  • In today's vlog Tim has his double hernia surgery, we start with the prep the day before and then head into surgery day. While Tim was having his procedure, we went to lunch nearby and then headed over to a park. Then it was time to pick him up. Tim talks about how his surgery went and how his recovery was for the first couple of days. Then he mostly just took very easy at home. Thank you for joining us today at home and we hope you had more fun than Tim did lol. Thank you for watching and we'll see you tomorrow with a new vid!

They told my husband he couldn’t leave the hospital in case he was needed .

Happy birthday, Tim! 🥳 I hope you’re having a fabulous day celebrating and feeling better enough to enjoy it. I had second-hand PTSD watching you drink the Magnesium Sulfate after seeing how much my parents LOATHED it every time they’ve had to drink it. But I’m glad the surgery went well, and all you can do is rest up and recover from here. I also never knew what pizza eggs were after watching you guys for the last few months, and I now decided that I need to make some for myself this weekend.

As a nurse, I was skeptical at the beginning of the video. I was thinking there’s no way that you’ll be in and out as fast as you think because recovery time is different for everyone and surgeries rarely ever begin on time. I was also thinking “poor Tim, he thinks he’s gonna eat right after.” I saw Tim driving to the surgery and was worried about who would drive him home after (since Jen doesn’t drive). Also, the only way to get rid of the “trapped gas” is to walk so your body can reabsorb it. This Vlog has me at the edge of my seat! I’m already commenting and I’m only 22 minutes in. I’m glad the surgery went well. Take care and don’t overdo it. Let your body heal 🙂

I’ve been plagued with stomach problems since I was 4 years old (it runs in my family), so I’ve had to do all the bowel prep stuff a bunch of times for colonoscopies and endoscopes throughout my life. Last time I did it was a few months ago in September, I barely ate and still hit the bathroom 17 times in 6 hours 😂. I have a Hiatal Hernia, IBS, GERD, etc. I hope your recovery is fast! Also, the breathing tube goes in your mouth and unfortunately your throat will be sore for a few days. Sometimes they put either an oral or nasal airway in (just a small tube a few inches long) after they extubate you if you’re still a bit sleepy. That could be why your nose is sore! Hope that helps 😊

Nice to know someone else went through the misery of having gallbladder surgery after a c-section. Mine was years ago and major surgery. It took me longer to recover from gallbladder removal than from either c-sections.

I'm sorry to hear that. Mine was an emergency so I couldn't wait. What was supposed to be out patient turned into a 5 day stay. Tim, congratulations on a successful surgery. It appears from the laparoscopic incision you showed it was inguinal hernia repair. The general anesthesia is the toughest part of the hospital experience. The hard part is not to strain or tear the repair until it heals. Keep hydrated and when you can, walk. Be leery of sneezes and coughing, rule of thumb cover with your hand the area of the repair if a sneeze is coming. Wishing you a expeditious recovery and just take your time for now.

Hi! I'm in nurse anesthesia school. Breathing tubes are standard for hernia repairs and more than likely they put the breathing tube in through your mouth. Your nose might feel weird just because oxygen will dry out your mucous membranes. They strap your arms down just to make sure your arms don't fall down off the narrow bed and cause a nerve injury. Anesthesia like propofol (sedation) and narcotics are likely to cause constipation. Hope you are recovering well!

I know just how ya feel post-surgery ... I just had an umbilical hernia surgery with mesh done on 4/12/22. The incision area is super sore, scratchy throat, and all that from the tube as well for me. took me about an hour as well for the procedure. The upside for me was I didn't have to drink that stuff the day before, I just was not allowed to eat or drink anything after midnight the day before.

I’ve had 4 c-sections & although they don’t put gas in your belly for that kind of surgery, after the last 3 I had this horrible pain in my shoulder each time & they told me it was trapped gas. It was AWFUL, but moving it around helped a lot. So if you get gas trapped in a weird spot, just try to move it around the best you can & that may create some relief.

For as much as medicine DOESN'T know, what they CAN do with what they DO know is amazing. And while you may not feel great now, compare the duration of your discomfort with all your days of comfort and fun. You can do this. Feel better soon, Tim. Ooo! It’s the 1st: HAPPY BIRFDAY!!!

I'm a control freak and I hate losing time and not knowing what went on so in my past surgeries the last thing I ask them before they give me the propofol is what time it is and then my first question when they wake me up is what time it is. I do wish you a speedy uneventful recovery. And a happy birthday to you.

So glad Tim made it through with flying colors! (I was concerned the prep might be like colonoscopy prep, thank goodness it wasn’t - but don’t be afraid of a colonoscopy folks, it’s so doable. The prep is yuck, whatever, but the thing itself is SO easy, everyone the right age should do it! They removed some polyps & I’m SO glad I did it!) Super thanks to Jen for the SW video, it was awesome & honestly worth staying up all night editing for! As you’re going, don’t watch OA’s vlog, but do watch it all later. As I’m not going, I’m devouring everyone’s vlogs, super fun 😄

When my daughter was Jackson’a age soda water was fuzzy water. I had hiatus hernia surgery several years ago, it is no joke. I feel your pain, took 8 weeks to feel even mildly normal.

Right before they put me to sleep in past surgeries I’ve always asked the doc to let me sleep long enough to ride space mountain twice. It’s always a good laugh. Glad your experience has been manageable and your on your way to a full recovery.
