    I was in Paris for the first time, more or less at the same time as this video, and I walked this same route but in reverse (no Brompton for me there).

    Bonjour, Marc, merci pour le vidéo ! I love biking around Paris when I visit. The Vélib' bikes are pretty good. One of the hôtels I stay at has a couple of very nice ebikes for the guests so I take those when I stay there. You rode by it at 2:15 I wish I could commute by bike here in Los Angeles.

    I wish I had owned a Brompton in the 1980s when my Dad lived in Paris and when I was living in London. I used to take the overnight bus and it would have been SO much easier if I had owned a Brompton to get around (I didn't get my first one until about 1998 or 1999). I haven't been back to Paris for many years. I miss it.

    • @marcl9532
      @marcl9532  Před 2 lety

      Yes indeed, no trees here, but fortunately some other streets are greener ! :)

    • @EKsUrbanTracks
      @EKsUrbanTracks Před rokem +4

      If I may! Some streets don't have trees for two main reasons, what's below (métro line 1 runs exactly below rue de Rivoli, close to the surface in some areas, planting trees in the ground would become an issue very fast! These tunnels were dug over 100 years ago and have infiltration issues everywhere), and some historic perspectives cannot be changed for 'aesthetic reasons', like avenue de l'Opéra. This means that at the top of the afternoon during summer, it's almost unbearable to walk from end to end. Luckily, the western part of rue de Rivoli has arcades where pedestrians can get fresher air. But then it's always packed, so... This street was absolutely not designed with climate change in mind :D
      I'd love planters though!
      Sorry for the irruption!

      @michaelh.gerloff3659 Před rokem +1

      @@EKsUrbanTracks Thank you for your explenation. I thought so about the 'aesthetic reasons'. Thinking about Georges-Eugène Haussmann, it could be possible to think about new climate design 😃

    I see that the 6 speed is a bit complicated with the two shifters, do you think that the 3 gear option is better? I also know that one of the shifters should be shifted while peddling while the other should be shifted while NOT pedalling…

    • @marcl9532
      @marcl9532  Před 2 lety +2

      The 3 speed is indeed more simple, as there is only one shifter. But it makes the bike less versatile (for longer journeys, or flat roads). And you get quickly used to the 6 speed, shifting becomes natural after a short period of time. Also, you should indeed not pedaling when shifting the hub gears, but I think it's the same with the 3 speed version.

    I suppose the congestion in certain areas is just something you have to get used to , and people using phones and not keeping to the designated lanes is also just the way people think , or not , as the case maybe , just the modern way ! . At least it seems as if the French are trying to help cyclists. Unlike here in the uk , where very little , or indeed no thought at all for the cyclists, from council’s or planner’s etc .
