- Early '80s CBC only more so(!) in this SCTV spoof featuring Hinterland Who's Who Woody, Howie McMeeker, Barbara Frump's failed interview with Col. Ghaddafi, and Canada Fact Ministry claims that Canada invented Thanksgiving and initially stood alone in the Pacific War. Oh, Canada!
- Komedie
SCTV so under appreciated. What a great show. In that period they were way funnier than Saturday Night Live and with a much smaller budget. Awful glad to find so many of these clips on YT.
You a) have to be of a certain age and b) from a certain place up north to fully get just how brilliant this is..SCTV was, is and will forever be THE high water mark in TV comedy...way better than those 'cheap punks' at SNL...#LaRue4Ever
Love the CBC control truck
it's still parked on Home St Winnipeg.
SCTV was a perfect storm. Low Budget Reality meets Low Budget Concept. They Nailed it!
I love Monday night curling...absolute classic....sweep....sweeeeeeepppp....
Here's the sad part. Though it really shouldn't be, curling is actually FUN to watch because of how they always overreact.
Some good ones but I'd like to see the promo for Magnum P.E.I. Candy plays a detective on Prince Edward Island and he's chasing a miscreant who robbed some potatoes. Candy cries out "Give them back. They're not yours!" Thanks for the upload.
Wearing a Hawaiian shirt
Here it is(!), DandyLion: czcams.com/video/IVcivvkBgmw/video.html
@@SC-sf8xt no, a PEI shirt. For like 2 days in July.
John Candy "Small Town Dick ' the best!
Had I seen this when it originally aired, I wouldn't have known what curling was. Now I know it's the best sport ever.
Competitive housework.
You're probably not from Canada but every small town in Canada has a Subway and a curling rink.
Did you know? Canadian football has four downs, not three. Canadians always punt on the third down, just to be safe.
It’s a Canadian 🇨🇦 fact!
Has a Hoser eh, I'm also an "affable snow creature" and I too hibernate in "snowy climes" lol !!!
Grew up on and loved this as a kid! Just remember to sweep, sweep, sweep!!!! Lol
The Howie Meeker parody is priceless! LMFAO!!!!
Bing Bang Bong the Pucks in the net what heck was that defenseman doing, I could have had a coffee and donut before he got back in the play. Ok were going to roll this one right through ok gord roll it ,,,,, roll it gord stop it STOP IT Right there look at that what heck is that guy doing he so out the play geez you can't play like that and expect to win geebers to g willikers
A terrestrial, day-active animal, the woodchuck hibernates in snowy climes.
“The woodchuck hibernates in snowy climes.” Climes is a word invented in Canada. Did you know that? It’s a Canadian fact. Canada is very proud of little things like that.
We had woodchucks in the New Jersey suburbs but it took the CBC to make me truly appreciate this noble animal. ;)
Hi Amy. Happy Easter from Toronto. I’m Tommy’s cousin - John. Had to comment when I saw your name & from New Jersey. Say hello to your folks.
Was that approved by CAN-FAX?
I was watching SCTV’s Headline Challenge, and they repeated that woodchuck thing, to make a point, when the narrator turned out to be the special mystery guest.
I want the old CBC "exploding cabbage" logo back...
Technically it's an "exploding pizza".
Thank you Canada, for standing all alone against the Empire of Japan for 24 hours.
Curling is not a joke.
As a Canadian...nailed it.
Someone should put the whole Canadian episode on one video - it's in bits and pieces
I have the american syndicated version on my channel !
I still need to know more about the woodchuck
their a terrestrial creature that hibernates in snowy climbs
Just contact the Parks and Recreation Ministry.
Like how much wood that a woodchuck could chop wood?
The woodchuck is found in open woods and ravines throughout most of Canada and the northeast United States.
Then please contact The Canadian Wildlife Association, Ottawa.
Loved Hinterland Who's Who as a kid !! And SCTV was way funnier then SNL !!
'It's a canadian fact!'
3:23 an accurate depiction of the journal if I ever did see one.
Hilarious. Used to live in Canada and remember Hinterland Who's Who. We called them groundhogs in Ontario, although they're actually a marmot.
Flaherty spoofing Dick Beddoes is awesome.
This was SCTV's best storyline in its Network 90 era: the spoof of NBC's picking up CFL games during the NFL strike in 1982.
THAT was the reference? Clever!
I actually like that woodchuck clip.
That shit is like3 crack, there rules about subliminal messages now days for a reason. The force doesn't work on the weak minded now days.
I've been called some things in my day, but only once an affable snow creature.
From 2007-2019, at Disney World at Epcot there was a Canada film hosted by Martin Short. During the film they show the “Sweep! Sweep!” clip. Always wondered where it came from haha
God, that makes me happy.
Love my country. Play the woodchuck bit at 50% speed, it's meditative
The best TV show has ever been told
Wow man !
This episode aired the year of the NFL strike when the CFL was broadcast on American TV...to much the same effect. I want to see the whole episode!!!!
rex mundi
It was hilarious. I saw this episode.
Rex: The CBC stuff was hilarious, and I am a US citizen. Especially "Front Page Challenge" (with a so-called popular Canadian actor as mystery guest---host saying to panel "we're low on time, so please take off your blindfolds....and we will continue the questioning.....")
I didn't know that this was the time of the 1982 NFL strike. I do recall NBC putting on CFL to try to placate us! And....in the CFL, they punt on 3rd down "just to be safe." It's a Canadian fact!
@@christopherdunne7848 While CBS during that NFL strike aired some NCAA Division III games, one of them called by Pat Summerall and John Madden.
@@christopherdunne7848 "you say that you are a FAMOUS Canadian actor?" I'll have to pass.
The P is silent!
I like how two of the curling announcers are named Gord...
I have never seen this before. Fabulous!
I didn't think suit jackets could be THAT orange!
Oh they were on the CBC back in the 80s and the exploding pineapple CBC used classic TV
John Candy narrated the Hinterland sounds like
He did!
He appeared later in that episode as Morley Markle (a “popular Canadian actor”) on SCTV’s “Headline Challenge”. The exact same woodchuck PSA was repeated during “Challenge” as a hint to who will be the upcoming guest.
I love these animals shows.
Never noticed until now they Park in front of a Fire Hydrant!
Loved the scene where Khadaafi says to Barbara Frump, "NOT NOW!! I'M TALKING TO TED KOPPEL!!!", then the CBC logo pops up. LOL 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
woodchucks are canucks? WTF!
Loved the Canadian Fact about Pearl Harbor =)
If a Canadian delivered pizza to the White House then Canada was deemed critical to American foreign policy.
And remember that Canada had the first Thanksgiving before the US, because it’s celebrated one month earlier.
Every Saturday early mornings we used to go out to various farmer's properties and plunk groundhogs for a $25 bounty per ground hog. Standing rules were no shots were taken under 250 yards and only one shot per shooter per groundhog. It was easy money!!!! Fun too!!!!!!
1:34 Mocking ABC Sports’ closing spiel of the time (“This has been a presentation of ABC Sports: Recognized around the world as the leader in sports television”)
What, no talk of hockey?
Nice change, eh.
When you don't overact, like today's comedy, it is just that much better.
I love the part where the SCTV announcer intros The Journal from the CBC on SCTV storyline. Does anyone know who this announcer is?
This was the good ol days, 40 years ago, when the CBC was just a boring network and not the boring screeching social justice network they are now.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
During the strike, Why didn't SCTV run programming from CCCP 1 or even CCCP 2 ???
No time for 3 cp2 jokes
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
How much can a woodchuck chuck if the woodchuck is chucking wood?
Only the Ministry of Parks and Recreation knows.
He'd chuck all the wood that a wood chuck could if a wood chuck could chuck wood #chuck chuck
It's a fact!
Once again another creative way to beat a deadline by recycling old crap with a new premise.
I do this every day. My pay is the same.
Too much great info about this one
Hey now...
“...Bramalea will take the game!!!”
We invented Thanksgiving!!! Lol
this was a funny skit
Makes me notice how boring the actual CBC can be.
Boring for some but Zen for those who want to ascend past the world model of flashy mediocrity. AND BLAH BLEH BLAH OK THANKS
This reminds me of the time I saw a woodchuck when I was driving from Niagara on the Lake to Niagara Falls. It was standing in some grass by the side of the road. Went to Red Lobster that night and had the Surf & Turf. It was mostly good but they were out of sea scallops so they gave me extra Red Shrimp. For more information about my life story send me a DM and I'll try to get back to you within 2-3 weeks.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The P is silent!
😂😂😂its a fact
Can Facts? In the 70s it would be more likely they'd have called it... Facts Canada.
This is like barely a parody.
CAN - FAX
CAN FAX
CBC today would only show a female woodchuck of colour.
No more like a Transgender one with it holding a rainbow flag
I'm Canadian and don't understand the "humour" in this segment.
This video is fairly old so it's depicting the CBC from the 1980s (kinda different from today's CBC) which honestly was quite similar to this joke.
@@Henry-W-Schlemmer Pfeiffer's the beer with the silent p!
Hamsterfish...Screw you!!! By the way, my new handle is Still alive...thx.
