This brings back old memories 😀 I had one of them back in the early fifties, as a young teenager. It was like the one you showed in the earlier video so I presume this one is an earlier model. I ran it on kerosene "petrolium in Danish" and from memory with 5 % two stroke oil, it was however very difficult to start when cold, especially in the cold Danish winter mornings. I solved it by fitting a pushbike valve in the fuel cap and with the pump applying pressure to the fuel in the tank and forcing it into the motor. If the motor had had a normal carby it would probably had worked by flooding it. I will follow how you get on and wish you all the best.

I remember when I was a child in the '80s, that front brake system on old bikes were very common in Hungary.

That fuel mixer has a air control slide in it that should be hooked up to a control lever on the bars.

This engine is from the earlier series of Lohmann. See the exhaust muffler that is just a coil spring. It worked fine, but was far too noisy, at an unpleasant frequency. Your other Lohmann that refused to start is a later series modell, with large, traditional looking exhaust silencer. That is why it was much more used. Maybe the neighbours did not complain as much about the noise.

I've a feeling that the bike and engine were married together not too long ago. Neat newly built tank. New modern bolt crudely cut down as the mount. Guessing that the feed to the dripper wasn't solved and the project was wheeled to the back of the shed. That dripper might not be the original one for that engine but a it looks as if the brass piece is removable so can be replaced with one with a 90º feed. Google found an NSU ladies bike with the same front brake. Also had a different pattern front crank sprocket so as yours is rather rusty that might not be original. Looking forward to seeing how you get on with it.

Those link and lever breaks are on quite old bikes, before cable was made standard

Fingers crossed this one is a bit more sprightly than the other one in terms of getting it going and staying running... :P

to feed the dripper...drill a hole straight through the bracket, a "tunnel"

Perhaps a smaller friction drive wheel on motor will help bike climb hilly roads Better.

This kind of front brake is very common on old bikes with coaster brakes, where the brake is in the rear hub, and you can engage it by rotating the pedals in reverse. Many of them don't even have front brakes, if they do, they have the same auxiliary brake as this bike. (At least in Hungary - my bike has the same brake setup too.) Very cool find, this looks even better than the other one, I hope it will be easy to get it running!

In Holland too we had this front brake system, called 'stempelrem' or 'bandrem' ('stamp-brake' or 'tirebrake'). Among others it was used by Gazelle before the 2nd WW. So I assume it was fitted to your bike from the factory and not fitted later. The Ducati engine you mention at 10:45 is the 'Cucciolo'.

11:00 Imagine buying the Ducati engine and installing it to your bike as well. You'd have the only Bimoto (bimotor) NSU bike!

I've seen that kind of terrible front brake on older Austrian bicycles without engines, I guess at some time someone thought that was a good idea. As for the lock thingy, in about 1980 I got a new Italian bike that had such a lock, the key was just made from stamped metal. The bearing adjusting knob, could that be a kind of steering damper like you have on sports motorbikes? They are to avoid steering oscillations -- not that I ever have experienced those on a bicycle...

Well it doesn't need bowden cables or more modern rubber compounds to use against the rim and it doesn't need the rim to be made for having pads touch the rim, so theres those things going for it.
