. I am hoping to have another video out this week though.
@@catchncookcalifornia1574 no worries. Its worth waiting for!!!! Grad school is way more important. Goodluck!!!
This just might be my fav video so far!!! Loved seeing you guys out there together. (sometimes its was a lil hard to hear ya on this video. Maybe my phone? Idk) but would love more of these. Here is to 2020🍻
Thanks! It is not just your phone, I was having a really hard time getting things loud enough on this one. I maxed out the volume settings on some clips, and still could barely hear. But Diane just got me some new wireless microphones for Xmas/B-day so hopefully our sound is about to hit the next level! Glad you enjoyed this one!
@@catchncookcalifornia1574 how cool!!!!! i always love your vids. Really love when Diane is in them too. ❤
You guys should do fishing videos as well with all the other great things you guys do. Happy New Year!
We have a few. What exactly would you like to see us go for?
@@catchncookcalifornia1574 Just catch and cooks of local fish. I'm really not familiar with what type of fishing you're able to do in California, but it would be cool to throw a fishing catch n' cook into the mix. I thoroughly enjoy seeing all the great food you guys cook up.
Love the videos man. Just keep them coming! Happy new year!
Love the video!! Y’all are awesome together..must be nice to have someone ❤️❤️
Looooooooool!!! 😂😂😂
Still got beard on this one..
Let me get this for you
*slurping intensifies*
Ass**
I almost spilled my coffee 😂
#2 not bad
Hope you guys are ok as it’s been a while since the last upload. Miss the the videos but most importantly your health and safety it paramount. Safe travels!
Thanks! I have a couple of videos nearly done but have had to switch gears to concentrate on finishing my dissertation. Guess I should upload a video with some adventure and explain to all you folks. I have a ton of great footage for you, but have had no time to edit lol!
Thanks for the quick reply! Finish that dissertation and take time to breathe, we’ll be click ready as always once your content comes through.
Very enjoyable video! 🙂
Great video once again, grats on 10k subs
2:50 Duude.. That oyster looks So Good!!
It was awesome! It was just by chance, but now that we know, we will bring an assortment of sauces next time and do it all "fancy" next time we do a vid out there.
@@catchncookcalifornia1574 Awesome! Personally I like them as is.. Nothing like fresh raw oysters, my favorite are smaller ones like Kumamoto oysters.. Maybe a few drops of ponzu sauce, a drop of tobasco and thin slices of green onion is all I need to accentuate the flavor without masking it.. Damn.. Now Im hungry for oysters.. Lol..
"I'm out here to get food too...but you don't need to be a dick about it"....😂...Classic!
Have you ever eaten striped shore crabs?! They are everywhere here in Ventura and I’m very curious to try them! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Very excited to see your videos and adventures in 2020!!
Never have, but Chensi (Fishing Chef) has an awesome video on the subject. I think the trick might be figuring out when the molt (switch to a new shell) so they are soft shelled and not super crunchy.
Is that the one where he soaks it in alcohol and eats it “raw”?
Great video Kevin. Nice to watch while I’m freezing my butt off here in NYC! BTW, what kind of knife are you using? Looking for one similar to that. Thank you!
Thanks! My brother made the laminated birch bark handle on that one, but as soon as he gets back to me I will let you know where he got this blade.
The blade info can be found here www.thompsonsknives.com/lauript.html
@@catchncookcalifornia1574 Thank you!
Damn everyone can learn a lot from your videos I have!
Thanks!
I'm not getting any notifications wtf CZcams but love these foraging catch clean & cook .
Yeah! What the... I think there are several settings to choose from then you click the bell shaped notification icon? Maybe one says "all" or something? Beats me. I'm good with stone tools, but have a lot to learn with YT technology lol. Thanks for watching!
let's spin that clay!
Yeah man ... but before that, I was thinking of a bit more old-school method than spinning...
Loved it!
I luv your vids bru
Thanks! Uploading the new one right now!
new intro! fantastic stuff!
Glad you dig it! Figured it would be good to shorten it up a bit and montage some things that happened on the channel in the last year or so.
@@catchncookcalifornia1574 haha for sure!! its like a season two of CNCC
Born in Southern California now living I I live in Texas theres clay out here would be pretty cool if you made stuff out of it that way I can learn some stuff off ya. Lol.
3 YEARS TIME TO PUT A RING ON IT :)
Hoo wawww im number one ...
How are you able to ID 90% of everything u encounter in the wild? Did u read lots of books? Any recommendations? I aspire to be half as knowledgeable as you when exploring nature! Amazing video btw.
Thanks! A life spent outdoors and always a student. I will look through some of the books that I feel are best and most applicable and perhaps will do a little book review as part of a not-so-distant future video.
Oh guys, what a year 2020 is. Any updates guys?
I know! I think about that line all the time. "I'm looking forward to 2020..." Terrible year lol! Still writing. As soon as my dissertation is submitted I will get back to filming!
@@catchncookcalifornia1574 in all honesty, I just needed a check in that nothing happened to all ya'll. glad to know we have something to look forward to. Good look with the 'disst!
When are you going to marry that beautiful girl? Love you two!
My brothers burned some when they were young! It was horrible!!!!
Ooh new intro!
We decided to mix it up for 2020!
I think those crabs were moon crabs
I wanna be you when I grow up! 🙌🏼
Lol, I'm still not grown up. But thanks!
Do you ever come down to the Malibu area?
We do not get down to So Cal very often. That being said, we do plan on doing some SoCal specific videos in 2020, perhaps in the Santa Barbara area.
what knife did you use to harvest those oysters? its very pretty.
Thanks! My brother made it for me!
What the heck! Your brother is an artisan
Do they get any bigger? I seen these but thought they are too small to harvest.
Not much bigger. On occasion you will find a large one, but really Washington is the place to go for the big ones!
@@catchncookcalifornia1574
Or Canada. I know a secret spot where there are tons of them. Need a kayak to get there.
That soup needs hot sauce.
Regarding mussels, the thought of eating the whole thing with guts and all isn’t particularly appetizing to me. Is there any way to clean them first so it’s just the meat, or does that defeat the whole purpose of eating fresh mussels?
If you went for really big ones only, you could likely remove the gut and use it for bait or something and just eat the mantle, but there is not much meat there even on the really big ones if you don't eat the gut. Larger clams are a different story however, as they have two large aductor muscles in them, mantle, foot, and neck which are all edible. That might be a better way to go for you. We have several videos on that subject if you are interested.
Catch N Cook California Thank you!
You were waiting for 2020?????? Hahahahahahahah
Lol I know right!
Go Ags
Really would like to know the location 😂😂😂
Lol, policy is policy. Most foragers would do it respectfully, and we know that. But I have been doing this for over 30 years and have sen what happens when the word gets out about a specific spot ... especially when poachers hear about it (and they do read our comments). Good luck. With a little homework, you will find some fantastic locations for yourself!
