I Let You Go (The Shepherd's Boy Variant) - Doctor Who Unreleased Music

  • This version of "The Shepherd's Boy" that plays during the Twelfth Doctor's regeneration isn't massively different from the soundtrack version; however, it's shorter and begins with much more stripped-back instrumentation. It begins with just the strings and then rises into the full instrumentation at 3:19.
    I have also included the variation of "Where There's Tears, There's Hope" as there is an alternative ending to the version heard in "The Doctor Falls". Enjoy.

    "Can't I ever have peace? Can't I rest?"
    Probably a question he's had in his head for years. The Doctor has done so much for the universe, saved countless planets and species. He's loved and he's lost so many people.
    There will come a time where he's tired and had enough. So yeah, he can have peace, he can rest. He deserves it.

    I was in full tears by the time 12th regenerated. He was alone but he was…at peace, knowing that his best friend in the whole universe will always stay in his heart and his memories.
    And even story aside, Peter was the first Doctor I fully watched from start to finish. He was…my Doctor. It was sad to see him go. That whole scene made me cry.

    That fade to black at the end is exactly how I wish this episode ended. Just imagine if we actually didn’t see Jodie at all until she crashes into the train in the following episode it would have made for a much more compelling story and a greater ending for capaldi’s run with the added bonus of being able to make a fun little head cannon ending for the show.

    Never be cruel, never be cowardly. And never ever eat pears! Remember - hate is always foolish…and love, is always wise.
    Always try, to be nice and never fail to be kind. Oh, and….and you mustn’t tell anyone your name. No-one would understand it anyway. Except…. (Gasps and falls) Except... children. Children can hear it. Sometimes - if their hearts are in the right place, and the stars are too. Children can hear your name. But nobody else. Nobody else. Ever. Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind. This is why I don’t particularly like the idea of a bi-generation, because it seems cheap way to get money, and only happened to keep David Tennant around, thus to keep more fans happy, thus to gain more viewership when it is announced that he’s coming back, thus, ironically, more money is gained. I loved the fact that Doctor who had regeneration because it showed us how much we loved the incarnation of the Doctor we were watching by the time it was time to say goodbye to him/her (personally I liked Jodie Whittaker’s acting, outing and era overall - even if the writing was very weak at times - but my favourite regenerations have got to be David Tennant’s 10th’s Doctor and Peter Capaldi’s 12th Doctor because they prove what Matt Smith’s 11th Doctor said to Clara before he properly regenerated: in a nutshell, it’s okay to keep on moving and changing and growing, but you must remember who you were before you moved/changed/grew). I don’t like bi-generation because it holds less emotional impact on the viewer, and I loved how regenerations made us emotional and want more time with our preferred doctors because it shows how much we loved them, and part of how it makes us emotional is the music!

    • @YamiGohan265
      @YamiGohan265 Před 4 měsíci +1

      Exactly, it also lessens the impact of how a Doctor regenerated, for example, The 4th dying to stop the master, 5th giving up the antidote for peri while he perished, 8's sacrifice into the War Doctor, 9 saving Rose and 10's sacrifice to save Wilfred, these are all lessened if we know now he could have just split in two and the doctor who died is still there, like how 14 is with 15, the whole point of Doctor Who, which even the 11th Doctor states as he regenerates, is change. And by keeping the dying Doctor alive so that we have two doctors at once so rather than meeting up with his past as a celebration, it just feels like the sacrifice that a doctor had to die so they would change is gone because they aren't dead or regenerated, they're just somewhere else when really they should be gone and it should only be the next doctor

    • @thetasigmagallifreyan
      @thetasigmagallifreyan Před 4 měsíci +2

      I hate the idea of bi-generation, as you say it’s cheapened the impact of regeneration. RTD has also said that as the first bi-generation happened, it simultaneously happened down the line with previous Doctors, which is a horrible idea, and from a story point of view alters everything.

    • @YamiGohan265
      @YamiGohan265 Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@thetasigmagallifreyan Did he? That doesn't even make sense, with the Bi-Generation we see with 14-15 they physically split in two while every other Doctor has just regenerated into the other Doctor and remained the only Doctor in the room. It also doesn't make sense in the way that, what happens to the previous Doctor who the new doctor split from, do they just sort of coexist until the old one dies and they become the new one, despite having already split in two to make the new one, which already makes little sense, or do they just die as their own person and the splinter moves on or something? I don't know why he went through all the trouble of making this mess of a plot twist when he could have just had 14 regenerate into 15 and do a Time-Skip to explain why 15 is happier and whatever else

    • @jkjordon1
      @jkjordon1 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@YamiGohan265the whole bi-generation is confusing and is causing temporal paradoxes, well for physically splitting i guess its already established that time lords can defy time warping effects in real time. So they can somewhat exist within the same time period. They just need to explain how the effect works.

    Think this entire music makes for a good ending. But the fact it was so good was the method of bringing together a small moment in Doctor Who in the best way possible such an incredible story of characters including having the first doctor meet his future self was in the way all stories were told lends to how emotional the story was with regards to the trench story and a fantastic way the doctor discussed who the soldier was the younger father of a later friend and then that sense of celebrations from both sides of the first world war and two sides coming together in song sent chills through me releasing how this story is partly true a day where time stopped for a few minutes and a minute or two of peace melted bullets and froze time a powerful message in the universe of Doctor Who to us all watching a series that has shown a little bit of the real history of our world at war but that music has a meaning about peace and peace is a powerful endeavour of the human race. Doctor Who isn't political it is a mirror to reflect what has happened in the past and what a fantastic future we shall be seeing then and now. The music of peace.

    It's a goodbye to my favourite doctor and my favourite tardis interior. It's also a very special regeneration to me because this was the current era when I got into the show and this was the very first episode I watched live when it aired. • @YamiGohan265

      Twice Upon A Time always fits as a conclusion even if not intended, it's a ending to The Doctor Falls which parallels The Tenth Planet, The 1st Doctor's final end, where The Doctor is already dying, but takes it up on himself to try and stop The Cybermen. So The First and Twelfth Doctors ends parallel to each other. Then the two meet in Twice Upon a Time before One leaves to Regenerate and Twelve leaves to Regenerate (or die, or however you see the show end stopping at Twice Upon a Time) so for those like myself who stop after 12, The first and last Doctor's endings mirror eachother then join up, it's like a full circle
