Maple Syrup Season! ~ Sweet moments outside

  • I love the ritual of tapping maple trees in the spring, collecting sap in buckets, pouring the goodness into pots, and boiling it over an outdoor fire. It turns to liquid gold before your very eyes! All the senses are involved. It's a lot of work, but so enjoyable! And in the middle of winter when you can open a new jar of syrup you made yourself (well, with the help of God and the trees) it is pure heaven!

When I was growing up in Vermont sugaring season was awesome. Several friends families had farms and each had its own sugaring house. We'd help empty buckets into a horse drawn sleigh or wagon with a big tank on the back. Then modern harvesting happened and plastic lines went from tree to tree right down to the sugar house. Sugar on snow was the treat we got at the end of emptying the buckets of sap into the sleigh. Memories of a more simple time.

Pretty cool yum yum. We moved into our house last November and all I've thought about was making syrup because of all the maples on our property but the season came so fast I didn't get prepared enough to do it right so I'll just have to do it next year and that gives me a year to prepare have a spot in the trees to build my fire pit. A lot of fun to be able to watch it be done anyways. It's one one my most favorite memories helping my great grandparents as a young kid at the sugar shack and eating maple snow cones..

I can remember 50 some years ago helping make maple syrup. It was a 24 a day process so i'd nap on the floor of the 3 wall sugar shack. When the sap looked like it was gonna boil over we'd add a little cream and it would go down. Love having some syrup poured over some clean snow to eat.

I love the taste of fresh maple syrup. My brother's friend Jean was doing maple syrup with his father & took over the farm & is still doing it. I have visited him while the vats were going. The free tastes were fantastic. The gallons he sold were the same. You have made my mouth water just watching this video. Nuttin like maple syrup on French toast.

my mom tried to make maple syrup one year when a friend of the family gave us a gallon of sap, everyone tried to tell her you will end up with a thimble full or less but she said she knew what she was doing, well she boiled it for a couple hours and jarred up about a quarts worth of sap. well that night we had pancakes with her syrup, .............have you ever had pancakes during a rainstorm and there was no cover to hide from it? well needless to say that was the last time us kids had real maple syrup till we left the house, plus that was last time we had soggy pancakes too. i also think that was the last time we let our mother cook at all. all us kids turned out to be pretty good cooks, but its still a dream to someday make a batch from start to finish. thanks for bringing back some funny memories. i hope we get to see the final product poured over a stack of cakes. think ill pick up a jar the next time i go shopping.

I did it to the three maples in my back yard, just to see if I could and amuse the neighbours. I started with about 5 gallons ended up with about a pint . I did learn something handy for people like me just fooling around, that is to start the sap boiling as soon as possible, it goes bad if stored for even a day, lost about another 5 gallons that way. . I also learned it is entirely impractical on such a scale, but fun is often like that. Also that white maples don't give half as much as sugar maples.

me too.... i missed it last year cause it ran early in Feb and I thought "aw it will run again" and it never did! Coulda killed myself for missing it! So nice to have a supply of maple syrup again! I get anxious when I have less than a gallon on hand!

Have you tried beach syrup??? Ray Mears, an outdoor man, gets it to drink straight from the tree. If I’m ever stuck on an island, he’s the man I want. What he doesn’t know you can wright on postage stamp. He even makes a plug to protect the tree after he’s done. Great guy. 💖❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧🤗

It is always fun to watch someone else do all of the work. I am envious. How much land do you guys have, it looks like an incredible property. Thanks for sharing, now someone needs to invent sharenet so we can get a taste of fresh maple syrup.
