Served an apprenticeship at North Road Works (1959), amazed by the machine shop picture with every machine driven by overhead line shafting and very long flat belts in earlier days. A great job putting all those pictures on CZcams, thank you.

Ancestors that lived in Darlington from at least 1823, when my 3rd great grandfather was married at St Cuthbert's Church. Great grandfather John was in the Ancient Order of Druids around 1900. I worked as a draughtsman for Whessoe Heavy Engineering back in the 1980s. Our family worked for the North Eastern Railway Company, living in Darlington, Stockton & Thornaby ( where I was born & grew up ).

I was apprenticed at Whessoe in 1968. Served my time and got away from Darlington. Same cultural mentality exists there to this day I believe?

Some very good photos, but they were ruined because you do not allow enough time for people to take in the contents. Also, the titles of each view blocked what little chance there is of seeing the pictures. Very disappointing for me since I lived in Darlington as a boy and then moved away.
