Had every engine the E series ever had. The “truck 6 “ 300 ci shit all over the 4.6 as did the 351 W (with cross flow injection) and definitely the 460 ci. The 4.6 totally underpowered and got worse mpg than most of the larger engines. 5.4 triton was ok as long as you could keep the spark plugs in the heads !! Same as the V 10. ( just a 5.4 with 2xtra cylinders slapped on ). 4.6 in my explorer and clown car - great. In the e250 sucked

Yes! I think you are the only place where we van enthusiast can learn the optional overland builds available for the newer Transit.
Especially, the difference in mpg between stock and lifted larger wheels. Of course it will also depend upon the Transit engine size. Hopefully, you will show the 3.7 because that is the most common. Also, standard vs 4x4.

I bought a Ford 2021 E350 cutaway van with a 14'5 box and a 7.3 gas motor. I took it to 5star tuning and had them tune it to above the F350 tune.
The box has a 84" interior height and 79" interior width.
I have converted it into an RV.
I bought it to tow a modified Jeep around the USA, Canada and Mexico on a trailer.
With the tune on the 7.3 I am getting 12.8 mpg. The tow rating is 12,000 lbs with a 4.56 gears and the 6 speed auto.

Paramedics frequently work part time jobs. Mine was for a company that only picked up patients at all those free-standing ER's that popped up everywhere. Good business model for an ambulance service, very profitable. We got the first Transits that were made into ambulances. I had just retired from a municipal EMS that used F-F450's with HUGE boxes mounted on them, an Iowa class battlewagon. So I went from having all the room in the world with all the storage space for all the cool paramedic toys in the universe to a narrow shoebox. Its ok for non-emergency local transports (the bulk of the business in the freestanding ER to hospital niche) . It was uncomfortable on longer trips. They had frequent electrical and cooling system problems. The Ram Pro Master ambulance conversions have made big inroads into the market. They have a lower load height for one. I started EMS in the 80's for a private company that used E-350's with a high fiberglass top attached. They were rugged, strong, fast and maneuverable. Not many of those are being made now. (Because the Transits and Pro Master have higher roof options from the factory) Most E350 chassis ambulances are just the van cab and a box mounted on the frame. We swapped from gas to diesel in the early 90's. More torque, held up better. There's a move back to gas going on. Diesel is much more expensive now.

Jeremy Johnson has enlightened me regarding the history of the E-Series and Transit, and I thank him. That said, I think at last count, I have had fourteen E-Series vans from 1974 through the last, and current E-150 of 2013. Worked at Ford Body Engineering for 26 years, and had a pretty current model most of the time. 240cid's through 460's. Tricked many of them out with interiors and drive trains. Used them for camping, hauling race sailing catamarans, tournament ski boats, dirt bikes, scuba diving, hauling windsurf, hang gliding, mountain and road biking equipment, electrical, plumbing, framing, welding, trades, aviation related maintenance, towing agricultural equipment, sailplanes, kiteboarding, snow kite skiing, wind foiling, etc. My new 2022 Tranny is said to be in transit from production to the dealer as we speak. Guess I'm gonna find out pretty quick how the low-roof shrew compares to those bad-ass buggies of the past. Thanks again for the creative reflections on the models, Jeremy.

Tows our 2019 Airstream Flying Cloud 25' trailer like a champ. 8600 LBS Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. Rated to tow 7000 LBS. All in great comfortable leather interior. The Transit Wagon (van with full factory interior) sucks as a tow vehicle. No frame, rated to tow less than 5000 LBS, tiny brakes compared to the E Series. The old school E Series vans are tough as nails. Ask any commercial user. Takes a beating and asks for more. Parts are available everywhere and they are easy to work on. Enough said.

    2000 E150 with the little 4.2L V6
The only thing I dislike on my E450 is the lack of a parking brake for the Dana-80. The driveline brake doesn't work all that great.
I'll never own a Transit. The drivers door is the main reason why I won't give it a chance. I want a full window opening like the E-Series or at least a large window opening and a functional vent window like all the 3rd gen Econoline vans I've owned.

I’ve got a 2013 E150/E250. I do expedite shipping and run it like a dog. It is about to turn over 300,000 miles and runs great. The body and frame are in excellent shape and if the motor ever blows I’m just going to rebuild it. The payload and towing capacities are very similar between the E Series and the Transit but I’ve gone over the max payload in mine on a few occasions by quite a bit and it didn’t act any different. I’ve seen Transits buried with a ton in the back. Inmy opinion the E Series is much easier to do engine work on with the dog house in the cab. I’ve gone through 10 inches of snow with good tires no problem in it. The Transit is a great work vehicle as well but I’d probably opt for another E Series before I got a Transit.

I have driven E series van with 7.3 diesel for years. It was very reliable and rugged. It was easy to get in and out of the drivers seat. Im now driving the Transit van 3.5 ecoboost, used as a replacement. .I prefer the old E series. The E is more rugged and it rides better due to larger tires, easier to get in and out of and feels substantial if you were to get in a accident. The Transit van feels flimsyer, its harder to get in and out due to narrower doors, and the visibility is slightly less out the sides. It rides different with smaller wheels and tires. Driving position is more bus like. The Transit can really move with the twin turbo 3.5 but gas mileage will suffer if you drive it hard. Interior plastic such as steering wheel degrade easily in the UV of sunlight. Plastic in dash doesnt look like it will hold up well compared to the E. I do enjoy driving the Transit but the E is tuff. I think the E with the 7.3 diesel is my favorite.

Ripped out all the seats, the manky carpet, etc. Interior is almost ready to go road trip/camping. The amount of torque/power is ridiculous, as far as the headroom goes, you live out of it, not in it. The gas mileage fairly light and empty is ok, I just cant drive it 85.
