The last bar was amazing! However, I have to go with the deep trench in the woods, those woods were so pretty, gotta add a hike through there to a Japan trip plan!!
When are you going to start charging people to take them to hidden parts of Japan, Norm?
Norm you could start a japan adventure tour guide business. It will be called.
Norm's Japan Tour Guide.
All of it ✌️ Best by far. #explorealways
Izakaya's are all unique and quirky.Beautiful little adventure, although i loved how Noah was a little concerned with going off the beaten track (never to be seen again)lol
Norm being friends with the old shop keeper lady and regularly going to visit is so freaking wholesome
yeah, that made my heart melt, just so sweet to see something like that :)
7:43 I just love the pure excitement she feeling when norm walked it. You could just hear how happy she was to see him again. This is why I watch, absolutely love how norm connects with people.
To be fair, he does have an advantage. God gave him smiling eyes. His eyes exude happiness and joy, which in turn elevate the moods and connections of those he meets.
Kyoto has been my neighborhood for almost my entire life as I was born and raised in Osaka but anytime I watch your Kyoto video, you show me lots of eye opening discoveries! Always love your passion for new adventure and please keep it up, Norm!😆✨
Yuka,
Honestly thank you so much for all the kind comments!! I'm glad that I can bring back some positive memories and introduce new spots that you can see in the future!!
Do you have any exciting videos coming up? Keep up the great work!!
I just tried out your channel. I’m a fan, keep it up!
I got a chance to visit Kyoto and stayed at nishiyama ryokan. Came in from Osaka in the rain at night. I had a magical time in my short stay there.
That old shrine is amazing!! Thanks Mr Norm, for always bringing these wonderful places to those of us who can't travel. 🙏🖤✌️
it's a huge part of why I do it~
Thank you so much
Mr norm..
one of my favorite episodes. when norm says he knows a few spots, u know you're in for a treat.
So true Konata
I've been mostly bedridden for a month and a half with a herniated disc. Thank you for bringing all of us along, especially when some of us are stuck and unable to go adventure ourselves! Your videos bring me a lot of hope and joy, Norm, thank you so much 🙏
Noah's shock and awe through out the video was so cute. If I was gonna get lost in a forest I'd want it to be that one. So beautiful.😊
he was just feeling the magic the whole time!
I think the mountain hike and meeting up with the shop keeper on the the Fushimi Inari side was fun. Funny how she commented that you made Noah go through that! 😆 But it's also amazing how quiet the evening hours are!
I just can't stop visiting her! Cant wait to go back already!
Man Norm is just releasing video after video, week after week of amazing little bits of Japan. Not a single video can disappoint, including this one!
Keep doin what you’re doin, Norm! Love the videos and love this community!!
such a wonderfully kind comment to leave
Thank you so much for that!
It may be weird of me to write this, but I can't help but burst into tears anytime hidden gems such as these come to view.
I cried at every scene, the family-esque establishments, the hidden trails, the trains, the temples, the restaurants, even that sweet 86-year-old lady, those bottles and the way cars roam free.
After living in a country where watching your back everywhere you go is the norm (no pun intended lol) , to see a place I wouldn't feel scared exploring in the dead of night just hits different. The pure essence of safety, security, purity.
I know Japan has issues, as does every country on Earth, but this place is as close to what the dictionary defines as 'a civilized society' in my humble opinion.
I agree and feel similar! I see videos like this and it feels like something is tugging at my heart for how badly I would love to go and do what he's doing. I am from N. America and personally feel that if we could take on a more serious "considerate of those around us and our surroundings" things could look more like Japan. The cleanliness and safety at least. Also how their zoning laws work, I absolutely love because it makes up how all those buildings are patchworked together. So cozy and intriguing!
Thank you Norm for taking us on a hidden adventure in Kyoto! It was exciting and very interesting. 😊I wanna say hi to the lady's tea (icecream) shop. Noah's reaction was entertaining😆
Lemi!!! What is upppppp!!
Great to have you here~
And you gotta go visit her sometime!
She is truly the best!
WAS AWESOME hanging out with you Norm!! TYSM for showing me around Kyoto. Hope to release my side of the adventure soon!!
Now I just need to come back to Japan more often ;)
Amazing adventure!!
Can’t wait to have you back!
Thanks for tagging along!!
Noah. Allow me to butt in on your posting to say it was awesome to watch you on Norm's videos again. Wonder and discovery are always my favorite parts of travel, so thank you for allowing us to see more of yours as Norm drags you around!
Also, yes on the breakfast. I know that's more on the other video, but still...BREAKFAST! :D
This video reminds me of when I first went to Japan and an experienced friend brought me on adventures around the country. We had lots of magical moments, found tons of hidden gems. My most cherished memories. Thank you Norm for bringing such a beautiful experience to everyone around the world 😊
I was at the spot at 18:46 with the sculptures in 2019. It is owned by a husband and wife that are super interesting artists. She paints and draws some amazing peices and the husband sculps and paints all the weird stuff. The wife was super nice, and we had as much as a conversation as we could in our broken Japanese/English. I ended up buying two pieces from them, one as a gift for a friend and one to keep. Seeing you guys there even for the little time you were brought back some good memories, and I still have the sculpture as decoration.
Hi, can you share where this spot is located at? I'll be in Kyoto tonight and would love to check it out!
@oxyg3n520 it's Yasaka Pagoda. Sorry I couldn't reply to you sooner, hope your trip was good. It's weird that this commenter and Tokyo Lens Norm would gatekeep this information.
Is it just me or would anyone else like Norm for their tour guide? 😄🙋🏻♀️ Your enthusiasm is infectious and loved Noah's reactions. THAT'S the side of Kyoto I'd love to experience. Thanks for another superb video. 🙏❤⛩
I swear I haven't enjoyed a travel video as much as I did this one. If watching so many Tokyo Lens videos has taught me anything, it's that true beauty of Japan lies off the beaten path. Noah was very lucky to get you to show him around.
I'm very excited to go to all of these places once I move to Japan.
You guys packed soooo much into one day! Very glad you didn't fall down the mountain! Those night photos in Kyoto were insanely beautiful: I can understand Noah's crisis.
Thanks for yet another great video, Norm. Really makes me more eager to get back to Japan. 😊
was a crazy day!!
I am also glad that we didnt fal off the mountain hahaha
seeing your friends expression to the beauty of Japan really brought a smile, thank you for finding all of this gems
I love so much about this video, but that first restaurant was sublime. Like a themed cafe, and the theme is "what would happen if I just walked in someone's back door and said _Hey, if I give you twenty bucks, will you make me dinner?"_
The backstreet restaurant was so cool, the beauty of being able to speak the language well. I'd love a day with Norm, getting to see and try things off the tourist track. Great video!
This is legit the kind of stuff I want to find when we go explore when we're on our honeymoon! Gotta add this to my notes haha!
I love how the Tokyo Lens community is so kind and chill. Lens Heads for life ❤🎉
Thank you so much for another amazing trip around Kyoto! We, my friends and I, too explored the less busy side of Kyoto yesterday. It is worth it to step away from the busyness.
I am also so very grateful that you continue to visit the shop owner. She touched my heart and remains a favorite!
Take care!
Everything you show us in your videos is something that many tourists wouldn't find without a local guide or by mistake. I really love the hidden gems that I can add to my itinerary! I know for sure that I will try to hike through the bamboo forest to Fushimi Inari and the bar with the most chaotic bathroom I have ever seen! Happy Easter and thank you for the fantastic content!
That looked like a great day. So many interesting places! Thank you for taking us along. Really loved Noah's reactions, it made it even better.
I have no idea how you did it but you casually and seamlessly integrated the ad into the storytelling of the video AGAIN! Absolutely wow. Its like the ad wasnt scripted at all, and just part of the story
hahaha
we just really needed a snack break
just wrked out!
Thanks Norm for increasing my love to Japan ❤🔥
Morning, Norm!
Thanks for another adventure. We love that you take us to some odd places we'd never know about otherwise.
Also, the juxtaposition at the beginning going from the luxury hotel room to the ruins in the forest was a fun transition.
Crazy does not even begin to describe this video. You had me hooked (much like Noah) the entire time you went around Kyoto. Always enjoy seeing these hidden mountain routes and back alleyways that lead to something unexpected. These sort of things are definitely added to the Kyoto itinerary.
The more I watch, the longer my "need to visit" list gets! And I'm all for it
I loved the abandoned temple and the forest, the second bar is a visual explosion and also the scenes where you walk through the city.
You should start dropping pins at these locations so when people visit Japan they can go to the description of a video and put the locations in on maps and visit them.
As always thank you for bringing us along on your adventure. I really liked the backside of the mountain trail. The tiny kyoto restaurant seemed like you were having dinner with family. The Pagoda at night was spectacular. So much to like here. Awesome video for this week. Hope your trip to Vancouver goes well.
Another awesome video! Noah’s reactions to everything were so wholesome! A great start to my day. Thank you Norm and Noah.
That was absolutely fantastic Norm San THANK YOU, I used to be a scout leader and belonged to a long distance walking group (out every weekend) but now because of the Arthritis I can only manage a few yards, so seeing and watching your videos and the way you present them are a great lift to my spirits, please do more videos like this and your camping and wilderness one’s
Hey, Norm. I don't usually comment or anything, but I've been watching for ages. I really appreciate what you do, thank you for sharing your perspective of Japan. The way you present things has been one of my biggest inspirations for eventually visiting Japan.
I can't wait to visit Japan in the near future. So many cool places to see, I feel that even going on a random exploring spree/getting lost would throw at least a few interesting sights your way. Thanks so much for these wonderful videos Norm! 🖤
Just absolutely amazing. I love seeing, through you, the parts of Japan that most people don't get to see. It's really inspiring my holiday itinerary :D loved the old shrine, and the night view of the pagoda 👌🏼
Loved to see a different side of Kyoto. I'm used to seeing all the well known places so this is like a breath of fresh air. 😊
I love that first Shrine and bamboo trail. I've been there a bunch of times. Super cool having a bamboo forest that actually goes all the way up to the top of the mountain. I lived in that area of Kyoto and it was a fun way to get to and from Fushimi since I lived on the other side of the mountain. That land was actually for sale maybe a year or 2 ago for like 1.5 million. Pretty sure they regularly harvest the bamboo there and those ladders are for the trucks to get in and out.
Thanks, Norm. Love your videos - you take us to such off the beaten path places and your research always provides such wonderful insight and history. Noah's reactions were so genuine and fun to watch!
The places you always travel to is such a beautiful place, love the places and the way you depict the places in the vlog
Words can not describe this latest walk in the bamboo forest and the shrine you found along the way.
The look of awe on Noah's face as you took him off the beaten track, priceless!
Man, this is why I love this channel. You show us so many unique areas/experiences.
I always come back to these video's of you Norm where you explore these unknown corners, trails, shops and alleys.
They are always such a great vibe and then you link other video's... And down the rabbit hole we go.
Keep up the great work and stay safe!
The old shrine near the beginning was interesting with how it had an underground section. Also it just being surrounded by nature.
You guys have great energy, loved this and Noah's reactions! Amazing video 👌👍👌
Absolutely loved your video Norm. It's just amazing to me how genuine and passionate you are about everything you do!
Keep it up ! Looking forward to more Videos 😊
Noah got the number 1 tour guide in all of Kyoto, Anyone would be lucky to get dragged around Japan by Norm
Norm is a true Canadian. He's nice to everyone and can't say no to fans wanting pictures. A fellow Canuck indeed :)
I had a smile in my face throughout the video, so wholesome, thanks Norm! ❤
This is the type of exploration I would love to do in japan, and what my husband and I tend to do whenever we travel. Love the hidden awesomeness you manage to find everywhere you go :)
This might be my favourite Japanese exploration video on CZcams. Thank you so much.
Bruh that whole ass adventure was chef’s kiss. This felt like a wholesome date idea to take people on 😭
I’m not sure what it was about this video in particular but it gave me goosebumps over and over with the feeling it gave. I proposed to my now wife in Japan and we’ve been 5 times so far, this video gave me an incredible feeling of nostalgia and euphoria. I’m so glad to have found your channel years back, please keep it up and take care of yourself!
I know right!!! I love the fact we've finally been to Japan. Hoping to go back in spring of 24.
Amazing! Love to watch your videos on saturday and sunday mornings!
Love seeing all these hidden spots! The derelict shrines are so sad and beautiful, the kind of thing I'd love to explore myself but would probably be too nervous 😆
Norm, I smiled the whole time watching this post; thank you. 😊 Blowing Noah's mind with never expected experiences was a joy to watch but more than that it drives home the fact that your time in Japan has been spent both exploring and connecting with people...what a wonderful way to venture through life. You have looked below the surface and turned unknown corners to truly know a place and I am in awe of your ease and openness to engage with people. So many stories, so many interesting lives and places...thank you for taking us along and inspiring us to do the same. 😊❤️🌸🌏
GOAT video
The whole video was amazing! I would absolutely love being shown around by someone who knows the little, amazing, hidden things. 🥰
What a beautiful forest hike. Loved the 86 year old lady!💕The night scene pagoda was pretty magical. Thanks for another great adventure Norm.
Norm! I have had to watch this, rewinding and re-watching, From absolute forest discovery (have to stealth camp there), visiting your adorable 86 year old shop owner(happy tears!), to the tiny hidden drink and snack place that looks like my (yikes) home ((not that cluttered but close)), to the "rubbish art izakaiya...... I am blown away that you have captured many aspects of my nightly dreams in real places with real people. The paths, alleys, cab rides are also in my dreams for decades! (57 years old now! Wow!!!) This is another of my many favorite films you have done...Top 3!!!! For me and my dreams!
Thanks, Norm! Especially for taking care of our elderly. I can't thank you enough for this alone.
Thanks norm for the vids over the years man absolutly love em all man and this one has a nice twist to it and i love it keep it up as always be safe out there on ur adventures
Very cool places! Thanks for sharing Norm!
Japan has always been my dream destination. What a beautiful country! 😍
Thank you for sharing.
Man I always love watching these Japanese exploration videos late at night. Thanks for sharing your adventures!
Thanks for always being here for it!
Great video Norm! Your night walk videos inspired me to do a late night walk around Senso-Ji in Tokyo when I visited last November. Gotta do a night walk in Kyoto next time!
Just wonderful! Thanks for showing us as always :)
One my favourite videos on your channel. I normally watch a lot of your countryside exploration and camping but this video was very enjoyable. Keep up the good work
Aww yeah, part two of the adventure with your buddy in Kyoto. Such adventure!
I think there’s countless tracks or mysterious paths at Fushimi Inari. I stumbled upon one there as well and it turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip. It’s amazing.
I think that my favourite spot would have been able to walk around the area with the pagoda late at night with no one else around rather when it's crowded during the day. And that last bar looked insane😂
We thankfully went before the country opened up in Oct and there were still loads of people near Hokan-ji 法観寺 shrine. But still worth a visit. there is a small shop next to it that serves Matcha vanilla swirl. So worth it!!!
The street looking on the pagoda was so magical! It made me said "Wow" out loud! Thanks for taking us on a less seen journey.
Love watching you explore Japan, absolutely stunning! Cheers
Always love watching these in the morning
Noah's reaction and comments about that hidden restaurant REALLY have me intrigued. I mean, that place looked like someone's cluttered home!
How do you find these places?! This is exactly what I want to experience when I go to Japan next year.
....I mean seriously! That place looked like my grandma's cluttered home!!
That means the food is not only good but it's probably cooked with love. How do I find these places? I'm gonna end up walking into someone's home😂😂😂
Of all Foreign CZcamsrs in Japan, no one even comes close to how you engage the culture. Just watched your "Cleanest Town..." video. Great stuff.
These are the kinds of places i want to find on my next visit to Japan. Getting away from people and into nature and seeing the old shrines is simply incredible. such a lovely piece of history. And seeing Norm stop and take pictures with fans was sol wholseome.
This was the best video!!! I love your friend reaction on everything that you showed him!! Well done 🎉
I absolutely love the dynamic between you two! Noah reacts to what you show him in the same way I do while watching the videos! So funny 😆
Very much reinforcing my desire to add Kyoto to my next trip to Japan. This looks so beautiful!!!❤
It really is cool!! parts of are similar to Osaka but even though it is so close it just feels different in such a cool way.
Loved the dynamic and differences between you two in the adventure!
This video gives me such good vibes... thank you!
That was an amazing video, Norm! It's so sweet that you go visit the woman every time you're in the area. So seems like a lovely soul. And the old shines you found! They'd be so interesting to explore. But coming from Australia, my first thought when you climbed down was, what if there were snakes? 😅 I've smiled and laughed my way though this whole video. It was well worth the anticipation from the last one, and a perfect ending to the Easter weekend. Thanks for sharing, and happy Easter ❤
Always love me some norm videos. So much positive vibe all the time. ❤
Your videos just hit different. Beautifully shot and edited to perfection. I could watch an entire video of only scenes from a taxi window accompanied by some chill music. I want to visit all these places!
Another Really Cool Video! Kyoto is such an amazing place.I would love to travel there one day. Keep up the good work!!
Really love these night time videos, such a awesome atmosphere
I absolutely love when you find places that are unexpected. Like the remnants in the mountains, those were beautiful and fascinating! I wonder how long it took to originally construct it…Also enjoyed the woman’s enthusiasm at the rest stop, so sweet and genuine.
Bro ive been living too see your content love the vibes keep up the awesome videos man
Love these types of videos man. Glad to see that oba-san is doing well too 😊
Hey bro, I can't seem to watch all your videos, but I really love the nighttime videos. IDK, but they make Japan look even MORE sophisticated !! Keep it up.
These trips are always amazing to watch but I am particularly happy for your friend this time. I can only imagine how amazing this must feel in person for those of us that travel less and his expressions are spectacular 😅. Treasure your friendships always. 🍻
Thanks. I am obsessed with that old shrine now. I feel compelled to know all of its history.
AWESOME!! Will FINALLY be going to Japan for the first time in November and Fushimi Inari is one of the places I want to see most. The secret mountain path with bamboo forest looks SOOO amazing and I'm definitely going to try and find it...just adds more magic.
Noah’s microphone attachment is one bouncy step away from completely snapping off 🗣️
Absolutely stunning stuff, thanks for the video
