Brewing my "Shitter Was Full" New England IPA (from grain to can)

  • From grain to can video of my yearly homebrew Christmas tradition called Shitter Was Full. The brew is a New England-style IPA...but what does NEIPA's got to do with Christmas? Absolutely nothing! This is just an excuse to put Cousin Eddie on a beer can and do a tribute to my favorite Christmas Movie (Lampoon's Christmas Vacation). 🎄
    A huge thanks to ‪@OlbryggingNo‬ for making my tradition into a brew kit and for the ingredients!

    Damn Son, What fine equipment you have there! I especially enjoyed how you purged your hops in the dump valve with CO2 before the addition. Next time use silicone spray instead of WD40 as WD40 is petroleum based and this will jam up your seals.

    • @rob1965g-i3b
      @rob1965g-i3b Před 8 měsíci +1

      It's high according to the BJCP, but you do want the sweetness to stand up against the hops. What does the FG have to do with hop creep? If you never let the beer get hotter than ~15 degrees Celsius when canned I see no problem?

    • @WestumHjemmebryggeri
      @WestumHjemmebryggeri  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I was a bit quick with the video edit. After the trub dropped the FG was 1.024. But yeah. 1.020 is normally the minimum I try to land at.

      @@WestumHjemmebryggeri thanks for the insight, my latest NEIPAs were always below 1.020 but I found maltodextrin to help a lot with the perceived mouthfeel and sweetness. Have you made any experience with maltodextrin or lactose additions?

      Tusen takk 😁 Jeg mesker med høy temp for å få høyere FG. Da kan du droppe laktosen 😉 Blir fort en «rar» smak med laktose (som jeg personlig ikke er glad i).

    Great video, but I have to disagree with your recommendation to never bottle carbonate NE IPAs. I regularly brew NE IPAs, almost exclusively bottle (not keg), and have had no issues with oxidation during conditioning.

    • @WestumHjemmebryggeri
      @WestumHjemmebryggeri  Před 8 měsíci +1

      How much hops per liter did you use then? People have been trying to convince me about bottle carbonated NEIPAs for years and several people even sent me bottles, but nope...they did not taste good and got that nasty oxidation flavor in the background (even some was still yellow). Why take the chance at a style like this that is so sensitive to oxidation? Not worth trying, in my opinion.

    • @alexfurst1397
      @alexfurst1397 Před 8 měsíci +1

      12-14 g/l is typical for my NE IPA recipes. Granted, if I had all the equipment you do, I would not bottle either.
