Chopwell Wood near Rowlands Gill in Gateshead is a perennial favourite amongst the North East's MTB community. It's home to The Powerline and Article 50- the woods only sanctioned mountain bike trails - as well as a network of dark, underground trails.

I reluctantly threw in the towel and called in for air support. You have me giggling a lot then!
Thanks Jonathan. Blew the budget on that one. ;)
Cracking vid fella, not found those un-named trails. I'll definately have a poke around next time I'm up
Cheers Neil. Glad you enjoyed it. Can't really allude to locations here, but if you spot a green Vitus Sommet in the woods, feel free to flag me down.
Love the style and humour. 😂
Can't wait to get back oot and aboot again on the trails. Really enjoyed Hamsterley.
Thanks. Much appreciated. Hamsterley's a lot of fun. There's so much to ride.
Great video buddy and love your style too 😊👍
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
Riden here about 5/6 years a d I all I remember is the power lines trail ya spoke of and mud, mud and more mud 😂. Loving the content 👍. How about a Hamsterley forest one?
Thanks Paul. I love Choppers. Always something new to find.
Also love Hammers...

It is a bit wild but a bit of perseverance can reveal some canny trails.
It just goes to show that things don't always go to plan, which is all part of the fun.
Ridden chopwell twice now. I noticed on my first visit last month the tail Boyzone was blocked off with fallen trees. Was there over the jubilee weekend an its been partially cleared with some new jumps but still not fully rideable. Im sure it will be sorted in the coming weeks though.
Greta video, love your style for these. I'd love to find all those trails. I've ridden Chopwell a good number of times and there's still trails in this video I've not found. Guess I'll have to keep going back
Thanks Nathan. That's largely how I did it. I have been given a few pointers, but mainly spent a whole bunch of time just getting out and riding. If you happen to see a devilishly handsome, 6' 3", bearded Adonis in the car park, that's probably me. I'll give you some directions.
There are a couple trails along from boyzone, i'm not sure if i've seen you do it. But there is a section called roots up at the top of chopwell near that train carrage.
Thanks for the heads up, Kyle; I'll take a look next time I'm up there. Yeah, did Roots in an earlier vid. It's way more fun when it's dry.
boy zone is made of 4 sections that are called 4 links
You need to get up the tweed valley mate arguably best riding in the uk
You're absolutely right, Russell. I've ridden The Golfie, parts of Innerleithen, XC and some DH, and Glentress, too. Never been disappointed. Flat White was excellent.
@@MeantforDescent I was looking for some footage from you of the golfie, have i just not spotted it? I like your clear to the point style with a little humour. Cheers
Thanks Russell. No, I've not uploaded anything from the Golfie yet, but it's definitely on the list. I'd love to get back up there soon.
Top work as always dude.
We’ve got some super sweet natural trails up here at Ae with your name on it.
If your back up this way. Give us a shout. Ride Safe mate. 🤙🏴
Cheers, man. Got another Wales trip on the horizon, but I could easily be tempted to ride Ae at some point beyond that.
@@MeantforDescent Yeah, Wales looks the bomb.
That was defo on the calendar before all this craziness happened.
Wenwere supposed to go to Fort William in July, but l decided it would be better if l atteacked a tree and separated my shoulder, so had too cancel.
Just starting to get back on the bike again.
There’s some super sweet sections up here, so if you decide to head back up this way again. Hit me up.
Ride Safe Brother. 🤙🏴
We're booked for BPW, Black Mountain Cycle Centre and we're probably heading to the Forest of Dean, too. Glad you're on the mend. Will definitely give you a shout next time we're in your neighbourhood.
@@MeantforDescent Sweet. Enjoy Wales. Look forward to the vids. 🤙🏴
Great video! Do you know of many beginner friendly trails around these parts? I tried the powerline trail but it was far more difficult in person than you made it look on camera! I know Hamsterly has some blue trails but somewhere local like Chopwell, as I live in Gateshead, would be ideal. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks, Ivan. I think if you're looking for dedicated blue trails your going to have to travel a bit. I don't know of anything close to town. I know Hamsterley has a blue trail, but I haven't ridden it. Kielder has the Osprey Trail, which I released a video on recently, and Glentress has a blue trail too. I rode that a long while ago before riding the red, and it was entertaining, but short.

You might want to try the trails at Rothbury
@@olteanualex1989Thank you! Where in Rothbury?
Iv rode most them trails in the dry and the are good me and my pal found a few more decent ones by mistake
Nothing better than finding new sections, Mick. Especially if you weren't expecting it. Choppers is full of surprises. Love it.
@@MeantforDescent definitely we went on a little mission haha
