      Oh yes, looks fascinating! I loved the live album he cut with Fela Kuti and his band around this time - Baker was instrumental in getting Fela a distribution deal in the UK and Europe - and I knew about his pioneering interest in African drumming and Afro rock music. This is going to be so much fun to watch!

    I read a biography about good old Peter Baker and was since then convinced that the time he spent in Nigeria was the best time in his life.
    But nevertheless, the music I love best by him are his two albums with Bill Frisell and Charlie Hayden and when you watch this very trio on youtube (highly recommended) you can tell by his shining face that he must have enjoyed it is much as Africa.

      the drum beats are similar to Middle Eastern drum beats . hell it's Arab drumming . see the Camels see the Islamic architecture . these beats are cyclical and more in 2/4 time signatures than 4/4 march type beats like European music . the Africans / Arab style of warfare is different than the regimental warfare of mid-evil Europe . where this is war there is drums 🐫🐪

    • @kevinkiso4579
      @kevinkiso4579 Před 11 měsíci

      @RonaldWilliams-qh7zc I do not understand why this feels necessary to some people. The internet is such a nano... I think we all experience a multitude of feelings and emotions within each day (duh); and I believe that a person can be viewing something and be at a certain fractional period of time in their day - and how they feel at that moment of writing a comment shadows the comment almost wholly. If that person upstairs here in this comment section were feeling blessed, superfluous, happy to the point of gushing; his comment would have been something like; "Oh, the joyous freedom of the desert air in Ginger's hair is so effervescent! I yearn for those times of free love and harmony." But, something has him all fu*k*d off this particular morning. 🤔 Just a thought.

      We should keep in mind, when overly romantizicing things, Ginger was looking for a tax shelter. He didn't pay his taxes and had to sell the ranch. Also, I'm part Native American, but this has nothing at all to do with that. I have my American culture which is plenty enough to compel me.

    And with a rare passion, he went to the source... good on him. I remember a story where Paul McCartney went to visit Fela Kuti in Nigeria, and it is said that the Nigerian's promptly stole his luggage, and that Fela pulled a gun on him thinking he was here to steal his musicians... welcome to Nigeria, Sir Paul... but order was restored and they became quick friends... Also, I've read that even James Brown brought his players to listen to these guys, Fela, and Marshall Allen, to try to get that "feel"... that's pretty amazing.
