This was my intro to your channel, and I really appreciated the presentation. Too many YTs take the clickbait approach or just repeat everything that everyone else is posting. I’ve been on PT since 2005 and love it-but haven’t upgraded in a while due to an older computer. Now that I’m moving to a new Mac Studio, I can’t wait to explore the new PT. Thanks for this great overview!
Love hearing how helpful this was, Robert! Check out our website for more tutorials, and let us know what topic you would like us to cover next:

Wow, you don’t see that shirt often! My Artisan Mobile had the Criteria symbol on its side from 1977 for a couple years as I provided Criteria’s customers with live recording service, so that image is stuck in my mind forever. Your shirt is wonderfully preserved.
I love Criteria TOO!!
...my favourite update..custom key commands..finally!!!
One word, Reaper.
I have a perpetual licence. It is still within the 12 month upgrade period for new additions. The support for my version expires in August. I’m actually holding back with downloading 2022.4 as I suspected it will defacto kick my purchase off the perpetual licence purchased and onto the subscription. Not sure if, given my perpetual version should have full access to version updates to August how to handle the new update.
My support ends in August to for my perpetual license, and you're good...You can actually upgrade to pro tools Studio and still have your perpetual license. I did it a couple days ago.
@@rowlexxflowz7825 so you can use it after the support ends? It won’t force you to move to the new license? Do you have an authoritative source that I can access to know it’s an official Avid thing for perpetual license owners.
@@stevegeorge7773 yes but if the support ends and you don't buy another support subscription before the current one ends, you won't be able to buy another update/support subscription. It will tell you to trade your perpetual license for a discounted subscription Wich is absolute bullsh*t
@@rowlexxflowz7825 right..... 😡. But with the perpetual you wouldn’t get updates after the license support term was up anyway. What I am concerned about is if one with a perpetual will not be able to continue using what they have, what ever version updated to, after the support expires with their license. It’s why Im not downloading 2022.4 until I know from a first hand official source the upgrade will not change what I purchased.
That said I have an ultimate version too. But there was never an intention to renew that license after it expires in a November.
Once your Perpetual License Software Updates + Support Plan ends, you will be able to keep the last version of PT available to you before your Support Plan ended.
EXAMPLE:
If your Support Plan ends in August and you dont renew it and the last update before August is 2022.6, you'll be able to keep and use any PT version up to 2022.6.
If in the future you would like to get the than current version of PT (let's say in May of 2024 version 2024.3) you'll need to buy a Reinstatement Plan which will get you current and 1 year of Software Updates + Support from the date of the Reinstatement Plan activation.
If you need any more information you should head over to Avid DUC users forum. Sign up and post a thread there. The Moderators, Users, and actual Avid Personnel would be glad to answer your question.
BACK TO STEINBURG
Track numbers tell only part of the story. Avid has chosen to obscure the essential fact that Pro Tools Flex is required to sync to timecode or video, a major point.
2 years ago I paid $1300 and last year I paid $400 now I have to pay another $1000 to use it for 1 year? Nope, that ain't happening.
Grovecell and Synthcell.. It's like the free vst's from last decade. I can't understand why they include plugins that are so outdated.
they aren't free at all though, even with a perpetual licence if you don't pay for a support plan you'll still lose them, Im not really super impressed by them though.
@@nicolasstrawberry4148 Not impressed at all. Like I said, they look like freeware from 10+ years ago. That goes for much of the plugin suite that comes with PT. It's so dated.
@@Dougie- I opened them maybe 2 times, three at most, never used them in a projects because I already have 3rd party synths plugins that blow the synth out of the water and I use the Mpc for drum samples as a plugin and as hardware, I’m just wondering how having subscription only is going is going to pan out for Avid though.
@@nicolasstrawberry4148 Same here. Have noe interest in them as there are much better alternatives. Often use hardware for drums as well, SP-16. I agree, It will be interesting to see if they will need to start selling perpetual licences again. The reactions haven't been exactly positive. Have to admit though that the Artist subscription works fine for me. That made me pick up PT again. Won't go to the next tier.
Protools is still looking very old compared to Cubase, Logic and Presonus Studio One. Only loyal users still use this soft.
... which is 90% of recording studios
@@Texturas75 And still with the same old bugs.
Groove Cell is badly flawed for the moment. Pads in the grid window don’t inherit their instrument names, instead presenting merely a useless list of pad numbers.
