#27 Is a trick question.Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun, which means it spends less time on the opposite side of the sun.Over many years time Mercury is the closest to all the planets.Venus gets closest to the earth on its orbit around the Sun.
Was wondering about that. Venus is the one we always see easiest. Mercury,I think,is so close to the sun it's really hard to see with the naked eye. Anyway...

I have debated long and hard over the last 10 weeks whether I should comment about this, but you have turned the butchery of pronunciations into an art form. This is not a personal attack but hopefully a constructive criticism that you may wish to address. In this particular quiz, you should consider Machu Picchu and Nikita Khrushchev as examples which need to be addressed. Keep up the great work and don’t be disheartened with my comments. Stay well.

I am sure Adrian that you and I would pronounce those names differently. A Russian may well pronounce Khrushchev that way but a Yorkshireman might not. I think Detormentis does a brilliant job of pronunciation under often difficult circumstances. 👍
I love his pronunciations of words. Always fun to guess what he'll say. More exciting that way.
"Danger" means in German "Gefahr", German "Drohung" means in English "threat" or "menace"

I like your quizzes but I have to question your question about the sea otters. I used to live in Virginia which is on the Atlantic Ocean and I would sea otters on the rocks
I looked it up. You are possibly referring to the North American river otter, inhabiting inland waterways and coastal areas in Canada, the Pacific Northwest, the Atlantic states, and the Gulf of Mexico. Was there a river mouth nearby?

Actually Sean there is a subspecies of sea otter that is native to the Caribbean Sea and along the Atlantic coasts of Central and North America. Latin name is, Enhydra lutris atlanticus. I investigated this because I have seen them swimming and feeding near my seaside home in Newfoundland, Canada.
I got 8 wrong. I think the name of the Indian stove is a tandoor.

Quit on question 1. The Hippo is actually an omnivore, although most people think it is a herbivore, (including the person who put together these questions) It is actually a brutal omnivore that eats everything.
Apologies. I took this from Nature.com which describes the hippo as a megaherbivore.
Mercury is not the closest planet to earth.
This is a trick question. The question wasn’t which planet’s orbit is the closest to earth’s orbit, but rather “on average” which planet is actually the closest to earth. So you have to calculate the distance between earth and the other planet at any given moment and then take the average of these distances. When Mars is on the far side of the sun (180 degrees away from earth, then the distance between Earth and Mars is quite large. The same goes for Venus. But Mercury’s orbital radius is very small; so when it is on the far side of the sun it isn’t a lot farther than when it is on the near side of the sun.
