    He suffocated a man to death and then dismembered the body. How the hell is this psychopath even free?!

    • @MrMedusaLvamp
      @MrMedusaLvamp Před 10 lety +25

      If someone is biting you and you have broken glass in your back from them putting it there...your in the middle of a battle....you don't know how to make the biting stop and may bleed to death....then realize the guy is dead....yes he should have called the police after that....but he was on drugs and was scared...he made the wrong decision...and he paid for it with 17 years of his life...what more do you want for him disposing of a dead body~???

    • @ShadovvV
      @ShadovvV Před 10 lety +24

      Medusa Lvamp
      You're totally taking the entire situation out of context and formulating your own weird fantasy. The facts are the facts. He suffocated the guy to death and then cut him up. Period. 99% of anyone who does that in the USA gets life in prison, not 17 years. For these reasons, I think most would agree that Mr. Alig is a very high risk to be put back into society. That's my whole point.

    • @ShadovvV
      @ShadovvV Před 10 lety +4

      Medusa Lvamp Your logic is clearly twisted, since it would probably take more than five minutes to suffocate someone, which would definitely NOT be "self defense". Furthermore, a second person striking the victim with a hammer (handle or otherwise) at the same time is without doubt - overkill.. to say the least. This is clearly pre-meditated murder and if you can't see that then you also need your sanity checked. Actually, I already knew you were a psycho, just by looking at your icon picture and name.

    • @MrMedusaLvamp
      @MrMedusaLvamp Před 10 lety +6

    • @MrMedusaLvamp
      @MrMedusaLvamp Před 10 lety +7

      ShadowⓋ Remember...the case was heard by a jury....they knew it was self defence since Angel had Michael's hand in his mouth and wouldn't let go and his friend was only trying to make him let go and that's how they came up with manslaughter instead of murder 1...I wasn't on the jury and I wasn't the judge either, so no reason to aim your aggression towards me. You have your opinions but that's all they are. As far as my stage name; picture and persona that I use online...that's all they are...go figure...now run along and play with yourself like a good boy away from the adults so you can't bother anyone...Okay sugar~????

    @edeneverly2573 Před 5 lety +21

    “He was a young man whose disappearance was not only ignored by the New York police, it was used by intrepid detectives as another trading card, one that they offered to Alig in exchange for him squealing on his mentor, Gatien, whose money and drug misconduct interested them far more than "one of those copycats" everyone hates.
    As Angel's brother Johnny tirelessly scoured the streets for his vanished brother, posting signs and interviewing anyone who would talk to him, Alig regaled his friends with a lamentable story of self-defence that both common sense and the autopsy (which revealed Melendez had been murdered, with a hammer, asphyxiation and an injection of Drano) utterly refuted.“
    “Freeze didn’t explain why Alig and Angel fought so viciously in the first place: his version had him entering the room when the fight was already in progress. But from the various rumours and unverifiable reports, a more plausible scenario emerges: Angel had already saved $20,000 of his £100,000 target which he kept at Alig’s apartment, along with his stash of drugs. A couple of months earlier, Alig had stolen either $1,000 or $2,000 from Angel’s savings, and Angel had been demanding his money back for some time. When Angel confronted him again, Alig had replied that since he had been staying at the apartment for months without paying shit, he should write it off as his share of the $1,000-a-month rent. Angel had countered that he hadn’t even been given a key and that Alig had better get his money, and quick, or he’d call the DEA and tell them everything that had been going on in Gatien’s clubs. Freeze, who was in the next room, had heard all this and became more than a little anxious.
    Alig had been talking to Freeze about killing Angel for some time, but would never have the nerve to do it and, anyway, he was far too reliant on Angel for drugs. But when Angel started first screaming about going to the cops and then beating Alig, Freeze - who resented Angel, but put up with him because Michael wanted him around - got really angry, rushed into the bedroom, grabbed the hammer in the closet and smashed Angel’s head in. After Angel’s death, Alig stole the remaining $18,000, gave some to Freeze and bought some new furniture for the flat, which he then resold to finance his sudden departure to the mid-west - taking the rest of Angel’s belongings, including his green card, with him...
    Over the coming months, the respective lawyers will meet their prosecution counterparts, argue and haggle. Angel’s short life and brutal death will be reduced to a bartering chip, flipped back and forth across the table, as the legal teams devise some mutually-acceptable fate for the fallen Gods of Gotham Nightlife. In fact, there’s no alternative.
    "In the end," Fenton Bailey says, "that’s how the American justice system operates. It’s not about guilt or innocence. It’s all about cutting a deal.
    The Weekend Guardian - April 19 1997“

    Alig got through this without mentioning drugs. A drug deal gone bad. but no drugs mentioned. Nobody was high. "How did I chop him up? How I did I misjudge my strength? I was not on drugs, apparently." If a murderer can't get honest about his drug problem, then he won't be honest about the murder. Anyone who has truly quit ha been honest about their drugs, so, they can move on. I am just not seeing that with Alig. He at least owes that to his victim. Right now his story has too many holes.

    Lets put this into factual perspectives people. Crimes of passion like killing someone whos in the process of either trying to kill or rape you usually costs you life if not WAY more time than what Michael got. People who choose fast money life of crimes in inner cities such a drug related crimes as a means to survive get harsher sentences and more time. Even Jeffrey Damer didnt use such sinister brutality with his victims.

    Everyone's entitled to their opinion here, but I can say that no one has the right to judge anyone when they may not know exactly what they've gone through in their lives. It's not necessarily "don't judge a book by its cover" but more we have no right to judge because it's not our place to. Most likely none of us here in the comments knew Michael personally so we don't know what he was genuinely like. We don't know what was going on in his head and we don't know what kind of heart he had. Nor do we know 100% what his life was like. Not just during the time he lived in NY, but his whole life. So we have no right to judge when we don't know him, his friends or his family. Something bad may have happened to him in his childhood that led him down this path and this was the end result. I'm not condoning his actions, I'm just saying that some people's opinions are founded based on the hate they feel toward him based of what they've read or seen in documentaries or movies. IMO, that can heavily influence our opinions on people. I'd hope that everyone would take that into consideration, especially considering that he's no longer here to defend himself and so none of us will ever know who he really was at his core.
    RIP, Michael

He says several times that there is no justification for what they did...it seems that he knows what he did was horribly wrong and he's sorry that it happened. Not that it's an excuse but heavy drugs were a huge part of their life and people do senseless things when they're high. Murdzing is bad, but somebody would have died as well...and as a Tangent, Gitsy died, soon after this club land tragedy unfolded...her best friend, in prison indefinetly...

    He sounds truly sincere in showing remorse. I hope he is able to payback society by doing good works and being a good citizen. Blessings to Michael Alig.

    Drug dealers have this Tyrant-Dictative attitude frequently...I say he was justified...Would Melendez have killed Alig if Mike were @ the apartment alone ? @some point I would argue yes, Angel would have killed him anyway...mostly over a bruised ego.

    He is remorseful... and not to mention, he has to live with the fact and face what he did to angel every day. I am sure that, they will be keeping some type of eye on him. But lets think of something here people, there are murderist, rapists, and all other types of bad people that are let out of jail/prison every day. Hmmm good point hu? Also not to long ago they were talking about granting parole to charles Manson. I would bemore worried about that crazy killer than michael alig here. Im not saying what he did was not bad. Because indeed it was horrendous. But he will be judge!!!! I believe in judgements after your gone very much.
    I judt hope that he can keep his nose clean and stay out of trouble. But lets remember also the media is good at fictifizing stories. And they are so good at it, they could make even the nicest person look like a monster.
    This kid needs someone behind him that will smack him in the head and point him in the right direction if he begins to take the wrong road agsin. Here is hope to u michael, I have faith.
