- The Cleveland Cavaliers are the 2016 NBA Champions and as a Cleveland fan I still can't believe it. Cleveland has not seen a championship since 1964. LeBron James the kid from Akron promised the city a title and against all odds he delivered. Here's a brief story of the Cleveland Curse and how it was destoryed. All rights to the footage, audio and images belong to the NBA, NFL, MLB and ESPN. All rights to the first song belong to Zack Hemsey. All rights to the second song belong to Aerosmith. Cleveland was even ranked as the saddest, unluckiest, and the most cursed city in North America Sports, with Cincinnati ranked #3 on said list. Indians and Browns are the top 3 of the unluckiest teams in sports, trust me I've seen that video when the Indians were able to reach the playoff
2015-2016 was the best season in world's sports history.... Cleveland won its first title coming back down 3-1 against historical 73win Warriors, NCAA Championship ends with back to back buzzer from each team, Cubs ended their curse, and in UK Leicester City won its first Premier League Title... This is why I love sports

That was the worst. Cavs r champions, Ohio state buckeyes champions, Stipe miocic champion and the Cleveland monsters champs. The Indians can't get over the hump. Go Cleveland tho.

All of you who burned LeBron jerseys, think about it for a second... If LeBron doesn't go to Miami, the Cavs don't fall apart and don't get the 1st overall pick. No Kyrie. No Kyrie, no championship, LeBron or no LeBron, promise or no promise. So LeBron had to go away and then come back for Cleveland to win this championship. Pretty obvious.
Bron could have still brought a championship. But yea he didn't wanna go until he realized he can grow with kyrie.

GREAT post. I lived in Ashtabula, Ohio, 40 miles away from Cleveland. My father, L.C. Mathers (RIP) was the ultimate die-hard Browns fan. I saw the frustration in his face week after week when the Brownies never came through. The Drive, the fumble, Michael freakin Jordan delivered pain, agony, and blues to the Cleveland fan. NOT ANYMORE! All is washed away. Thanx to LeBron, Uncle Drew, KLove, TT, JR Swish, Shump, Deli, and the rest of the Cavalier squad. Here it is the middle of September and I am still watching CZcams videos of folks dancing in the streets of Cleveland. This championship heals all emotional wounds felt by a Cleveland sports fan. Definitely. We partied all summer long following the finals. The championship not only broke the 52 year curse, but it also brought the city of Cleveland and the state of Ohio together in ways never thought possible.

it's still always touching to see the Browns players hanging with the fans after their last game in Cleveland. they knew they were leaving and knew the city loved them, so they went out with style and thanked the fans.

I have been trying to convey to my son, who is not a sports fan and who was born outside Ohio, how important Lebron and this championship was to Cleveland. My son had a lightweight assignment to analyze a commercial for college Comp 1 and we watched the Nike ad with the Cleveland people coming together in a huddle with Lebron. I sat there with tears in my eyes and he looked at me like I was nuts. Now , I know James has his faults and sports championships , in the grand scheme of things , are small potatoes. But living through the “ mistake on the lake “ jokes and just the general disrespect midwesterners get in general just add to the pride in this championship. A big part part of me is sad he’ll never love Cleveland ( and Cleveland sports ) the way I do. And yet a small part of me is relieved. About the best I can get from him is an extreme disdain for Michigan. At least all is not lost :)

This is a true story for Cleveland. LeBron promised you something and overcome it by beating a team with 73 wins and blew off to the playoffs. He was the only person to do that because he was the one that promised Cleveland and showed it. This is how you end a stroy no other player will have this legacy for any city in the World. Hands down the best legacy of all sports history

What made the 2016 victory just a little bit more sweet was that they went the finals twice before and got out matched. They battled through so much to win that finals.

It really was an amazing story. Cleveland used to be a big city during the wars and the teams were really good, mainly the browns (the american football team). But Cleveland was an industrial city so as industry and production moved to third world countries it suffered a big population loss, went broke and became really run down. It's still made fun of today by a lot of americans. Basically as the city went to shit, we all looked to sports for something good, and our teams went to shit too, occasionally being good but then suffering the most painful defeats possible. After our baseball team was really good but had an epic collapse in the finals, our sports just sucked when we drafted LeBron. He was amazing, but we didn't put good players around him, and then he made that stupid TV special where he announced his decision (which was agonizing for us, to be embarrassed on national tv). Everyone was convinced the curse wouldn't be broken, and then he came home. And then 2016 happened, coming back from 3-1 when no team had ever done that before. It was incredible, having broken the curse in historic fashion. Of course it's also Cleveland luck that as soon as he comes home, with us finally having a great team around him, the Warriors exist. We would've beaten any other team. But that's how it goes in Cleveland, and at least we got 1/4 championships during that run. Each run was still fun in its own. That's what we've lived for all these years, the runs, but LeBron was the athlete who finally brought home a championship for us after 52 years (across all sports, think about that)
