Ever wondered how much money to save in your emergency fund? In this video I'm sharing a couple of ways to figure out your number! Sound from Epidemic Sound
When I was calculating my one month fund it was a large number and I started to spiral lol. I decided to break it down by bill or expense first. So this way it was like okay I have one month of electricity, one month of water, etc. Before I knew it I had a full month emergency fund.
omg you're literally the only finance influencer who is providing a breakdown of an emergency fund that would best work for folks. Thank you for this, it's really helpful!
Like you said life is going to happen; it’s not if but when. Thank you for this video! I’ve been working an extra job to try and help tackle some debt + ER fund and this just helps me feel good about taking these steps while also knowing it’s a continuous journey.
For what you pay in rent you could have a house and it would be yours! I have rented in the past several different times and thought I could never afford to buy a house. I was wrong!! To qualify they see how much money you make, and your credit. You could find a cute house. Nothing too big bc then you would have an expensive mortgage. You don't have to put a down payment on the house unless you want to. If the house has been on the market for sale sometimes you can bid less than what the owners are asking ft.Something that would be comfortable for you and your kids. Look into it, it doesn't hurt to try. Look on the internet for houses in the location you would like to live.
I didn’t even ask to be here 😥 Why I gotta be the only one responsible for my life? 😂😂😂 But imma do what I gotta do. I definitely need a 2nd and maybe even 3rd source of income to get my emergency fund where it needs to be 😮💨.
Thank you for the video😄 I’m currently trying to fill my emergency fund but also going to soon start a month ahead binder. This is where I will be saving for one month of bills to start. I decided I wanted them separate.
I have a emergency fund and then a life crisis fund/ i contribute $50 weekly and will until I absolutely need it my emergency fund is my bulletproof vest for my crisis account, sick, something that drastically can change your life
I have just started my emergency fund. I was struggling with it for like 2 yrs because al got something where had to spend it. I decided to start it in a 32 day notice an literally start with like R5. That way I am no5 stressing about it and I can't access it so easily. It's not the only savings I have now just in case I do have an emergency but now I am at least accumulating something
A lot of people tell me why want you start driving your car and you know what I tell them? Why when I don't even have an emergency fund because an emergency fund is not $1,000 dollars anymore. When emergency fund was $1,000 that was way back in the 90s now this is 2024 an emergency fund now is $3,500. Why should I invest in car insurance when I haven't even invested in myself first. I also need to save for job loss Incase I loose my job there's a lot of savings I need to start saving for before I make another bill for me. I also need to build up my savings account too.
I'm not sure if you're religious (I think you've mentioned God a few times), but how do you navigate your faith in God and finding "security" in being financially stable? How do you avoid making money your idol?
Good question, what has helped me was seeing money as a tool. Nothing more nothing less. It is something I need to build a life that I feel aligns with my self-worth. I’m intentional about not doing something that doesn’t align with my values simply because of money. That includes jobs, videos, brand deals etc. When you set aside your morals and values for the sake of money that’s when the idolization begins. Keep these things at the forefront always. Hope this helps!❤
While I appreciate the effort, you have some huge flaws in there: 1. How will you - and your cat - eat? 2. How will you put fuel in that car? 3. Do you need to pay for medical expenses? 4. You are calculating a $1k emergency car repair EVERY month, same with the cat 😅 . Maybe revisit listing everything, including the food you and your kitty need every month, multiply by 3 and only then add in any liabilities. Adulting is hard - I’ve been at it for many decades and it still catches me out now and then - so well done on getting ahead of things so early.

Glad it was helpful!! I try to create in a way that’s actually useful
You’re not lying about the engine repair cost. I had to get my engine replaced and it would had cost me $6300 but I had a warranty on the engine.

Really great video. The only thing I would add for necessities would be groceries and gas (for the car). ❤
2 years of savings for me! had to dip into it for small roof repair!
This was such a good breakdown video, instead of the generic advice that is often provided, thank you!
I over did my emergency fund 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I got 6years saved up
You could NEVER over do an emergency fund!!! 😂😂 The more the better.
Wow that’s amazing and very smart 💯
I think $30k is a rule of thumb if you have a house or family not 3-6 months
My dog did swallowed a sock 2 days before my birthday …. And it costed $300 for his to just throw it up … there went my birthday sinking fund 😅

the way your whole tone & demeanor changed when you said "your home is a liability" & went into detail.. 😩
Chileeee I’m traumatized a little bit 😅
Thank you for all your help and direction, your an inspiration for the world, keep up the great work❤
Most people can barely pay rent. Sadly this just isn't feasible these days unless you make $150,000 annually and have multiple jobs.

Do you recommend having additional sinking funds outside of your emergency fund even if you have kinda padded your EF for liabilities?
I did a separate Sinking fund for my car
YES!! You can make the buffer amounts separate sinking funds
I have a emergency fund and then a life crisis fund/ i contribute $50 weekly and will until I absolutely need it my emergency fund is my bulletproof vest for my crisis account, sick, something that drastically can change your life
Food and gasoline are not on the list. Did I miss something ? 🤔
Okay so that actually works for me I was dreading getting back to the big 10k but it was feeling daunting in this economy
