I was once invited to a Yam Festival in Aberdeen by a Nigerian friend. What shocked me was the similarities in culture I observed. I didn't know the language they were speaking but if I was to critically listen to it, I could make sense out of what they were saying with ease.
Now back to this video, looking at the sculptures and the dancers who welcomed the King of Asante, I could see what is referred to in Akan as Ntekuamba on their head.
The question I have is, could these two completely different ethnic groups (Yoruba and Akan) be related or had relations in the past that has resulted in these similarities? I know the Akwamu Kingdom (Akan) had some territory overlaps with the Yoruba Kingdom at some time past and wonder if this is the reason.

Which Benin or Bini are we talking about? Is the Benin City in Nigeria or Republic of Benin (the country).
That's why we need to get rid of all these European created countries and Chiefdoms and return to who we were, that way, a Yoruba will be within the same borders with all other Yorubas, and Ewe people will be within the same boundaries with all other Ewe.

Good point Son of Nok, historically parts of the territory called "Benin Repblic" was under the purview of Esama ( and/or Alaafin depending on the area and point in time in the said history).

My much bigger point is about the empire. I guess Benin people use "Oba" like Yorubas do (we don't really use king), but Oba is generic for us, so we have Alaafin which is separate to Ooni and many other titles of our 1st tier Obas.
I'm not familiar with the Benin equivalents but I know the shared history and ancestry and my point was about the wide expanse of the Benin empire.
