Always a great pleasure to see you Martin and to listen to another fascinating episode about Rhodesian history. I am old, I am old-school Cornish, and as such I 'see things as they really are,' in regards to English foreign policy. Such a disgrace that Carrington and Thatcher, amongst others, reneged and allowed Rhodesia to become the sad place that is now Zimbabwe. My Cornwall is now a, 'Little England-on-sea'. A far cry from a very proud place that once respected it's Celtic history, ancestors and roots. Anyway Martin, keep dry and warm. Stay in peace.

Good to get back to the history. Your series on this is better than any history book, especially the modern nonsense that's written about Africa and colonization.
And like many of the other comments, I can only say that no matter how long you carry on for, you'll always have a good sized audience!

As an east european,an a well seasoned globe traveller,i was lucky enough to go to S Africa a few times(and some countries in Africa, including Angola,Ghana,Nigeria and others)- pity i saw her at this stage, after the sav**ges control it. They will turn it to dust, like it was before the Euros came.I am a huge admirer(fanatic quite) at the people who created those civilizations there, and i fell in love with Afrikaner accent. It's the coolest there is. All the Afrikaners i met, worked with, were top-shelf; Haven't met any Rhodesians, although i can say for sure they are at least the same level of amazing. One thing bugs me though, what does a Rhodesian accent sounds like? Is this gentleman having one?
Sounds like a Afrikaner-ish,to my untrained ears?!

Some books on Rhodesia are written by liberal or left wing academics who are biased against Rhodesians. On the other hand, some books on Rhodesia are written by people who are biased against South Africa and give the impression that Rhodesia had nothing in common with South Africa.

The only thing worse that a rainy day, is a hot rainy day. I’ll admit I’ve never been to Cape Town, so maybe the cold weather there really is unbearable. But I have lived in Alaska, and Alabama, and I must say that I prefer the former.

In my area we average 7 inches of rain a year which isn't much unless your the day we get it.
I spent time in Georgia as well as Washington state, California and Korea. I will take whatever rain I can get.

The Rhodesian Bush War of the 1960s and 70s was a re-run of the Matabele and Shona rebellions of 1896. Some of the blacks who joined ZANLA and ZIPRA would have grown up hearing their grandparents recall events from the rebellions and they likewise decided to fight against Rhodesia.

Was Rinderpest new to Africa at the time? That would have doubled up on the resentment, because they could easily correlate the new disease with the arrival of the BSA company, assume it was their doing, and connect it with the reparations and shootings.

Sadly this type of economy warfare was not confined to Africa as “they” did almost the same thing to the native Americans with the buffalo
