How to recover the data from external raw hard drive?
Hard Drive becomes raw when its file system gets damaged, which in turns makes it impossible for the operating system to access it. A RAW file system simply means that it is a file system that is not recognized by windows.
If you check the properties, it will show there is no data present. I Had hard drive with me in which i had lot of important data. But all of a sudden one day when i plugged in and tried to access it it pops up with this.
F:\ is not accessible.
The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
Or
You need to format the disk in drive F: before you can use it.
Do you want to format it?
So if you want to recover the data from this HDD do not click on Format Disk.
Go to the properties and see the space available.
Go to Computer management and you will see the file system is RAW.
Reason for this are as below.
1. The most common reason of External HDD suddenly becoming RAW is if they are disconnected from a Computer or Laptop without using "Safely Remove Hardware" option. Which often available here on the bottom right corner when you connect any external device.
2. Other reason includes a power failure or a computer that temporary disconnect the USB hubs and there are many reasons.
Its not possible access this RAW Disk and access the data contained in it. However if you follow the steps here you will surely recover the lost data.
As I said earlier also, before we start the recovery process, do not format the drive.
Now to the www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizard/recover-raw-drive.htm site and download the following utility : EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard for windows and install it. Next steps you can follow by watching the video itself. In this way you can recover all of the data that is present in this RAW Hdd.

But I did the whole thing or process twice and still dont see the recovered data, I really disappointed because I used my last penny to pay for the unlimmited data recovery software because I trusted it and wanted to acces the data! I need it ..
Manelisi Billy That's strange. Have you followed the exact steps shown in the video? You must be able to recover the files....
Is it because I am using an old operating system, Vista???? because it is not windows...
because I followed all the steps but when I access the recovered data, it says its empty on all the folders.
Manelisi Billy You can do "Deep Scan" to check if there are lost folders available....
Thanks for this great video. I have an external RAID1 enclosure using 2 drives, not even 1 year old. The "corrupted and unreadable" message appeared this morning. In disk management, the disk appears as "RAW". Will this software still help? Really appreciate your advice, many thanks

I get that same message you showed: "the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". Do I need to proceed the same way to get my data on this one last folder back as showed here?

First try to scan the drive by using the software EaseUS and check how much data you can get after scanning the drive to recover it from. You can purchase the license once you confirm that you can recover it.

I followed your step and when i select my External Hard Disc(Local Disc F:) (in your video 3:16).
When i clicked "Scan" The (F:) doesnt show any files (its totally empty),nothing for me to recover, or i cant even click on the "recover" button.
I didnt format my RAW HDD.
What should i do ?
I really dont mind to lose all the data, just wana fix my HDD,
I even try to right click to format my HDD but cant (it the format function didnt pop out)

Hi, please help, when I scan my 2nd HDD here inside my laptop with easeus it appears but as "LOST PARTITION" in color yellow. And when I start to scan it just scans and scans saying "0 files found" and "trying to jump bad sectors". I left it like that for around 6 hours and it is still saying that. What are my options from here?

Please help! After I finish scanning, it only shows the Raw folder and everything is sorted into file format and every file has lost its original file name. How can I recover it in a way that it retains the original folder and file names?

The problem with easeus is that rcovered files are unreadable the metadata is gone if it's a large 1 TB or more it's near impossible to sort them all out.

Do you have any advice to recover data lost from a CHKDSK scan? Two days ago I allowed my computer to do a scan and it deleted hundreds of GB of important files. I've tried EaseUs and Recuva and both of them found none of the deleted files.
Have you got anything back? Chkdsk completely obliterated a SD card and mucked up another one so i never use it for those now, but trying it for a raw external hard drive just brings up: "the type of the file system is NTSF Unable to determine volume version & state. chkdsk aborted" so chkdsk is not the be all and end all of solutions that some people thing it is.
use live linux on a cd/dvd. you boot from live linuxcd/dvd and copy files to external hd etc
my computer stopped respondng and i had to disconnect the external hdd. i received this errror when i reconnected.i was scared, very scared. i found this video and it solved the issue. Thank You !

my dellXps 14 L410X, toshiba Internal HD may be corrupted because whenever i tried to boot my laptop it got stuck on black screen after dell flash logo.
i tried every possible steps frm Bios to fix it but nothing works ( boot priority..etc)
then i decided to use bootable pendrive of WiN7 for reinstaling C drive , but it got stuck on black screen with arrow after "windows file loading"....
so i decided to take out that internal HD and try to boot again with Usb and it works.
Note: I run ePSA and it said "No diagnostic Utitlity partiton Indentified"
and also a message of "media test failure, check cable"
So does it mean my internal HD is corrupted? is their any chance of files recovery frm the method shown in your video.

I have selected wrong partition for format and instantly stop the process but the partition disabled and suggest to format. I have huge data on that partion. After watching some CZcams video I follow this step Chkdsk F: /f
Then it says, this option not available for RAW partition. Please suggest what to do?

Hello, I have a serious problem.. My second 2TB hdd become invisible (raw) and I formatted it.. Can I recover my lost files? I tryed EaseUS, Recuva, TestDisk. I recovered some files (188gb) but they with different names and types like: .swf (92 files, each size from 3mb to 4gb). I never see that format or used it before and I can't open them or extract (I'm tryed SWF Extractor, Adobe flash player, Web browser).
