    I always liked the attention to detail on the hybrid forms, Michael was a lycan first, so his form is more wolf like, whereas Marcus was a vampire first, so his form is more bat like

    You know, if there is one thing I was really disappointed with in this movie, it was how William died. It's pretty obvious that Marcus's plan was to turn William into a Hybrid like himself, that way it would eliminate his plague like werewolf strain while also enabling him to gain more control over himself, becoming a hybrid similar to Micheal, who despite being very animalistic, is still capable of thought and reason.
    How cool would it have been to see William turn into a more intelligent creature and prove more of a match for micheal.

      If Marcus could contain William enough to make that possible. But William is far too feral he could wind up betraying Marcus. Even if he were to be turned into a hybrid William could still have hidden agendas of his own.

    To be fair Michael is an incomplete super weapon. He was supposed to be made from Lucien's and Amelia's blood; elders from their respective races. He ended up only getting half of that equation and missed out on Elder Vampire blood. That said it doesn't really explain why Marcus is such an impossibly powerful regenerator in comparison. Unless it's based entirely on his age.

    • @thefanwithoutaface8105
      @thefanwithoutaface8105 Před 14 dny

      Marcus is the original Vampire, meaning his blood is stronger than Amelia's and also stronger than Lucien. While Lucien was the first Lycan, he wasn't the first Werewolf. THat was William.

    17:22 , to add to the weirdness. michael sheen (lucian) and kate (selene) were long time domestic partners who even had a child together 3 years before underworld was made. so, they were a couple for years, had a kid, broke up and then 2 years later are in a movie where they are trying to kill eachother most of the movie... wow, i wonder how that casting call back went.

    Wait, so Marcus is the first vampire, meaning that every other vampire owes their existence to him, and also depend on him for their survival (or so they believed)...then Why The Heck Isn't He The One In Charge?!
    Something must have gone seriously wrong for him to basically be "vampire Adam", and still wind up as someone else's bitch! O.o

      I was so confused by that plot point too. Like, yesh I understand Viktor has William and this Marcus didn't want to risk his brother's safety but, every vampire sided with this?? EVERYONE??
      Not one of the vamps Marcus sired thought it would be a bad idea to go against their creator? Or even felt like Viktor deserved death for going against their creator? Like I have a hard time buying Viktor held more power over Marcus THAT much to the point he couldn't turn the others on Viktor for this.
      The guards holding William might have been sired by Viktor and thus, owe more to him but than I still find one plot hole...
      The elders leap forging through time. Two asleep, one awake every thousand years or so. How da duck did Marcus NOT kill Viktor when he was awake and the other two were sleeping? Yet Viktors body in the sun and poof! Problem solved.

    I LOVE your thorough reviews! I've been once again binging through whole series'. I just thought I'd offer one alternate perspective. I never had trouble with Viktor (because cool vampires only spell their names with K's) believing Markus' lie that killing the source kills all the infected. First, when Viktor was turned, there was no science and this explanation made as much sense as any. Over time, it is logical that it would become more of a belief than a hypothesis. Second, Viktor prioritizes himself over all else. Even if there is a 0.01% chance that Markus could be right, Viktor would refuse to take that risk to his own life.

    Its such a shame that with each film more and more of the setting is removed, the first film we loes two coven leaders and what you have to guess is most of the command structures of the vampires and the same for the werewolfs, the second film we loes tanus (a character that could have been really interesting) marcus completely destroys the main coven and what you have to think is at least 1/3 of the vampires on the planet if not a lot more we also loes Alexander corvinus who could be a super intresting character, i mean an Immortal that has never gone into hibernation think of the stuff he will have seen (even if he did a terrible job of hiding vampires just ask bram stoker) and we also loes marcus and William meaning the vampires now have now leaders, the setting is desamated (and i mean that in the real meaning aka 1in10) but its all the intresting parts that have been taken out.

    • @Khenfu_Cake
      @Khenfu_Cake Před 7 měsíci

      I guess it depends on the specific lore. But in most stories that have vampires only be able to ingest blood normal food is not particularly toxic to them, they just cannot digest it.
      So they end up throwing it up, which probably isn't the most pleasant experience.

    • @thefanwithoutaface8105

      Vampires bodies are designed to survive off blood so it makes sense. It doesn't make sense while Micheal can't survive on normal food. We're told he's supposed to be stronger than both creatures, meaning all of their biggest weaknesses should be moot, which seemingly is the case as Micheal can survive silver and sunlight, but making it that he needs blood to survive is pretty weak.

    2 possibilities for the 'blood memories' thing.
    1: It only works when they drink the blood of vampires or lycans, i.e. blood containing the virus, and it has to do with the interaction of the virus.
    2: Yes, it happens with everyone, and the vampires are getting overwhelmed by it, which is why they've developed artificial blood that doesn't *have* any memories to transfer.

      @@fightingmedialounge519 Good point. I think that would come under the first possibility, since the virus is transmitted through bites. If I recall, Michael only started seeing the memories after he'd started to fully change (and got sedated to control him). At that point, he could be considered a full Lycan, rather than simply infected.

    A super easy fix for William being in the shape he is would have simply been for this prison of his to be supernatural, and to essentially keep him in a form of statis. Or for such a powerful Lycan to be unable to starve but instead just falls into an eternal coma/slumber once they get famished enough. Anything could have worked really and wouldn't have required any additional money or scenes to explain.

    Rewatching this, I'm reminded of the issue I have with the entire motivation around Marcus. At literally no point in his plan did he *need* to be a super aggro bad guy. Literally all of his objectives could have been accomplished either through diplomacy or stealth, things vampires are RENOWNED for being good at. He could have gone through with his entire plan, and even had people believing he was just a goody-two-shoes the entire time. But no. Slaughter everyone, and give people a reason to resist your plans.
    Also, I will give them credit for sticking to the shitty plot point of killing the dude responsible for hiding their shit. That actually comes to have real, legitimate consequences for both sides, not even that long after it happens. Which I mean, kinda cool that they show how dumb that move was on Marcus' part.

    I always wondered how Marcus knows how to use a computer. Victor's line in Underworld about leap-frogging thru time, leads me to believe the elders hibernate for decades, if not centuries. Even if its decades, there's no reason he should be able to understand computers.
    If the movie takes place in the mid-2000s, even the primitive version of that kind of technology is no more than 30 years old. It just seems silly for the elders to sleep for such a short period of time

    • @Khenfu_Cake
      @Khenfu_Cake Před 7 měsíci

      They definitely sleep for at least a century. Craven told Victor that he was awoken a century too early (Amelia was supposed to wake up Markus and she would go to sleep).
      I assume the other elder would catch them up to speed via the memory transfer. Including on important new technology.
      Of course none of this is relevant for Markus since he was awakened by a random dead lycan who definitely didn't arrange his thoughts and memories to make them coherent for Markus.
      Indeed; the first movie made a point about memory transfer being difficult to do properly without experience and yet Markus is just sucking up people's memories, knowing exactly which ones to look for, without issue.

    Having Selene's father be the one who built William's prison opens up at least one nasty plot hole, or at least makes this unnecessarily complicated. Let me explain:
    So, Viktor killed Selene's family to keep the location of William's prison a secret. But from the flashbacks, it looks like Selene was a child when her father worked for Viktor, but an adult when Viktor turned her. Why did he wait so long? It's not like he was ever hesitant to kill someone if he felt it was necessary.
    Plus, there's all the complications with the timeline in the prequel, like that Selene had to have been alive at that time, otherwise there's no way they could have had the necklace to make William's prison in the first place.
    And the real problem is that there's a really, really simple solution to this - have Tanis be the one to tell Selene and Michael where William is. There's no reason for Selene to have a personal connection to all this.

And in the first movie, she said the vampire-lycan war had been going on for almost a millennium - so was that the war against Lucian and his lycans, or just werewolves in general? And if Viktor killed Selene's family shortly after the events in the prequel, then where the hell is Kraven? (Side-note: I'm kind of surprised you didn't point out the pun in "Kraven", but I guess it's a bit too obvious.)
      And to think, all these issues came up because of the *good* movies.

      Also, Viktor's daughter seems to have the necklace already when she dies. (Both in flashback and prequel.) If Sonja has the necklace in the prequel when she is a child does this mean that Selene and Sonja were born at the same time? If so, why did Viktor give half of the lock to William's "tomb" to his daughter? Ok, she was a vampire, but still a child. What if she loses it? One would think that Viktor would like to keep the necklace safe...Couldn't an adult protect the necklace better? I mean he could have had this "You are of age now and part of the council, you shall have this necklace now, as a token of my trust." thing instead. Was the necklace made to lock and open William's prison? Or did Viktor have the necklace at home and already and he just wanted the mechanism made in a way that would fit the necklace? For some reason...

    before the end of the first film it's possible the vampires had used their connections and money to make micheals story force him to look like the bad guy to make it harder for him t hide, this of course might have worked if selene didn't pop in and start helping him and so and so forth, not to mention, even IF that hasn't happened, the man's been missing for some time and i've no doubt some evidence of violence and death has been left behind by the events in the first movie and since them, meaning their is a possibility that the news has told people he may be dangerous, and he police are being cautious, maybe a little over zealous, but given how some cops over react in real life situations because they wanna be 100 percent cautious about how dangerous someone could be, it wouldn't be unusual for the police to ac this way towards micheal, wether he was kidnapped or not, he's been avoiding the police and legal authority for some time and therefore could bring up suspicion about his danger, of course, i also mixed up will and mark with rom and rem of roman myth earlier on one of the other videos, so, take everything i say with a grain of salt i suppose

He may have dicovered it & wondered what it was & what it meant so Lucien went to find answers alone. He runs into Tanis who by this time was exciled by Selene. He shows Tanis the necklace & wants answers since it belonged to his dead love Sonya. Tanis tells him the tale so Lucien offers to give Tanis protection against Tanis's bretheren as for the Lycan bodyguards Tanis may have aquired them after Lucien left. Lucien goes to wear William is held he senses him as I'm sure William senses Lucien. Lucien thinks hard & realizes William needs to be kept locked up or the world will indeed drown in lycans so Lucien leaves but decides to keep the secret to himself.

    Interesting. And after
    This many years, centuries, William could have been interesting. Hell, since Lucian was able to kick the silver bullets out and he was unique in his nature, Bringing Lucian back, or showing that he hadn't actually died. The
    Crap of incoherence of this story might have been nicely managed by William escaping in the various disasters and coming face to face with Lucian. Lucian held control over the other crazy Lyman's. Seeing this born Lycan could have had a profound impact upon William, maybe even allowing his mind to be functional as it hadn't been for centuries. This would allow William to be a usable character and Lucian not only not dead, but also vital for the continuation of the Lycans existence as opposed to the crap they continued with Underworld 3. It would have been more interesting than the contrived crap of the end of 1 the whole of 2 and 3. What is it with choosing stories to be shit rather than rich with complex growth. Lazy, relying on guns and fetish Ware. Tiresome.

    Regarding the BS about the first lycan coming out of his 600-year prison like nothing happened: What's sad is that the writers already had an interesting idea in their back pocket if they had even bothered to look.
    You know how the head vampires kept themselves in those chambers for centuries looking all mummified? They could have had it so this was the lycan version of it! Hell! They could have made it the very first one of its kind!
    It would make a lot of sense, too! Not only would this have been made by the vampires, obviously, but it would make sense to put a super strong werewolf in suspended animation since he's in a 600-year-old stone prison with no guards or even a regular maintenance staff.
    And not forgetting those who come out of that suspended animation required gallons of blood to literally rehydrate themselves (for vampires, anyway), you could have it be the same for the lycan, if with a different food source.
    In fact, have the "food source" be Michael! Have it where learning about the hybrid is Markus' call to action. After so many centuries, there is at last hope for him to free his brother from his prison while also restoring his humanity. However, the amount of meat/blood that would be required to restore his brother would kill Michael. Furthermore, there's an equal chance that it may turn his brother into an even worse abomination that would allow him to create other feral lycans from not just people, but vampires and other lycans as well. Feral lycans that are immune to both silver and sunlight.
    The chances of whether it'll indeed help Markus' brother or doom the world is 50/50 with it killing Michael a 100%. Setting up a villain arc where Markus is too blinded by his love for his brother, resentment for his father, and his own guilt & regret to listen to anyone, following blind hope!
    This way you continue to build on top of the plot from the previous movie (if indirectly), you give Markus a compelling motivation, up the anti with the real global threat, and adding some personal stakes for Celine!

Pretty sure he just wanted to collect what memories and incite he could from her blood plus that medallion thing and then go off on his merry-way (Which would not have been that difficult considering she just let Michael drink some of her blood, like seconds before Markus shows up, also she has no reason at all to want that medallion). Actually this kind of falls apart because it's not really suggested that Marcus gets Elder Werewolf blood even though he's an Elder Vampire. So technically by that level. They should be pretty equal so what it ends up being is a matter of experience and age being in the favor of Marcus. The fight at the Monastary where Michael easily dispatches the physically powerful werewolves shows that Michael himself is not weak. Marcus simply has had a lot more time to become better and understand the potentiality of his powers a lot more clearly.

Yet the key, we knew... was to locate the rarest of bloodlines... a direct descendant of Alexander Corvinus” and “ his body was able to change the disease... mold it to his benefit” so Selene got Alexander’s ability to remove the negative side affects of the virus E.G sunlight, and Marcus because he already had both the vampire traits and pure corvinus blood, when werewolf blood was introduced a hybrid he became.
