- It's always a good practice to check the oil in the front forks. Even better is changing it completely. It's a slightly modified 1999 Honda Transalp XL600V.

Excellent step by step video. Thanks so much for making it. You're a champ.
Amazing video, and much better than removing forks and doing it the hard way. Thank you for posting this for everyone to see.
Thanks for watching!
@@DonnDIY Why I need to lift the front wheel? Also can I just drain old and put new oil without touching anything else?
The best vid for changing your oil without removing your forks...Good job👍
Thanks for the very educational video, you made it look very simple.
Great video, explained it better than Honda service manual did!
Very good job. Thanks very clean and brief but complete.
postupno je decko objasnio .Excellent step by step video
Thanks for this great video. I have to do the same on my pd10 Transalp. Great job. 👍💪
Great vids dude, i have learn a lot from you ! What you think, i have Suzuki DR 650 rs and i´d like to cut off and grind to smooth those front mudguard attachments ? Is there any chance a telescope oils comes out ? I dont have a stock mudguard, i have chanced the Polisport bigger motocross style mudguard and i must say those attacments look stupid because there is nothing on them.
Sorry my english i´m Finnish :)
great video. going to install intiminators on my TA600 PD10 soon. this is certainly handy. thanks a lot.
I'm glad you found it useful. Thanks for watching!
Thank You, great explanation.
No worries! You're welcome!
Good job mate.
Thanks for the video, great . i put out the complete fork so i could also renew the dustcovers
Awesome. Covers on mine were in great condition so I didn't have to remove them. Thanks for watching!
great video
This is the best method I saw. Tanks, man!
Thanks, inspired to do mine. By the way, your vid about changing clutch and primary chain is no longer there?
Very good video! How much oil I should put in the each fork?
Very good video
Congratulations, perfectly explained...
Do you have anymore for same bike?
Regards
Excellent what was the length of measure on the Allen key for oil in mum, thanks looks a better way to change oil
Hi! What if I pour white petrol in it while mounted? Does it help to clean it better before refilling with oil? Great video!!
Clearly and simply explained. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Great help, thanks👍🏻
Bon travail mon amie
Thank you mate
Suomi ? Thanks buddy .... didn't fancy taking the forks off completely :)
Nice work ^_^
Very very helpfull !!! Thanks a lot.
Thanks for your video very interesting an clear, good work.
A question for you, ¿do you notice a clear improvement in the bike dynamics?. For example whith your front brake blocked, if you push strongly against ground, ¿does it a "doing, doing" movement up and down two or three times, or recuperates cleanly?. It's what happens with my XL650V but I don't know if changing forks oil is enough or I must add some preload adjustable caps, or may be replacing the springs. Perhaps all together. ¿Do you have an idea, or a friend of you?. Thank you very much.
that sounds like a lack of damping, maybe your forks need a rebuild? if the rubber orings are done then i don't imagine they're doing much. when car shocks do that it's time for a replacement.. That's the thing with the oils, if you don't replace them the rubber goes bad so you have to replace them ontime or extra rebuilds. lots of people neglect fork oil from what I read online.
Thx .. Great vlog ✊️
super video! danke dir sehr!
Thanks a bundle. Большое спасибо за видео.
No worries! Большое спасибо за просмотр видео! ;)
good job! thank you...
Que largo tiene la llave alen en milímetros para medir si quedó a nivel el aceite . Gracias
hello thanks, unscrew below is there no danger of losing the pump bushing? then not be able to screw anymore? Thank you
Thanks, nice DIY :)
Cheers. I'm glad to help!
Nice video but doesn’t manual recommend ATF?
THX for this video.
Thanks for watching! ;)
Helpful video
I'm glad you think so. ;)
Hello what about neutral green light some times I loose the neutral position .
The switch is ok I want to know how fixed from inside?
There is any video about it?
Спасибо!!
It's the same for honda nx 650 dominator 1999? I think so because the forks are pretty much the same, but I would like to hear your opinion.
Thank you for the video
Super.Wielke dzięki.Pozdrawiam.
Bravo sei molto chiaro e preciso io ho fatto il cambio delľolio come ai fatto tu grazie
Incredibile. Forks for bicycle. Now i understand The Low power that Have these bikes.
Brilliant, I wonder if the forks are the same on the transalp 650
Trying tomorrow ... stay tuned ;)
Hello , what tires do you run ?
Hi! I also have a XL600V. Did you notice much difference in suspension behavior after oil change? Does it perform better soaking up holes or bumps? Thank you
It does but maybe the difference is in my head and I'm only imagining it.
If anyone wants to learn about Jesus Christ reply
Thanks for the video, it's not necessary take apart the forks , for the oil change? In the majority of the videos it's the rule
Not for these simple forks. You have to take apart racing suspension like WP on KTMs and such.
service manual recommends 5W ?
I'll do this tomorrow this video is really good. clever clever. but why do you have 2xbrakedisks and a PD06A lamp mask ?
Cool, I'm glad you like it. The front end was custom built by the previous owner. Two front brake disc version was sold in Europe only I believe. It is 1999 Honda Transalp XL600V.
@@DonnDIY Yes its from 1997 and on on. I have tried it, but it does not work. You have to lock the bolt from inside the fork, to get it out. :(
Great vid but what is the purpose of loosening the 4 12mm clamp bolts?
My guess would be to relieve pressure off the tube so you can get the nut off easier.
Thanks
friend to see if I understood correctly, 550cc fork oil and 125mm from the upper edge? What if I use sae15w, I always use it on the highway and I weigh more than 100kg. Thank you very much and best regards
Try it or try heavier springs. If your there might as well. Change only one at a time
How many grams did you pour into each pen?
I did that on a piper 140, but had the gear down all the way, filled to the top with oil, and while under the wing pushed the gear up, twice, LOL. shot up 2 1/2 stories to the hangers roof, LOL. We didn't know what was going on sitting under the wing, which explains the second time.
prancstaman That definitely creates a lot of mess. Was it difficult to clean up? :D
Donn DIY YES!!! LOL.
Did ya get that internal chain you needed for the oil pump yet.
Ordered it but still waiting for it. That's why there's no exhaust and engine guard on the motorcycle yet. I've ordered a bunch of stuff I need to install but all of that in the future videos. ;)
good job man...;-p
;)
Hi
When I start the engine of my transalp I have to keep the throttle turned for a moment or she turn of either in Sommer.
only on cold start after the engine is hot it's ok.
Witch parts in carburettor I have to check?
Spark plug if engine turns off or stalls
Exelent
Can the fork oil be changed this way on normal Cruisers? Or is this way unique to adventure bikes?
I guess there's no other difference than the oil level itself (in this video measured from the top with fully compressed forks). The principle of changing the oil can be used on other regular forks too I guess.
I will have to do this and change the cooling liquid to in radiator and change the rubber thing on front fork , both . Mine is 95 y production with one front disc .
I've been on the road now for a couple of days with the bike and it's a warm fuzzy feeling when you know all the liquids are changed and everything is taken care of. :D
I would with moderate to heavy use change the fork oil every time I do the valve adjustment or the second small service (every 12k-18k).
Sounds about right! 👍
@@DonnDIY Yeah buddy, love my 650. She's built for the abuse.
Hello i have one question whats name of the fork oil then you using in the video?
Motorex.
And Donn is it an improvement?
Muy bien
What tire is this?
does you know if its the same as transalp 650 ?
Can't say. I don't know. :/
I tried to do it but the screws that are under forks are moving with inside part of forks. So i guess i will give it to the workshoo :(
cab I ask when/why should you change fork oil?
There's an fork oil change interval you can look up in the manual.👍
nice video! easy peasy cheasy squeezy :D
People actually think that is necessary to take off forks for oilchanges, and this is lazy half assing.
However there is plenty of factory service manuals of older bikes especially consumer bikes like Suzuki katana for example. They show in the manual exactly the way he showed it here.
Unbolt the screws and caps, drain, rescrew ,replace oil, pump to fill cavities, retighten. Done.
Its common for cheaper more rugged and less performance oriented bikes to have easier and cheaper maintenance.
Altho deep cleaning reaps its own benefits it requires more tools and skill, also time. Where this way you would actually be more keen on doing the job sooner and more consistently which can only result in smoother ride experience overall.
Hello man... I'm from argentina, I have a 1996 transalp, my question is the cuantity 550 or 515 cm3 in each barral?
549 cc, measured 125 mm.
Thanks man... Great video....
How about the samller cc?
For example, 150cc?
first. good project
I have noticed a strange noice in the fork after oil change. I guess it is relevant with some staff inside the fork which was disconnected when I screwed out the left bottom bolt
looks like I did not compass the fork enough and right bottom bolt was not screwed into the fork piston
So you got it all figured out? No noise anymore? If the bolt is not tightened properly it will leak the fork oil also.
Donn DIY no i did not. Perhaps i will do some rework on that fork
Maybe this parts diagram helps to figure it out: www.cmsnl.com/honda-xl600v-transalp-1994-r-spain_model6582/partslist/F__0800.html
Strangely I didn't have any problems with the forks. I hope you get it all buttoned up!
Changing the fork seals on a yamaha wr125x was not a fun thing to do..
Ile trzeba wlać oleju?
550ml na stronę.
Engine oil works just as well, Castrol Magnatec 10W-40
No, 10w motoroil has way higher viscosity than 10w fork oil.
10w is a viscosity range, it's different for fork oil, engine oil, transmission oil. 10w fork oil is closer to 0w20 engine oil.
I weep for your bike
@@Tomyp89 higher viscosity means it won't bounce about on curves, more stability.

А 700 тоже так можно?
Just put hyper pro springs and 20 w oil in mine
Why you didn't compressed the forks up till screw the top fill cap, due to dispose of the air within them 🤔🤔
Please tell us you're joking, right?? XD
If you're not; try to visualise how the springs sit inside the forks and then ask that question again...
Toboggan
joking😂😂 you're fantastic
Do you know the main role of the springs?
The function of the springs return the shock absorber ( damper) to the top position and make a flexible motion, especially in bumpy and an unpaved roads
So how are them motives in the air pressure plus oil
There is air in last 25 mm that you already mentioned, so you should dispose it to prevent makes pressure on an oil seal.
Do you understand the script? 🤔
Lleva 549 cl. De aceite
How deeply measured? because I am deaf and do not hear what you are talking about.
125 mm. ;)
best way to is to measure exactly what comes out and put the same amount back
Nope. The best way is to read the maintenance manual developed by the engineers of the bike and act accordingly.
sure, but A) some people dont have it. B) if you dont take the forks out and wash them and drain them there ll always be some left behind so the amount stated on the manual can fit.
@@Gio-en5kv Once again - the same amount will be in there even if you don't wash the forks - you measure it from the top anyway so all of the old oil left behind will flow to the bottom and will be among the measured volume. But the correct way always includes washing the forks and then pouring the new oil in according to the specs, otherwise you'll contaminate the new oil with the debris and grit left behind in the old oil. Service manuals are available online, too. If you want your bike to be in perfect order owning a proper service manual is definitely recommended.
Can't hear you
Volume button usually helps to fix that problem. It sounded okay when I listened to it on my computer. Are you using your phone?
Donn DIY yes, it is lower in volume than most other vids!

Honestly its not much more work to just pull the fork tubes out and let them drain overnight upside down. Schedule it with a front tire replacement. Easy Peasy.
hello thanks, unscrew below is there no danger of losing the pump bushing? then not be able to screw anymore? Thank you
