The problem is maybe not the big act "Cut the balls",
but you make small changes and all of a sudden, balls are no longer there.
Those in power look down and say "Oh, where are my balls?"
and suddenly their voices get higher and so on and so on and so on.
I stand by my joke. The structure of the joke is that this so-called progressive intellectual,
in order to score his small narcissistic point, oh, I dusted the balls,
totally ignores the suffering there and that's the whole point of the joke.

***** As a Marxist, I like reading Zizek and I find him thought provoking (even and sometimes especially when I don't agree with him), but he is definitely not simply putting Marxist theory into an understandable form (I don't think it's that difficult to begin with, it just takes some time and effort), as his writings often run counter to key Marxist theorems. He just doesn't get political economy, e.g. some of the stuff he said about Marx in "Living in the End Times" is simply nonsense. But, hey, it made me pick up Capital again just to contradict him. Most of his theory is based on Hegel and Lacan, and, esp. in his earlier writings, Laclau. A lot of his writings is about applying Lacan to political theory. Actually, I think where his ability to render complex theories comprehensible really shines is when he's explaining Hegel and Lacan.
***** You realize his "defense" of Stalin is just ironic? If you watch a documentary about Zizek (I forgot which one, but you can watch the interview between Slavoj Zizek, Julian Assange and David Horowitz), he says there that he has a picture of Stalin at home, precisely to remind him of the danger of taking power. The danger of becoming somebody like Stalin whom he detests. I don't know what he thinks about Mao, I know his friend Badiou likes Mao (though I think the Mao and the Maoism popular in France is an imaginary Mao, but no matter…), and I know he quotes him then and when. But I also know he thinks Mao is not a philosopher, but merely somebody who has peasant's cunning ("Bauernschläue"), and he thinks both the Stalinite model of "doing socialism with the state" and the Maoist model of "doing it without the state" failed. If you like Stalin, you have every reason to detest Zizek.
