This is high speed, straight line, rough and tumble, real deal mountain biking.
It's hard to wrap your head around the phrase "chunky flow", since we've been trained to think of mountain bike trails as EITHER chunky or flowy, but Pisgah is where the two styles combine into something really special.
This style of trails is also prone to catastrophic erosion, so Pisgah Area SORBA does its best to keep the singletrack fun and sustainable.

Putting microphones on your riding partners is the best thing youâve done to your editing this year.
For sure! He is setting a standard right now that everyone else should probably follow!
I first saw that with his buddy Terry Barentsen in New York city. Pretty cool to hear both riders clearly.
It really pulls the whole video together
The bestđ
Its awesome for sure
I love thisâŠâThe only way to clear that stuff is sound effectsâ so true⊠I love your work
Loving these Pisgah runs! right up my alley!...
Love how you include vendors and all in your productions. Always great work.
Seeing a shot of BKXC on a bike w/o a huge backpack......mind blown
Man, I've been watching for a while and your skills have improved so much. Inspiring! Thanks for the vicarious living!
I'm so stoked to get to Pisgah and you're fanning the flames of impatience!! Ha. Killer ride my friend,
Love the way you show how challenging and fun the climbs can be! Too many you tubers discount them.
You know you're in Pisgah when you say "I'm IN my lowest gear"
And questioning whether your chain is still on..
Those trails look pretty awesome
I literally did this same route this past weekend with wet and squirrley conditions. It made Bennett significantly more difficult but still very rewarding.
Congrats, Brian! đ€
Awesome video!!
It was nice running into you guys at the Hub.
Rode upper, middle and lower black and then this back to back a week ago. Epic!
Sweet; Iâll be there in two weeks!
Always love to see your vids from my backyard, hoping that an RIP OG Black Mountain video is on deck!
Black mountain is SO good...
Great video. Just did Avery Creek a few days ago.... Legendary fun!
Looks amazing, I need to make that trip
I was just there last week!!! Awesome place to ride!
that timber rattler was awesome! great riding!
Avery has already been rerouted and sustainable-ized, FYI.
Follow cam on send it Sara was awesome. Sheâs such a great rider. Nice video bro. Very exciting
Another great video đ€
I actually just picked up a new 2021 transit for work it is so awesome man it would make such a great road tripping rig!
There are some fantastic trails in Pisgah area...my favorite was Bennets gap
Rattlers are common here in SoCal too. Squirt a little water on them and they go away. So simple but effective and safe for all.
I was just up there for the first time. First time riding outside of FL. Had to use a borrowed hard tail that was too big for me. Was still super fun though.
That was just amazing.
Brian thanks for explaining to folks briefly of how the trails came to be and currently how they are being maintained. Also appreciate the link to donate to PAS. We work really hard to keep up with the erosion. Any money or volunteer help is always a godsend! When you come back (know you will!), would love to take you out to NMR, Turkey Pen and/or Bent Creek. We have worked hard on all of those trails lately! Some of them are night and day from what they were in the past year now!
P.S. my wife rides a Ripmo and I ride a Ripley all over that!
Great quality product
this is such a perfect Pisgah day.
Love your channel! Come out to Northern VA and weâll show you a hell of a time, trails and plenty of beer!
just went there this spring... dunno if I'll ever go past it to pisgah again!
Brian, those little umbrella like plants are called May Apples but hard to tell in video, just fyi..
We just got done riding Fire mountain in Cherokee and you have to check it out. Solid 45 minute climb but the trails are flowly and fun as can be!!
Always good time in Pisgah...letâs go back to Bentonville
amazing video
you should do a video of a retro bike ride (90s + build)! and talk about the difference of "of then and now"!.. V Brakes ,shifters and everything
Avery, Bennett, and Trace Ridge make for the perfect day
great video!! hi brian and sarah!! have a good evening. i hope all is well.
I did these trails on a Chasing Epic trip⊠best riding in the US in my opinion
Just as a personal preference, I liked the older cam position more enjoyable. In this ride for instance, I wonder why I am watching the saddle most of the time ;) It's your choice, never mind, and I am watching for free, so no complaints. Just my 2 cents. Always envy the trails you ride, since here where I live it is kind of boaring.
You know, it's the third rider that gets bit! The first rider wakes the snake up, the second rider pisses it off, the third rider gets bit! Best to ride fourth, IMHO... Thanks for the ride!
Sarah shreds!!!!
3:30 oh man, every climb I've ever been on has been a bit of a soul-dinger, lol!
You should get BoBo , Seth, Steady Spin, and ping the Sampler! Group ride!!
I've been wanting to make it out to Pisgah for a long time, but after watching this video, I don't know if I'm ready to for the constant brutal beating from the rocks. The super technical short climbs and short rock drops seem to be the features I would focus on instead of the rim busting single track. But, once I get out there and give everything a try, I may love all of it. It's just that the trials I ride in the upper Piedmont NC are more of a constant twisting flow with constant pedaling. My trials are balanced out with equal ups and downs without excessivel roots and excessive rocks. Most of the time roots and rocks are in specific locations just to achieve the right amount of obstruction for a challenge and to control excess speed for safety.
Great as always! Brian what length seat post are you running? It looks like you are slammed. I have a 160 on my Ripmo with like 4 inchs of post still. looking to go long!
@BKXC when do we start getting some Sarah gopro angles so we can see you ride occasionally? Thanks for sharing. Enjoy the ride
Just posted a video on my channel TODAY of the same two trailsâŠ. Bennett is my favorite in all of Pisgah (yes, better than Farlow IMO) đ€đ€đ€
4:18 When you said air pressure required were you suggesting lower or higher pressure for these trails?
Pain and pleasure!
Sustainability is all about erosion control. I agree with the Forest Service.
To me, Black Mtn is the most fun downhill on the East Coast USA. Hope they don't ruin it.
I drove 750 miles just to ride it!
I felt that plead for a ibis e bike xD
whoever can climb up the stairs to upper without getting down deserves a standing ovation. I've done these trails and I gave up on the stairs
Awesome video Brian. What bike does Sarah ride?
Oooh - a danger noodle !
Killer đ€đ»
you should do a group ride while you're here @bkxc
selalu menyenangkan
Bennet is the best trail in West Pisgah. Hands up.
Yeh great ride
Likeeeee greetings from Indonesian Borneo brother
Lol Brian has officially gone full enduro, goggles on the half shell but not actually using them. đ€Ł
Avery is the best downhill in Pisgah!
Are you gonna go to beech mountain?
Is this a fisheye lens? What set up are you running?
Rattlesnakes in the middle of a trail is exactly why the Bunny hop was invented. :)
Haha so true
I cant go riding because of a problem on my bike, and we cant go to get it fixed because the shop is closed cause of covid. Watching these videos get me jealous lol, but loved the video
Hello from nepal đ
can you tell me what the brand of your bikes is and model please ?
Still with ya, Brian...
Check out West Delray Regional Park (MTB trail) and Markham Park (MTB trail) Florida
Nice rideâŠ
I was just wondering if you can share your go pro settings?
Thanks!
Just Google bkxc gopro settings, he has a website for his whole setup
I live in NC just wondering if the trail has a name I would love to go ride it food looks great as well
i wana see bkxc and sarah do a night trail ride , that would be awesome !!!
Hello! What is the wheel size of your car?
@BKXC Where do you position the go pro? waist or chest? That is a nice angle. Thanks
Always on the chest, but getting the right angle is always tough! Things move around
Came here on hardtails once... worst idea and never again lol.
SNAKE !!!!!!!!
So, there are Bigfoot in that forest. Stunning! Look out for it :-)
Very amaze nice đ stronger
What does Brian mean when he says "you could never build this today because it's not up to spec"? at 6:45
I live and ride in this area, and I assume he means that many of the "classic" Pisgah trails weren't built with good trail conservation in mind. Some of them are in terrible shape from poor water drainage management. They have deep gullies/trenches with drops and exposed roots and rocks that actually makes the mountain biking super fun, but is allowing for erosion quite quickly. Newly built trails are usually built specifically with excellent land conservation and water management in mind and just don't play quite like these trails.
He is basically saying that these trails were meant for logging trucks and not recreation. They are mostly fall line trails and don't have much outslope. Trail maintainers have been tackling this years to keep the trail from eroding away from rain and the huge amount of riders that are riding it. Recreational specific purposed trails are built very different from these. The new middle black is 1/3 way completed and rides totally different.
Where is this trail!?? Looks awesome
Pisgah forest near Brevard, North Carolina. In the video description BKXC provides the Trail Forks Ridelog.
I'm not sure which gimbal you are using... but that wuz a good test. I think it passed.
Donât think he uses a gimbal any more as he uses GoPros hyper smooth feature
Love North-Carolina for mountain biking. My friends have an oncologist friend who basically owns an entire mountain side with three great trails. And from there you can connect to many other great rides. Should have studied for 7 years instead of 5, and medicine instead of philosophy and international relations. :)
I love riding technical stuff but i always get unbearable cramps in my fingers so bad i can barely hold the handlebars, any advice?
I used to get those especially when riding park with all the breaking bumps. Switched to RevGrips. Problem solved (for me at least :)
It went together easily in less than an hour. czcams.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
What is Sarah's bike computer?
Could you do this trail on a hard tail?
A hard tail can do any trail, it depends on the rider.
See Blake Samson ride the megavalance on a hard tail as evidence.
Do an episode on Seth's new pad since you're in the area!
You know he releases his videos about a month after filming them right? Heâs probably long gone from the area by now
@@gaberomero1740 no I don't know which is why I said do a video. Next time I will reach out to his PR team for dates... Thanks for the info brotha keep ripping.
I would like to understand what "not up to spec" is on double black diamond trails.
I think it's from an erosion and sustainability perspective.
Thanks. That makes sense.
I think he's comparing these Pisgah trails a little too much to Bentonville trails that have been pro built in the last 3 years. Apples - oranges, but could be wrong.
Not up to spec in this case means fall line trails. Or trails built too steep compared to the side slope grade. This causes water to run down the trail rather than off the trail. Combined with skidding tires, this causes a ton of erosion. The trail become a ditch that gets deeper every year. Iâve ridden that type of trail where the ditch is nearly 10 feet deep and has turned into more of a ravine.
@@dfiler2 Thanks, man. That's very helpful.
Pisgah or Bentonville?
In the old days I'd make a joke about BKXC not jumping but sessioning a tough climb 5 times... now I can't because he climbs AND jumps better than me :(
That rattlesnake was well camouflaged.
My arms are tired watching this
Hi
Wait a rattlesnake in North Carolina?
Mark my words... virginia will be the new "pisgah" ! it's like pisgah 15 years ago before the crowds...
Unless they all start youtubing it then you'll be screwed also
@@mountainslapstick6170 the big youtubers already have... Can't complain too much thats how I found it combined with some locals info
@@Projectnortheast Well thats unfortunate. Thats not reassuring at all. Hate that for the locals there...
Bunny hop the rattler.
