To help the bottom line, maybe you could sell the rocks from the field. Welker Rocks! And have a limited selection of Welker autographed Rocks. They could come with a certificate of authentication that they were authentic Welker Farm Rocks. Customer would pay all shipping and handling fees.

I feel Very sorry for your loss in the 2021 harvest. I have the utmost respect for farmer's. Here where I live in eastern Canada in a province ( state in USA) of Prince Edward Island . I have family that harvest Potatos 🥔 every year ( up to 5000 acres on many farms) and many years there crop is bad ,and sometimes there crop has to spread on the land ( Potatos got rotten) with a tractor with snowblower.
    BUT THEY LOVE FARMING.
    I KNOW YOU DO TOO..
GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. HOPE FOR THE BEST IN 2022..

Now you should get some winter wheat planted . We have grown barley before it actually grows decent in our area . The problem is that there isn't much of a market for barley here in Michigan. I'm glad that you guys stayed positive and upbeat about the low yields even though it was stressful. Keep up the good work !

Hi Guys. Its almost a miracle you can recover any yield at all. Down here in New Zealand near Darfield we are struggling with a wet winter. In late May we had 16" in two days. Seed potatoes couldn't be lifted and now the spring wheat is six weeks late getting in. Fortunately we have great irrigation so although it might be late, it should fill ok. The challenge will be at harvest as we have no dryers on the farm. They are the top priority now and it is possible one may go in over the summer.

Lots of people will enjoy seeing your combine at the farm post show. Long haul for the trucker. Neat to have it at the show.
You have a huge problem with rocks. I understand that it is the way the ground is on your area. Some of those rocks you show us are really good sized. I can see where they would do a lot of damage to the inside of the combine. Wish there was some way to fix that problem for you but I am not aware of any fixes other than catching sight of them. Wow. I am central Iowa and our rock threat is very low. Not many here.
About it for now. Appreciate you taking us along. Dad and Scott enjoy the progress show and Nick you welcome a new baby into the family.

1 bushel Kochia, 1 granite and 8 bushel of barley. I feel so bad for you folks. We had the same experience on the other side of West Butte (Sweetgrass Hills) in 83. Dried out, hailed out 100%. Reroofed buildings and picked rock with pitch forks (too hot to pick by hand) all summer long. Tons of dry lightning fires that year as well.
Looking pretty darn nice for a good Winter Wheat start though.

Good luck for next year and the many years after. Eventually the weed seed will fade away, you just need the rainfall and chemistry to make it so. Over here in Lancashire, it's been really dry for a while, not been up to the lake District but guess water levels are not as good as could be. Doubt what rain we had last night actually counted. I am used to rain but it's been a while since we had a decent downpour.

@Welker Farms those weeds seem to be an issue world wide (over here we call it Fire Weed) it always seems to be resistant to all chemicals. but dies well enough when pulled out and stored in chaff bags until it can be burnt. Though your kids are a little too young, at this stage, but when they are older and muck up enough to need punishment, send them to the field with an empty chaff bag and tell them to fill it with the weeds you will end up with less of them over the years :)

Kochia - obviously the spray first. (as mentioned below ) The Case 8230 combine harvester can have the 'Seed Terminator' unit (australia) fitted to it so during crop harvesting the weed seed and chaff exiting the rear of the combine are pulverized. If there is a large bio-mass of standing weeds that have not been cut, spray then (e.g the stand of kochia etc the Canadian farmer had grown) Borrow an old windrower like the case wdx 1202 or tractor and no-conditioner mower case-ih TD103 10foot (macdon R1 16 foot) mow the weeds into a windrow (before the weed seeds are ripe)and pickup with a case-ih magnum and a forage loader wagon (e.g Strautmann, Pottinger, Krone, Schuitemaker etc) preferably( or baler capable of baling corn stover type material). Pile and fire burn the weeds. (Could use a NH FR forager with a rockstopper detector & direct-cut crop head and load the old Ford Trucks with silage boxes on them for removing bulk weeds.)

I feel your pain with short crops, green weeds and rocks. That seems to be a global problem from time to time. If they were my pea stubbles and summer weeds I’d have a couple of thousand lambs on them as the last truck rolled out. We would easily put five lambs to the Hectare on that and put $100 Australian per head onto the lambs. I’ve tried the all crop thing but was going to go broke and as we are a non subsidised nation something had to give, so back to a hole lot of livestock.🇦🇺👍

  • @somersfarm1921
    @somersfarm1921 Před 2 lety +2

Yeah, thats a tough call to make about those weeds, especially in a bad yr due to drought. Plowing takes fuel, spraying cost isn't cheap. Being dry using a sub soil ripper would be ideal to break up any compaction, but that don't really solve the weed issue. Disking would cut up the weeds, and wouldn't take near as much fuel as a moldboard plow, or using a disk ripper. I've been saying for years, that continuous no-till and chemical use constantly would cause super weeds, that won't die easily. But we can do that here in the Midwest, due to our soil types, where its not ideal for y'all out in Montana, due to the lack of top soil and lack of rain.
That piece looks like a vain or some call it a fin in the cone of the rotor. I had one partially break on me 1 yr, it was the first one inside the cone, so it wasn't difficult to get to, too fix, but it broke with just about 4 acres of corn to shell, and had to have someone come out and finish those last couple acres because rain was coming. Luckily as soon as I heard a clicking sound, I shut things down, before it broke completely off and went thru the combine.

As much as you guys make and fabricate things, one would think that each combine would have a couple of large metal boxes attached to each combine. That way when the operator comes across a rock that is in the header or one that they can pick up off the ground, they could take it right off the field.

Have you ever tried valor in the fall? Does a very good job on most broadleaves. Can get generic thru FBN for 3.50 per acre

What does the canola look like? Does it have the potential of 10 or 20 bushels to the acre? 🧐👀🤔

I usually don't like music videos of this sort, but this time right around 4:30 + it got me good... The amount of chills... Epic!! Music on there with the video, it is just beyond.. its epic level movie shit!
I am not even an American, nor that in to red, but the view with stars and stripes flying with one of the most American machine there is - the IH red one, on that scenery... Oh my.. i think one should be dead not to get any vibes.. fellow farmer another side of the world lifts hat! Right kind of proud and patriotism too here, 100%.
Also, Scott.. you lucky bastard! :D Your wife.. she really is a keeper, one of the millions. All the best to you and your family!
