I remember how hard this song hit me last year- so much to the point that it drove me to tears. Knowing God will always be there for us and loving us, regardless of our place in life is just so overwhelming. No wealth, status, level of intellect, or anything else works like prayer works! Need this right now. Lack of motivation to do my law school. Failed assignments and feeling inadequate to the calling. Anxious for shame if I don’t get a certain grade and honours. This anxiety paralyses me, and keeps me from feeling motivated. Doing assignments that I hate, and find no value in. But procrastination is a sin, for I waste the time and talent God has allotted for me each day. I have to be present in the season I am in now, for without today, there is no tomorrow.
Like how my mind cannot ever fathom what tomorrow will be like, or a year from now on; i find motivation in being obedient to truth right now, right here, where I am without complaining and covering. Being obedient to his instructions now motivates me, and is the only Truth that will keep me enduring through discomfort and trials. Only His word will motivate you despite failures. Because if I make other people like my peers, my teachers and my friends my audience, I will always be disappointed in them and in myself. I will always be disappointed and discouraged in their appraisal of me and my own efforts.
But if I make God my only audience and authority, i am free from that burden of pleasing everyone, and making it perfect for all my teachers and getting distinctions in all my subjects. If I submit myself to the law of man, and look to them for security and hope to give me sense of motivation, value, and purpose, the cursed burden under man’s law; the condemnation and charge that will always be against me is that I am not allowed to fail. That there is no forgiveness, both from them or in me to keep going even if I fail. The curse of failure binds me if I bind myself and submit to the law of man.
But if I submit to the law of Galatians 6:4, ( But each one must carefully scrutinize his own work [examining his actions, attitudes, and behavior], and then he can have the personal satisfaction and inner joy of doing something commendable without comparing himself to another” ), I can be free to fail. As long as I labour in the boundaries of my soil each day, there is no shame in failing. There is no shame in not receiving the grade I had desired.
He charges me to work hard for each day’s labour, from the moment I wake up, to the moment I put my head to my pillows. If I do my daily portion of assignments without complaining, with diligence, with gratitude, without coveting the past or the future, I will have the inner satisfaction and personal pride in a job well done, humble and honest, which is service worthy to be offered to Him as my work to be done on earth in this season and time of life. That kind of work deserves commendation, and is the only kind of work He looks for. How my teachers and other men appraise my work is irrelevant so long as I try my best in each one.
The law of sowing and reaping will fail if i make man my audience and authority. But, the law of sowing and reaping is true if you make God your one and only audience and authority to appraise your work. So get to work me!
