How Agroforestry Transforms Smallholder Farming Amidst Climate Challenges

In Nakuru County, a Farmer Service Centre (FSC) champions sustainable agriculture in response to climate change. Through Farm to Market Alliance (FtMA), farmers shift to Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) and embrace agroforestry. This practice, advocated by the FSC, improves soil fertility, reduces costs, and diversifies income sources. Yielding 23-25 bags of maize and up to 150 bags of potatoes per acre, farmers in the network witness a 60% income surge. With 187 farmers trained on agroforestry, the movement toward sustainable practices thrives, fueling hopes for enhanced food security and soil fertility preservation.
