Unbelievable: Locomotive Graveyard!

  • Sometimes you stumble over things that are too good to be true:
    Like this "locomotive graveyard" in Germany.
    A private collector has stored almost 100 steam locomotives, cars and parts in a former rail depot (including roundhouse) in

    Very enjoyable and lovely to see, often museums are too clean but with this one you can stumble upon something very interesting in the bushes.

    I wonder how he acquires all this stuff, transports them, etc.? Unless he's fabulously wealthy, there's not much hope these locomotives can be salvaged. His heart is in the right place, but I don't think this collection will move beyond where it is right now. Very interesting the stuff some people are into!

    British preservationists would give their eye teeth to get hold of some of these locomotives. What a huge pity that some are being left to rust in the undergrowth. Most will not be beyond restoration, you just have to look at the miracle jobs done on some of our locomotives that were deemed to be of scrap value only. I have worked as a volunteer rebuilding the hopeless cases and some have main line running certificates for steam specials.

    What a marvellous chance to put a really great museum together. The Diesels look in good order but the steamers will take longer to sort out even if they are just for exhibition and not in steam. Don't forget the Barry wrecks, some were just shells but lots of them now grace our main lines and heritage lines

    Glad he had the foresight to save them.i would have to get one up to steam and use it from time to time...there is still a place for steam if simply because it make you feel good.every railroad should have a steam locomotive to pull a freight train from time to time just for fun .even if they have to wright it off on taxes as advertisement .it inspires greatness and history...😃

    Why does the German government not restore those beautiful old steam trains, and pot them back into service?
    Let those old train rise and travel the glory and pride, that they deserve?
    Don't like it when some trains get left to rot. It's good that we have some people that care for these old trains. Love trains, long live them!

  • @MrRailroadrunner
    @MrRailroadrunner Před 10 lety +2

    I see a lot of comments that are negative here. But also view it this way. Around 5:00 he has a round house, which is where the best locos are probably kept. Also this kind of thing takes time for a museum. I hope to hear success, but I would be expecting to wait a while longer. Also, keep in mind some of the so called "Wrecks" that came out of Barry Scrap yard. Those run, and the ones that don't run are still a parts source for the ones that do.

      These loco types and in some cases their ancestors would have been used for Jew extermination.
      They should be broken into small pieces with shears and cutting torches, and recycled in the furnaces as scrap.
