  • For years we've spoken about the rising of the Chinese motorcycle makers and how they are in-line to leave a huge dent in the western motorcycle world. To date, they have not left much more than a scratch, but now we have the Zontes 310X. Is everything about to change? Bill Hunter is going to find out.

Bought a Zontes 310t last year it has been excellent absolutely no problems in 8000kms. Good value at €4500 and the quality so far is good but I live in the driest part of Spain. Looking forward to what they do next. Riding motorcycles 46 yrs and this is the best value so far.

    1) This is the Zontes 310X1 , not X310 . X310 was the first gen, 310X1 is the second gen.
    2) There are 4 types of Zontes. The 1st gens was R310 (naked street), the X310 (sport touring) the T310 (adventure) and V310 (cruiser).
3)Those were the 1st gens. Now there are available the new ones (at least in Greece) the 310R1, 310T1. 310X1 is expecting for this month to come out. V310 remains the same.
4)There is one more edition for the Adventure which is the 310T2 not available yet here in Greece.
5)The engine is the same in all editions, with different upgrades in other parts of the motorbike.
    6)The prices fore the originals was: R310 (3.695€), X310 (3.995€), T310 (4.085€), V310 (4.195€), and the new ones 310R1 (3.995€), 310T1 (4.495€). The price for 310X1 hasn't anounced yet.
NOTE. All Zontes was vanished from the market here in 2 weeks. Especialy the T310 in 6 months is in the TOP 3 from the second week and it's still there (in overall not in a specific category).

Guys, own one with previous revision. With no single arm, but in the color tft. Options, build, comfort is very good. But unfortunately, is too little power. You will realize that after first 500km on it.. even if it your first motorcycle. It definitely lack additional 8-12hp. So if you can accept that power as your limit it’s a great choice, but I will suggest something which he’s at least 50+hp to keep it for season or two.

Returning to motorcycling after a long break, I had the attitude of 'I'm gonna drop it' so don't want to spend a lot of money. I bought the Zontes X-300 and it is GREAT! Build quality is good, lots of gadgets and technology and I'm getting around 90 mpg (3.0l/100km), without trying. You get the nice single cylinder hum, but it's smooth, without any vibrations coming through the foot pegs or handle bars. The torque allows quick overtakes and 'lazy' riding. I tried the BMW R310 and it was awful, and the dealer was um.... Also awful...
Going back to when I started biking, only British bikes were (supposedly) any good, when the Japanese came along... The Chinese are now where they were back in the 70's except, the Zontes could pass for a Honda already...

Whatever happened to this brand? The two videos on the brand were very positive, and the bikes themselves were very compelling, well equipped and seemed to be of surprisingly good quality (for a Chinese bike). I was looking at getting a T310 but struggled to find a dealership in Gauteng - some of the authorised dealerships looked a little dodgy - and there was no stock during the pandemic, which was worrying when thinking about servicing and spare parts. Zontes has since updated their lineup to include 350cc versions, and they look amazing, but will we ever see them here in SA? It would be nice if you could do a follow-up on the brand. I eventually gave up trying to buy one, and bought a Kawasaki Versys 650 instead.

Some are saying the KTM is a competitor but in U.K. KTM is £5,499 but the Zontes 10 is £3,999 There is nothing to touch this bike price wise or style wise.
If it has any long life in it, is another story and remains to be seen . I personally am preferring a Royal Enfield Himalayan as I think it will be stronger in a fall on rough ground and won’t be as damaged as the Zontes as there is a lot less plastic on the Zontes. And repairs can be done by basic mechanic from Uzbekistan
As there is less totally unneeded electrical gizmos on the Himalayan. I would change the battery though for a lithium with a sleep mode and wake up button as it will automatically go into sleep mode if its not getting any charge, but is getting discharged.
