It's worth noting that this is the only SpongeBob DVD to use the Paramount logo from 1986 in the opening which is pretty vintage, even for the time.
Could be the final Nickelodeon-related Paramount DVD to use the old 1986 logo.
Alot of toys and stuff passed the early 80s really are not worth as much as you would think cause they make so much of the stuff where alot can collect them all and also everyone kept in mind to hold on to things 90s-2000s and 2010s were a very collective era
Okay so I had this DVD as a kid and watched it all of the time, and one of the episodes is “Something Smells” in which SpongeBob gets “the ugly”. However, during the scene in which SpongeBob says hi to the building, there’s a really weird error only on the DVD where the audio actually glitches and SpongeBob instead of saying “Hi Building” his next line of dialogue plays twice in a row. It’s really strange and hard to describe but you could probably find the clip on CZcams, but for the longest time I just thought that’s how the episode was so when I first watched the episode on TV and the audio was correct I was very very confused.
No I had the VHS of nautical nonsense with something smells with the same error
@@94unclechuck That makes sense
i had a bootleg vhs of episodes my mom would record on tv and it had this error, always thought it was just a really weird airing glitch or something with the vhs
I just don’t get it!
…I don’t either!
I just don’t get it!
…I don’t either!
It actually aired on TV with that same audio error for a couple of years. I guess they screwed it up even on the master tape and put that version on DVD without even noticing.
This was the first Spongebob DVD my mom bought me! I still have it and actually got it signed by Tom Kenny back in late 2017! He was sweet and charming and it was a real joy to meet him and watch him perform Best Day Ever.
Did you know that all of these episodes are in the SpongeBob Christmas Blu-ray, but instead of using the DVD master, it uses the VHS master, so it includes the full 1986 Paramount logo and the Nickelodeon “Maze” bumper at the start.
Yeah, I've seen some fans disappointed that all of the episodes that are on this DVD were included on the It's a SpongeBob Christmas! Blu-ray, but with no attempts at trying to remaster the picture quality. Understandably so because why put the episodes on Blu-ray when your not going to be bothered to improve the quality from the DVD/VHS?
My favorite dvd easter egg is from the season 1 boxset, there's a tour of bikini bottom with Patchy in which he confirms that Sandy's house was made by Nasa.
HUH?
wait that means that nasa is canon in spongebob wtf?
Why would the National Aeronautics and Space Administration do that
@@carlrygwelski586is there a lore reason to it? are they stupid?
@@ssg-eggunner No but they go to space lol pressure is the opposite. You would think a marine company would have built the underwater dome.
I suppose it's possible for them but ocean is not their specialty.
i have a VHS copy of Nautical Nonsense but with a sticker that reads "*FOR DISTRIBUTOR PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY. NOT FOR SALE, RENTAL, DUPLICATION, OR PUBLIC PERFORMANCE*" on the front cover and the VHS sticker, with a similar message on the back. not sure why i felt like mentioning that but yeah
6:42 For a second I thought he was gonna say "Let's go ahead and throw the disk in the trash"
I cried seeing Stephen Hillenburg's signature...
Grow up

The PG rating is from Canada, American releases for shows usually were never rated in the US , WB usually marks it as NOT RATED. Each Canadian rating has a colour, G is green, PG is blue, 14A is yellow and 18A is red
Actually 18A is orange, R is red.
Funny considering in 1996 the Federal Communications Act also mentioned about how TV shows should show the same rating that video games and movies have been rated as well.
Early SpongeBob DVDs in Canada were rated PG for brief and mild violence, including The Complete 1st Season DVD.
The original painty the pirate painting is actually pretty small and doesn’t have a mouth on it. You were correct about that big one being a copy.
It’s interesting that nautical nonsense and sponge buddies were released separately on VCD
I just watched the dvd yesterday with the nephew for the first time in years. The menu page of scenes playing out in the background for 4 secs was ahead of its time.
3:28 Why was the sound spongebob made so funny to me 😭😭
Also there is a error on the Something Smells episode of where Spongebob says "Hi, Building!" it winds up with Spongebob reusing "I just don't get it!".
I always thought that was odd
I just don't get it! Why did they do that?
@@JH-xm5sn I don't either
Your absolutely right,
Oh my goodness, I remember that.
That was really weird. XD
I believe I still have this DVD. As far as I'm aware, this was actually SpongeBob's first DVD release, and for a while, I was collecting pretty much every SpongeBob DVD that came out, during the height of my obsession with the show.
Fun fact, a year after It’s a SpongeBob Christmas released on DVD they released a Blu-ray version that contained everything from Nautical Nonsense and SpongeBuddies. It had all the special features and even had the vintage Paramount and Nickelodeon logos at the beginning of the bonus episodes.
15:04 Maybe the voice lines were real, filmed in the moment, but that's just not the take they used in the episode.
5:54 older generations will use quotations as emphasis as we might use all caps or bold.
I had that DVD growing up. It was the doorway into my adoration for SpongeBob at the time. Had I never got that disc, I would’ve never wanted to see the movie, in the movie theatre, on opening day.
I didn't have this one, but I did own the Sponge Who Could Fly and Sea Stories.
I only have one SpongeBob DVD. The DVD I have is the DVD for the first SpongeBob movie.
I had a VHS of the one with the Ripped Pants episode. As a growing boy without cable, it saved me from cultural isolation, so thank you mom!
just casually throwing in "i actually stole this copy" is so funny
The alternate voice linereads were probably recorded in the same session as the ones they actually used in the episode as another possible take.
This is what I think too. Watching the graveyard shift one you can tell Tom and Rodger are still getting a feel for the lines and timing of them.
for the painty bit, NLE video editing did exist in 1999 so they could have used the 4’ painting without much issue
I remember one of the commentary pop up things heavily imply that seahorse meat was one of the ingredients in the Krabby Patty secret formula.
Something about "a lot of seahorses have been disappearing".
I had this one as a kid, loved these episodes so much. I could probably find it again and rewatch it.
OMG I just found this VHS at the thrift store! But that DVD looks like worth getting. Those menu screens look awesome
Rugrats Decade in Diapers 2001 DVD uses the same menu layouts as this one. not to mention that they were both distributed by Metropolis DVD.
Awe, this was the first SpongeBob DVD my mom got me after getting our first DVD player. Like, this one might have been the first time I experienced a DVD menu at all!
I have vague memories of watching the ripped pants episode on a dvd. Idk if it was this one or not. But that paramount logo is what made me remember 😭
6:46 You think we can get a video dedicated to the Spongebob DVD player? I'm genuinely curious about that thing. :)
So nostalgic! This was my first SpongeBob DVD! I remember we used to watch this on trips
I actually have it on DVD 😂
rip Stephen Hillenburg. Spongebob is definitely the cartoon goat along with Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny.
I’d love to see more of these DVD videos, would be so nostalgic!
wait one of my favorite shows (spongebob) was covered by one of my favorite bands (violet femmes)? Insane!
I had the vhs. I remember buying that because it had unreleased episodes at the time
I used to have this dvd
The sponge is a source of joy and fun :D
I own this DVD yes... I live in Texas as well, this DVD... has that episode and it's awesome
Cool review! I had this dvd as a kid but I didn't realise it was combining two vhs releases, that's pretty interesting.
Note: Graveyard Shift and Club SpongeBob were released on this DVD first. It came out on March 12, 2002. The episodes premiered on Nickelodeon on September 6 ans July 12, respectively.
I love the DVD is so many times as a kid that has the most iconic memorable episodes we all seen on DVD before watching them on TV
Didn't know you had a second channel, this is just as fun as your main channel videos. Editing is hilarious, love your energy as always. keep it up!

I grew up with this disc in the early 2010s
I love the Sponge buddies VHS, I still have it!
I still have this dvd and the Halloween one somewhere. I love rewatching them.
Goddamn it was the first? I was old enough to have vhs when I was a kid and remember having this dvd (somewhere in the stack now), but knowing this was the first spongebob dvd makes me feel like an old son of a bitch.
Holy moly I have found the archive
Love the editing you did. Excited for more videos to come.
Thank you for the heart. ❤️
I think You should Watch "A better schedule for Nickelodeon's main block"
Me too.
I didn't know this channel existed. I'm so happy now I have more to watch 😆
About a minute in and I can already see that this is a very charming channel. Subscribed.
I had a spongebob vhs or dvd as a kid and in the episode something smells when he tries to tell patrick at the bus stop about people running away he said I JUST DONT GET IT twice in a row does anyone know what that was about or if that was a rare mistake that be very rare or valuable now
The Complete 2nd Season DVD audio commentary confirms the repeated audio in "Something Smells" is indeed a sound mixing error that sadly became the same version used in Canadian and Australian airings. Despite this, the closed-captioning on the Nautical Nonsense and Sponge Buddies and Season 2 DVDs still use the original correct line of "Hi building!" But on The First 100 Episodes DVD, the closed-captioning has been updated to match the incorrect audio.
@@andykishore that's cool I use to think my memory was off but yet I know it was on my vhs at the time I wish i kept it hopefully I can find it again but man the spongebob vhs seem to be some of the most collectible vhs I never find one at any of my thrift stores and ones online are in ruff shape or pricy
Yeah I had that disc with that error. Thought it was just scratched.
I still have this and the Halloween disk
Duuuuuuuuudddeeeeeeeee I'm really digging the Shadow shirt!
Another thing I noticed about the picture of Sandy on the cover - the badge on her suit is on the wrong side.
I Bought This Recently, Great Find.
