I'm a 73 y.o. male who had a heart attack in 2009. The delay I had in reaching medical care resulted in my having an estimated 20% damage to my heart. I had 2 stents and was put on medication which included a statin. A Pharmacist advised me to take CoQ10 as the statins would remove it from my body when I most needed it to help repair the damage to my heart. He contended that CoQ10 assisted in muscle repair and that, as the heart is a muscle it would help, alhough he also said the heart heals very slowly ( around 2% per year). I accepted his advice and started on the CoQ10 as a daily supplement. I threw away the statins after several months as the side effects were severe, but continued with the CoQ10. At each annual checkup I was advised that the damage was in evidance and noted, but at my 8 year check up no comment was made and when questioned I was advised that no damage was noted on the test results. It's been 14 years since my heart attack and i still continue with the CoQ10 as it also seems to add energy to my day so it's always ingested a.m. otherwise my sleep is disturbed. Of course the medical profession has never accepted that a heart can heal.......but I know better.

      Statin doesn't remove coq10.
Statin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase which is an enzyme in the upstream pathway of the biosynthesis of cholesterol, coq10, selenoproteins, vitamin K2.
Statin users should take coq10 and K2 as supplement, however, there is no supplement for selenoproteins.

Some of these supplements are much more effective if taken with other compatible supplements. For example, D3 is often taken with K2 because they work well together to prevent calcium from depositing in the arteries. Acetyl l-carnitine is often taken with r-alpha lipoic acid as they are very synergistic together in protecting and strengthening your cells, particularly in the nerves and brain. Coq10 is often taken with PQQ, again, because they are very effective at improving cellular function which increases energy. Of course, what you are doing is already good, but utilizing these supplement synergies takes things to a whole new level.

My understanding is Ubiquinone allows the body to continue creating COQ10, whereas Ubiquinol doesn’t, therefore the body’s memory halts creating it. If that’s the case it’s not a good thing that the body’s memory stops creating its own supply source.
I’d be interested in knowing more about this issue.

I had cardiomyopathy, it affected me badly, only 20% of my blood was pumping. With medications it took 3 years to get my heart better. I am tired ALL the time, I have mentioned this to several doctors, no one ever mentions why! Just a couple days ago, I was talking to a nurse friend of mine, who is now 81, she too has heart problems now and she was telling me her doctor told her about CoQ19 and she mentioned it to me and then today I see your program on CoQ10. Thank you. I’m hoping this helps me. I sleep most the time and I have things I need to do, but don’t have any energy at all.

I have tried CoQ10 it does absolutely nothing for me as far as any energy goes. No matter how many vitamins I take or what I take it doesn’t seem to matter, I’m still tired all the time. I have asked different doctors about it, none will give me an answer or a solution. I just attribute it to heart related.

Have you took A B complex vitamin?? You could be low on b12 ot b6 they help with energy and the heart. Make sure you chk the B12 in it because some b12 is made with Cyanocobalamin which has some cyanide in it. The other B12 is made with a long word starting with an M and thats the one you want. B6 helps with cardiovascular issues. But, a good all around B complex has them all in them!! Also if you're staying tired have you had your thyroid checked? Because about 80-90% of ppl inthe USA are low on iodine. Because by the time our iodized salt is processed theres barely any iodine left in it. So I take Kelp and Spirulina for mine. They help alot of things especially the spirulina. When my sister was younger she was an alcoholic and drank 2 fifths of tequila a day. But, when she was finally off the alcohol her Dr. Said I need to check your liver. He did and hers was fine!! She took spirulina everyday. 3 tablets. Its a blue- green sea algae. Just a thought that might help. If anyone has any urinary tract infection or any yeast infections get you some alfalfa tablets. I order my vitamins from Puritans Pride. You take 5 tablets in the morning after breakfast with a pint of water, then 5 in the evening with a pint of water and drink water through out the day. The alfalfa absorbs the infection and it passes through your urine. But, if you don't have an infection just take 3 a day with water.

Thank you for your concern and information, but I take 10,000 mcg B12, B Complex, Iron, Vitamin D3 and a multiple vitamin at night every day………..makes NO difference, I’m still tired. I have figured out it’s the COPD that makes me tired not anything else.

Statement and a question: first, I took a statin for about 3-4years and felt awful for most of that time not knowing why. There were moments where I took CoQ10 but did not know that it helped to counter the negative effects of statins. I have since started taking red yeast rice instead of statins and have taken ubiquinol over CoQ10 because it is less expensive and your body absorbs more. My understanding is that once CoQ10 is digested by the body, it produces ubiquinol. The question then is what are optimal levels of ubiquinol doses versus CoQ10. .
