Awe back when we were just a bunch of adorable little skater punks. I saw these guys at Tooth and Nail's "Suburbia 2" show in 1998 when I was 21. I have to admit I had already tired of this genre and felt I had outgrown it. But these were fun times and these bands sound a heck of a lot better than what passes for "pop-punk" these days.
Got to see the original lineup of Slick Shoes once. I think their lead singer was 16 years old at the time. Was a packed house since I don't believe they got to tour outside of Cali that often.
mxpx slick shoes and squad 5-0 were like the definition of my junior high and early highschool years, then I got into stuff like bad religion and 88 fingers louie, but I still listen to pop punk to this day, New Found Glory I think will forever be one of my fave bands.
They went a little less skate and more pop after the first album, but still good. Probably the most underrated drummer ever. If the strings never showed up he could still carry the band
Not really man. mxpx and slick shoes have been around for about the same time. slick shoes used tour with mxpx all the time they liked them but i dont think they had any influence from them. there both rad bands how bout we leave it at that haha
So what if you don't like me? Underneath our skin we still bleed. I can deal with your sarcasm. It takes more than that to put me under your thumb. You think I'll follow you down. I'm not as dumb as you think. You think I'll follow you down. You'll never see me break. You must think that you are better. Just accept that we are all the same. What do I do to make you hate me? It doesn't matter, I'll turn the other cheek. I'm not as dumb as you think. I won't make the same mistakes you have. Feeble minded, black hearted. Your widened mouth and simple ideals.
If you didn't know they were a Christian band when listening, you know after getting a look at that lead singer lmao Are they still pro-jesus these days, or more like Mike Herrera?
slickshoes in my heart!. they were a huge influence to my highschool era circa 2003-2006. salute you from jakarta indonesia!

2024, and still holding up...well done fellas
My childhood into tween years are defined by this music scene. I'll literally never forget this song.
Got to see the original lineup of Slick Shoes once. I think their lead singer was 16 years old at the time. Was a packed house since I don't believe they got to tour outside of Cali that often.
I used to listen to them all the time. The cd with the blue flames was one of my firsts. Then I got MXPX and thought I had the same band, but better.
Man... This video takes me back. Probably saw these guys like 20+ times at chain reaction in Anaheim back in the day. Fun shows.

Also, another amazing Christian band is Dogwood - well worth some cringy lyrics for how amazing a band they are!
@@diminisheduk As an atheist I can second that Dogwood is one of the best melodic punk bands ever,

Good ol Lancaster
Their singer was only like 13 or 14 when they made this, wasn't he?
I think 14 when their debut EP came out, 15 for this album. He was super young either way.
@@DanPantzigHow old is he now?
According to basic math he'd be 37.
@@DanPantzig I know Im lazy, thanks. Hes still young.
Dan Pantzig! He sounds older
this song is so fucking punk rock from scratch 7823

My plague - slipknot
This is contemporary with MXPX and other early west coast pop punk bands. The genre didn't start with MXPX.

So what? You don't mind me.
Good stuff!
Slipknot's My Plague riff sounds like a rip-off of this intro!
Who's to say it couldn't have been an influence? Lol
If you didn't know they were a Christian band when listening, you know after getting a look at that lead singer lmao
Are they still pro-jesus these days, or more like Mike Herrera?
Suburbia at its best
