    About Pan's Labyrinth:
In a dark time for a young girl, Spain and the entire world, the haunting fantasies within her mind merge into reality, giving birth to a land of fantastical creatures and secret destinies--Pan's Labyrinth . . . El laberinto del fauno. 1944. Rural Spain. As Franco consolidates his brutal hold after years of civil war, lonely and dreamy Ofelia must come to terms with the cruelty around her. Living with her mother and adoptive father--a military officer under the Fascist government who is tasked with ridding last rebels from their area, Ofelia creates a fable, giving life to a secret inner world to help her cope with a world gone wrong. From acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro (Cronos, Mimic) and produced by Alfonso Cuarón, director of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Y tu mamá también.

I watched this movie as a kid and as an adult and the imagination in this film blew my mind. The lullaby is still stuck in my head.

I'm on of those people who connects deeply with this movie. Not even sure exactly what it is, but it captures my imagination so much, and hits me so deeply emotionally. It's so tragic yet hopeful. My personal interpretation (probably for my own sanity) is that the magical realm is real, and that Ophelia had to die in the normal realm to enter the magical realm (as the Faun explains in the end). Del Toro is a brilliant filmmaker.

I've heard he wants to film a movie based on The Mountains of Madness. He has a particular hability to employ fantasy on his films.

As my grandfather grew up in the exact same part of Spain being exactly as old as Ofelia, this movie means everything to me. I was able to show him this movie shortly before his passing and it was beyond priceless to be granted a look into his past with him beside me. Apart from that personal fact this movie explodes of symbolism. Its combines so much of this worlds art into one big message. Its dares you to think deeper about the harsh reality of fascism and how important it is to hold on to the child in one self. To me, the most brilliant movie of all time. Guillermo, if you ever read this; i named my daughter Ofelia after your amazing art. I can never thank you enough.

I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE GONE TO THE AFI FILM FESTIVAL AT THE ARCHLIGHTS IN SUNSET BLVD AND WATCHED THIS AMAZING FILM IN 2006. AND TO HAVE SEEN AND SHAKEN THE HANDS OF THIS HUMBLE MEXICAN PAISANO. I WAS RUNNING LATE THAT DAY, BUT AS I WAS ENTERING THE SCREENING ROOM, GUILLERMO WAS JUST EXITING AND WE BUMPED INTO EACH OTHER, WOW!!!...HE S SO HUMBLE, WE CHATTED A LITTLE BIT AND THEN HE LEFT AND CAME BACK LATER AT THE END OF THE FILM FOR A Q&A....

I'm so glad Guillermo talked about Crimson Peak in this video, and how those that connect with that film connect very profoundly. I'm one of those people that connected strongly with Crimson. I love all of Del Toro's films, and Pans Labyrinth is a masterpiece, but Crimson Peak is my favorite and is a beautiful misunderstood gothic romance. Please watch it if you haven't and love Guillermo's other films!

This movie doesn't work unfortunately. The final time that the faun visits her and tells her to bring her brother to him in the labyrinth she informs him that the door is locked to which he hands her a piece of chalk and instructs her to create her own door. Now her ability to create doors by drawing them with chalk is either imaginary or it is real. If it's imaginary then she NEVER leaves the locked room, however, if it IS real then her stepfather should have been able to see the faun that she's speaking with at the end of the film. ☹️
