  • Troubleshooting a walk-in freezer that was frozen up earlier in the week but needed more work can be time consuming off you don't know the history of the problems, unfortunately it went down over the weekend while I was on call. I had the displeasure of defrosting the system and the opportunity of returning a week later to do it again. I was able to locate what was causing the ice. I explain how the hot gas defrost system works, how to pump down a refrigeration system on the rack and how to clean the txv screens. Obviously there's times where you will have to pull the vacuum on the circuit but this was a time where speed and resealing the system while cleaning the screen worked in my favor to avoid that.

    I really enjoy watching your channel. I used to watch that HVAC/R Videos guy but all he dies is braze things and talk down to you. And then all his endless whining at the end of his videos. When I watch your videos there's an interesting variety of equipment that you work on, you explain how the systems work, and you show more than just brazing. Plus, I'm getting a real education watching you. I also love your sarcastic humor... it's great.
    Keep up the good work and I'll keep watching.

  • @thanktheknife
    @thanktheknife Před rokem +3

    So what was the main reason for ice buildup on that freezer room, was it due to starving from blocked screen, or improper defrost settings?
    PS: I use wet/dry vac to suck out blocked cases, works so much better than nitrogen 😊

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  Před rokem +2

      I'll try both but on a drain like that one I ended up having to hit it with about a thousand pounds plus a pressure. I don't recommend it but I don't use a regulator when I blow out lines. Defrost had been working for quite a while but I did raise it to 20 minutes and yes I believe the screen was the issue starving the TXV causing it to frost up more than normal. Plus the box never hit temperature as well as it could so it never got a off cycle.

  • @faintsmile3279
    @faintsmile3279 Před rokem +1

    Love your work man.
    we have pressure switches hooked up to condeser fans so in the winter we can reduce the condenser capacity as needed which is essentialy the same thing here with the solenoid valve i imagine.
    06:00 is this only done for lowering the pressure drop in the condenser because it will affect the txv or are there any other reasons at all?

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  Před rokem +3

      By closing it it'll reduce the size of the condenser which will raise your pressure keeping it more in line with the traditional pressures you would see when operating normally. Theoretically they had five fans that can cut out, and you can shut each one of those down but you're only going to be able to shut so many down, once that doesn't work then you cut the coil in half and you'll start turning fans back on which then allows you to run in even colder outside temperatures

    Really like the old grocery store calls. E2 is a great controller. Were moving away from them unfortunately so I have to learn the E3s. I swear this industry gets more annoying every year with all the new shit they come out with. Theres not enough time to get training on it and you're just forced to learn on the fly with little to no manufacturer support. Just ranting...

    • @HVACRSurvival
      @HVACRSurvival  Před rokem +1

      That actually was a E3 Head End. The interface is goofy, I hate the Danfoss controller away more, we picked up a couple new stores with them and they suck. I know what you mean learning on the fly is not my preferred way either👍👍
