12.8 Oxidation of Alcohols by Chromic Acid and PCC | Organic Chemistry

- Chad provides a comprehensive lesson on the oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols by chromic acid and PCC. He shows how chromic acid oxidizes secondary alcohols to ketones and primary alcohols to carboxylic acids. He then shows how PCC (pyridinium chlorochromate) also oxidizes secondary alcohols to ketones, but primary alcohols to aldehydes. Finally, Chad concludes the lesson by showing the mechanism of chromic acid oxidation of a secondary alcohol to a ketone.

Thanks for this video. But I want to ask. Since the reaction is not carried out in a neutral solution or basic solution, HSO4- to deport late that H on the C atom looks somehow to me.
What if strong oxidizing agents are not dissolved in an aqueous solution, does that mean it will only convert the alcohol into aldehydes ?
