No you can not use this method for a gown. If you can not draft a straight gown than just draft your half-length and the down separate and tape the pattern to be one before you put it on the fabric and cut. I will try to make a video on how to cut straight gown without joining at the waist
Sorry for late reply No there is no cutting but you will shape all the six side but you start it with the middle first but you can decide to start with the side and at the end you will get the same results. I hope it is helpful thanks.

Yes that is if you want to fixed zip and also remember to use your waist measurement on the waist line but I didn't fixed zip so I use my hip measurement on my waist line and I put thread at the waist
