Eddie you're right France also colonised African countries. France had 20 colonies Britain 22! Of course a few of those were "inherited" from Germany due to WWI e.g Uganda. Everyone likes to bash the UK because we had an Empire while totally ignoring the Empires & colonisation by Spain Portugal & France.

How can we not be great ?. Throughout the whole of history no other empire apart from Great Britain ever used it's power & might , even though detrimental to it's wealth, in the moral crusade to end slavery across this globe and bring into law any man woman or child who stands on British soil is automatically a free human being. I would call that being " Great " in anyone's books.

What about inventing the train system (at the time) and modern (at the time) factories, no. What about medicine, no, what about showing the world how to run something bigger than a sweet counter, no? Well, there were a few mistakes such as taking on WWI. WWII (we won, but had to give everything away to pay the rent) and giving women the right to vote and complain to their husbands about PMT (which we fixed by giving them pills and little feminine products). I thought it was because France tried to do a British theme, but we had to show them how to do it properly! So we had to call it Great Britain to lessen the confusion with Brittany, Little Britain or shitty Fench Britain. Okay, that seemed to work :)

Its called Great Britain because England & Wales is Britain after the Act of the Union in 1707 between Scotland and England so It became Great Britain so Scotland put the Great in Britain

Plus, it's a good job you weren't around during James Vi time as he called himself 'King of Great Britain and Ireland' in 1607, well before the 1707 Act of Unions that referred to the 'Kingdom of Great Britain.'
There was also Brittany, where a lot of British people went after the Romans left to escape the Saxons. So the rest of Britain called itself Great Britain as it was a much bigger island.
