    Nice video, I use the GWR variant regularly and can confirm their seats are back breaking for a tall person. Think your video is great, loved the top gear references. Can't believe your channel hasn't reached more people yet, keep up the hard work and I'm sure you'll make it big one day if that's what you want :)

    While I'll agree that the class 91s are still capable of fulfilling the role, the HSTs just aren't anymore, they are at this point, just too old, they aren't Budd cars made entirely of stainless steel, they're mild steel and their frames are rusting through, and their crash energy management is wholly insufficient for the modern railway, being made worse year on year by the aforementioned rusting frames, if you want first hand accounts of why these are such big problems and what else is wrong with them just go listen to @GarethDennisTV Natter on about them

    I booked a first class seat on an LNER service from Newcastle to London. I had a solo seat positioned next to a partition accessing a standard class portion of the carriage. The automatic sliding door, suspended from a track, constantly rattled whilst the train was in transit, to the point where it became impossible to relax and enjoy the journey. It did not reflect well on the build quality of these trains. The 91s are excellent by comparison, and the ride feels less harsh.

      Quite nasty that, never heard of such a problem of doors rattling. Although something I forgot to mention that certain panels do rattle especially at speed.

    I think they're fantastic. I get people don't like the monotony though, it reminds me of when 66s took over.

    Meanwhile, where they'd actually be useful, at Crosscountry, they are nowhere to be seen. The extra capacity over Voyagers would make them genuinely good replacements. To put it in perspective, a 5 car IET has around the same capacity as an 8 car Voyager. But the DaFT like to play to their namesake, so Crosscountry passengers will continue to suffer overcrowding.

    LNER older fleet in the 21st century providing such interior design and conditions, is incomparable to HITACHI trains. They perhaps are good in preservation and charter trains on First Class configuration only like LSL do.

      Yeah, a railtour mk4 set would be cool. but as I say, I let my unpopular opinions sneak into the script. For upcoming episodes I will try to be a bit more critical about it all

    Fastest Park Benches in the UK, does that accolade go to LNER or GWR?

    • @TrainMan2345
      @TrainMan2345  Před 21 dnem

      Probably LNER as the seats are only made out of tungsten rather than a substance harder than diamond that ye get on the GWR units, also the livery on LNERs units is a bit more creative I think

  • @WeirdSeagul
    @WeirdSeagul Před 22 dny

    apart from the hard seats i like them a lot. Not a frequent rail user so maybe its luck but the LNER/Azuma have had much better reliability 225s. not sure of that was due to changes in procedures or just being newer

    • @TrainMan2345
      @TrainMan2345  Před 22 dny

      I was probably a wee bit too hard on them, I should really have clarified the improvements to reliability

    Railway entusiasm should be kept in the pocket when considering that modernity is top priority to serve public interests regardless the preference of a minority of deniers. No train had smooth start in their earlier carriers, hence Hitachi, Stanler, CAF and other manufacturers having same fate!

    • @impulsivegamer1737
      @impulsivegamer1737 Před 22 dny +2

      Not it shouldn’t to be honest, I like HSTs however they do not meet the safety standards of today with very poor crumple zones as seen before. The 80x models are quicker moving and way more environmentally efficient that HSTs in addition drivers like them and also the new generation of trains are way more safer and efficient. Why would railway companies/manufacturers think about enthusiast 😂😂😂😂 SAFTEY and reliability are there priorities

    • @impulsivegamer1737
      @impulsivegamer1737 Před 22 dny

      And in 50 years time when new trains come people will be saying how much they miss the 80x models and so on

    where they not operated by virgin trains east coast before LNER?

    • @TrainMan2345
      @TrainMan2345  Před 24 dny +3

      I think what happened was they folded before the IETs entered service

    • @jimihendrix991
      @jimihendrix991 Před 22 dny

      Fun Fact: Virgin Trains East Coast (VTEC) (legal name East Coast Main Line Company Limited) was a train operating company in the United Kingdom that operated the InterCity East Coast franchise on the East Coast Main Line between London, Yorkshire, the North East and Scotland. It commenced operations on 1 March 2015, taking over from East Coast as a joint venture between Stagecoach (90%) and Virgin Trains (10%). (Virgin Trains was also 49% owned by Stagecoach...) Thus, Virgin actually owned 5% of the franchise, which essentially equated to the branding and nothing else...

    Technically the worst train is subjective. Because modern trains all have weird negative quirks about them unfortunately. Mostly pertaining to the suspension issues and hard seating. Literally what would make these trains better by a huge margin is good seating , and better ride quality.

    • @TrainMan2345
      @TrainMan2345  Před 15 dny +1

      Yea, But these yins seem to be one of the most criticised

      @@TrainMan2345 thats true , it could be that they are the most abundant high speed train so it makes sense more people will see it to critique it to be fair. But i agree they seem to be riddled with issues. I think the CAF high speed trains seem to have better feedback on TPE. although class 397s hace stiffer suspension they seem to have better reviews.

    Class 91 and HSTs in order to still serving increasing priced fares payers, need at least another full and expensive refurbishment, specially interiors wise. That Standard Class airline style configuration lacks leg room compared to new Hitach trains, but enthusiasts hate the latter because is not a Loco Hauled set. Simple as that. As a matter of fact Trans Pennine Express introduced Mark 5A sets that are fairly the same as HITACHI internally but everyone loved them! That explains how hipocrit some people are!

    • @TrainMan2345
      @TrainMan2345  Před 21 dnem

      I wouldn't necessarily say the mk4s need it as a refresh of the interior wasn't done too long ago

    • @journeysofjames1116
      @journeysofjames1116 Před 16 dny

      Well the Mark 5 coaches had the same problem as the hitachi trains a couple of years later, cracks being found
