Melrose Avenue used to be one of the most popular streets in Los Angeles yesterday I went for a walk to see the changes that happened and I see lots of stores are closed out of business for lease. Looks like business is going down in Los Angeles. - Zábava
Until California prosecute criminals nobody would open a business .😂

I can't believe people pay > $2000+ for sneakers. Whether they got the money or not, they are a bunch of knuckleheads.
It's a collectors thing I think. Some of them go up in value like crazy and I'm not into sneakers either but many people are crazy about them. I feel like alot of people buy those shoes to display in their room or keep stowed away hoping to sell them for a profit.
Made in sweatshops for about 5 bucks.
I can't believe people pay 50$ for a phone.

Yeah imagine paying that much for shoes made in the same factory as the $20 ones. LOL. In China or somewhere in Asia.
It looks so dirty and run down. So sad what the politicians are doing to CA.

I am glad I'm not from the states..it's a pit.
It looks like Detroit with palm trees. It was awesome in the 1990s but you can't put the criminals in jail in Los Angeles anymore. Law & Order is still on the air, just not on our streets.
I left LA 5 years ago. I just couldn’t take it anymore…traffic, crime, cost of living and high taxes. I do love your videos from a distance :) Happy New Year, GIV!

Do people in LA understand why the businesses are leaving or do they just believe everything Gavin Newsome tells them?

They want to rent those stores for the amount they were worth years ago not at what they're worth now in the middle of a homeless encampment.
I left SoCal in 2015 and returned in 2019. I essentially became a dual resident between Cali and AZ, but now I'm in AZ for good. California is arguably one of the most beautiful states in the entire union, but unfortunately it's paradise lost.
I used to visit S.California regularly in the 80’s and 90’s. Even thought about establishing a business as I liked it so much. Wise decision not to, could never have imagined the place would come to this.

72 years California native and I gotta say when they have to lock up their trash bins, you know things are bad.
Thanks for bringing us along on your many journeys Mike and I hope you have a happy New Year's, 2024🎉😊
I'm on the westside and we have to lock our dumpsters or else neighbors overfill it, people wake us up in the middle of the night breaking bottles and spreading garbage all over, or other people will stop to use the area as a bathroom or a place to smoke crack while screaming to their inner demons.
Are you from LA? You're my dad's age and he was born and raised in East Los
In a town of 1k the trash cans are locked.
It's all over the country if trash removal isn't included in your property taxes. It's not included where I live and the majority of the tenants in the building I live in went over the river and through the woods to Grandma's house for Christmas and the dumpster was full before they came home. The landlord called to get an early pickup and this morning it was full again, he's not a happy camper. He's got dummy cameras and now he's ready to get real ones.

It makes me sad that LA and California are going downhill. I moved from SoCal a month ago and now live in Alabama.
it's all in your head, full of propaganda...LA and califorina are not going down... thousands of people from Texas are moving here....Google it
Rents are getting high in some, not all commerical areas like Melrose...they are closing, renovating and opening back up with new tenants just in time for the Spring tourists....dont belive everything you see and read...and get out of the Fox Den, too while your at it

German, no born-American could love LA in quite the way that you do. That's why we love you.
keep up the great work and thank you for exposing what is going on in our state of California !
Last time we were there about 10 years ago, there were dozens of closed stores on Melrose. The closer you got to Downtown, the worse it was. Entire blocks closed.
In the 1980s, Melrose was HOT from Beverly Center to Vermont.
Not any more.
We used to walk Melrose all the time in the 90's. It is abosolutely depressing to see it now. It was so vibrant back then, all the stores. Most stores did not survive the pandemic, the rest is due to the increase of crime in that area. Unheard of back then. When cops did their job. I'm from Panama, and California is getting to feel like a third world country. And the politicians are good at taking our tax dollars, but do nothing to improve what was the most desired state to reside in.
Agree. I remember being at Tommy Tang's in the 80s and seeing Robin Williams at the bar after Mork & Mindy was canceled. Back then, Melrose was 2 lanes with a tree lined Parkway on either side. It was cutting edge hip and beautiful.
Same here, Melrose was a street I used to hang out. Now I live far away, and have no reason to visit LA anymore. Used to stay in a motel/hotel just off Hollywood Blvd. Would walk many of the streets at night (still aware of what could happen). I'd look up where a film was being made and go there and watch. Kind of boring, as it takes a long time for the setup and lighting, and moving people out of the area. kind of cold at night, but you never knew who you might see.
I miss the Viper Room and Madam Wongs, haunts of my wild youth.
It’s not really that the cops aren’t doing their jobs, it’s that they’re understaffed ever since they got defunded. From what I’ve heard there’s like.. 1-2 hour response times in some areas.
Thanks Democrats. Poor leadership. Incompetent as usual.
If I was you I move back to Germany! America is falling apart ! It breaks my ❤, I’m a veteran 🇺🇸❤️
True I have seen so many stores go out of business in the last few years. But our leaders say everything is great.

You are an angel Michael. You make people feel better🕊️🥂🎉
I grew up in Oregon, born 75 years ago. The first time I saw California was in 1958. I couldn't believe how crowded it was. The population then was around 15 million. We went to Disneyland and across the street was a farmer's field growing vegetables. I moved to the Bay Area in 1965. By then the population was 18 million. What is it now? 45 million? You can't have that sort of growth so fast without creating a lot of problems. I remember what California beach towns were like in the '60s. I lived in Santa Cruz for a while. Normal people lived in beach towns. Now you have to be super rich. I fled San Francisco 30 years ago. I still love California but I think what has happened to some wonderful places is terrible. I predict that in 20 years California will revert to Mexico. The leftist politicians will make it happen. The president of Mexico owns a nice mansion at Lake Tahoe. He's ready for the transfer.
The Demographics are radically different from when you moved there. California as was much of America was mostly white middle class Christian. You get better civics and cooperation in that type of population.
The Mexicans and Iranians will fight for LA. The Shah Iranians flooded LA and made it look like Tehran.
I've been saying the same thing for decades, all of America will be Mexico in the decades to come. I saw the cesspool forming in 1980 when I had a job driving around the outskirts of L.A. and into the valley. We saved our money and my wife and I left beautiful California in 1985 and never looked back. We moved to Texas and started a family and have never been happier, best move we ever made. Our Father guided us in the right direction. AMEN!!!
😂 ECXACTLY
Not Mexico. More likely China which is worse.
43 years living in Los Angeles, left California 2 years ago. I want to cry seeing what it has become. But they voted for this.
Life in my new home is VASTLY better, cheaper, and the people are very friendly. Los Angeles is looking more and more like Cyberpunk 2077.
Sadly, even if LA returned to it's former glory, the move out was a one way ticket. There is no way I could afford it now. Still, my best young memories were made in LA. Fairfax and Melrose was one of the regular streets for me, going to school. I don't recognize it today.
I don't recognize much of LA today. But I really don't miss the traffic! Hey, I wonder if Pinks is still around? I got my best teenage acne from their chili dogs! And for those that know..... OKI DOG!!! 👍

Every time GIV posts a video of what L.A. has become, I am reminded of what a great decision I made when I left. L.A. and the rest of the state is a filthy, crowded, crime ridden, over taxed Hell hole full of criminals and crazy homeless people.
Even here in the Bay Area Silicon Valley, the crime has drastically increased. My sister in law works for Apple, and just the last few weeks it has been hit twice by those ring of thieves that run into a store, grab everything they can, and flee. 5 minutes from my house Santa Row is our expensive shopping area, also hit by the same people.

I moved to L.A. in the 1990s, after college. Melrose Ave was the place to eat and shop ❤ I bought sooo many of my favorite clothes there, including my first pair of Doc Martin boots, my first motorcycle jacket, and vintage 1950’s faux leopard coat. I’m bummed that so many of the places there are empty now! 😢
I bought my first doc's at Melrose too. And still have them. I don't wear as much, but are still in great shape. These shoes are over 25 years old.

My very 1st trip to LA was in 1983. My friend, who lived in Beverly Hills, took me to Melrose and my first purchase was a pair of shoes at LA Gear. Flasback time.
The whole western culture is going down.
Been working there for 10 years, now. I’ve seen the decline happen. It especially happened during the pandemic and especially during the recent riot when they burned some of the stores there.
The recent robberies in broad daylight had to have scared away potential shoppers, too.
It makes you wonder how the odd store with the fetish /ceremonial costumes stays open...lol

Hanging out on Melrose was the best in the 80's, where people went to see and be seen, so man punks, people with spikey hair and wild clothes (I was one of them), and then of course 'Melrose Place' tv show that came out in the early 90's at the height of Melrose popularity. I've driven down Melrose recently. Yes, there are closed down stores and such but its nowhere near as bad as San Franciso. I don't blame these stores for closing though since the rents along Melrose and other parts are just too high to make running a business not viable. I do remember when Melrose was the place to shop at back in the 80s and even 90s. As you mentioned, the hipsters all now visit Abbot Kinney, The Grov,e or even Larchmont Village.
LA is almost as bad as SF, and it won't stop because of the commies that control the govt there.
Very little progressive vibe/hipsters remain. The Grove although nice caters to non creative commercialism.
