“I can sense it. His panics. Feel like I’m battling Cortez.”
I’m so glad Illmac made that point about references just for the sake of references. I’ve been thinking that for so long and someone else finally said it! Lol. The thing is, Lux is USUALLY really good at tying all his points together. But it didn’t show as much in this battle. I think the best example of Lux keeping his wordplay concise was against Clips. All three of those rounds built on each other concluding with the paperwork shit
Yes bro, and people sleep on lux’s performance against clips so much and will say shit like “lux hasn’t been good since the hollow battle”. Like I’ll admit I don’t care for him against ars or mook but he had classic rounds against verb clips and surf
@@strangekitchenappliances2314 his Clips battle is one of my favorites honestly
Illmac & lush are white men trying to downplay New York battle rap.
@@LetterBeginningillmac is not even white you doofus
This show is amazing. Makes the battles way more enjoyable. Love hearing the break downs from legends. Salute !
This was a great watch. Will watch again..
that breakdown from Lush at around 2:13:00 was beautiful, more people need to hear it.
Thanks for that timestamp, was cool to jump right into mans bringing planet rock vs canon in d major :)
That breakdown was trash.
Really dug this breakdown of how different Lux and Geechi are.
Lush going into hiding behind "tricks" was a really solid gem. Skill varies in battle rap but efficiency is that true mark.
Lush is a simpleton, simple.
Dope to see geechis evolution. From the old watch videos to now.
Inspirational ⭐️
His old videos was killer though lol
Ya'll skipped it but Lux unleashes in this sequence: "I want you to see how I'm comin across like a flood warning advisory notice... you already dead to be knowledge opposin... ya'll got to wake up, he boppin to loaded, you might not get this event till later, like every bed in the hospital Covid." But there's a discipline to his energy, doesn't fire away, but it's definitely raw.
That's not good writing.

Lux’s material In the second was dope as hell. Those stumbles, while slight, add up tho. It took all the momentum away.
Not really because it was at the end of the round,it was like math when he battled geechi stumbled at the end of his second but it was at the end
@@LanceG007 I’m of the opinion that it really doesn’t matter if it was at the beginning, middle, or the end. The momentum is taken away all the same. I could argue that it’s WORSE to stumble at the end for that very reason. You could stumble in the beginning but if you get it back and stick the landing you get recovery points more often than not. Imagine if Lux got thru those same schemes and patterns without the stumbles and how much doper it would be. It matters
But it was at the end and to me Lux had it by then
He full on choked, it’s edited

Love the Watch series! Keep grinding Kyle!
Damn, as I’m rewatching all of these RYD episodes, it’s really an entertaining and intriguing examination of battle rap as a whole. Love it, thanks again 🥑 As for this battle - This LONG BEACH crowd was amazing. They were truly listening to both emcees.
They were. I cant even trip on the gas station, for that very reason.
Geechi the best one dimensional battle rapper of all time, respectfully
Nah, that's Bigg K. Bigg K and guns go together like chicken and hot sauce lmao.

@@kaydub5.034 He's far nicer.
Nah he used to be but think he angle rebuttal he’s funny ash n he punch n talk real shit n a lot of people don’t do 2 of those things great plus sense 2020 geechi approaches for battles are amazing like as in subject matter because he’s proving you can win off of material n perception instead just just gun bar gun bar gun bar n punches he’s like super direct because geechi is no where near the best puncher but his material he’s punching about is super direct it makes people look weird if the round after his tho don’t address what he spoke on id say geechi is the greatest Battle rapper to have a basic pen when it comes to metaphors and similes a double and triple entendres cause if his punches was k shine or even Charlie clips level geechi would be almost unbeatable because he does do long set ups like geechi vs Ave n geechi vs k shine n him vs O red n surf are battles where his pen matched his opponent but now he’s better at everything except his actual punches
😂
Great commentary, respect to Illmac and Avo!
“Gilgamesh vs Ice Cube” is hillllllllarious Lush.
The break down of this battle from these two makes for one of the most quality watch’s I’ve seen so far.
Yes absofuckingloutley
He started singing the Gullah Gullah island theme song Lmaoooooo
Sidebar : Lux was very choppy this battle but his material was RIDICULOUS
And to add to this soon as he sung the song I immediately envisioned the family singing it, melody n all!memories 😂
@@mike_datzmag1c21 Lmao me too

I believe in my opinion, Lux was reacting to the unreached. The crowd wasn't reacting the way he thought they should. Because he was clearly saying some intricate lines and bars. But because of no reaction from the crowd, as he believe he should get or receive. I see where his emotions get in and he pauses. Which takes away from the performance and battle.
I don't think it was choppy. I think he was getting mad at the crowd
one of my favorite battles of recent memory. geechi always doing his damn thang. always a good watch when you got lush and ill as guests too fr
Subjectivity in battle rap is so dynamic…I watched this live and found Lux’s rounds and performance so much more captivating and was completely surprised when the general consensus after was that Geechi had a clear 30.
I still don’t see it that clear. I ain’t mad at Geechi 2-1 debatable but it really comes down to preference. 3-0 is a stretch for me cuz I prefer Lux material especially in the 1st … no denying that Geechi was more prepared and wanted it more, but if Lux hadn’t choked it’d be 2-1 either way.
I don't think the consensus is a 30. Outside of a few battle rappers (Daylyt, Dizaster, some others) and a group of really loud fans who commented on every video covering the topic, most of the people I've seen speak on it said Lux got the first and Geechi got the other two. Shit, most of my friends off the internet who watch battle rap said it was 2-1 Geechi as well. The 3-0 thing is all narrative.
I admit, I prefer Lux's rounds here too
ITS INSANE, LUX IS THE THINKING MAN’S BATTLER, I want to put it short
@@khaledalmerbati9570 I’m a big Hollow fan, but when that battle dropped I was like “that Lux doesn’t really say anything angle was a bad decision.” Lux really does go over heads. And this watch is gonna be mad biased. Geechi is their man on Watch and he’s a west coast dude. In the building and on RYD Geechi was getting GASSED. Lux really is complex, and people try to frame that as a weakness. It’s not.
Illmac just locking in and singing the gullah gullah island intro was 🔥🔥🔥 😂
Arguably the most incredible breakdowns I've ever seen on this channel . One of my favorite panels. But i do LOVE Geechi on the panel as well he's freaking hilarious

If you think Lux lost bc of the feel leave it at that, but don’t say he lost if you don’t understand everything his angles were about
Which rounds u give lux??
These rappers where biased they all from the West...Im definitely not saying Lux won but I can tell
@@mylestonah_kruezeeznk82141st 2 but the 1st debateable
Geechi 2nd talkin bout battle rappers getting paid more now didn’t hit for me bc Lux vs Calico a big reason battle rappers even started making more money Hollows round vs Lux was about Lux bein greedy making the contracts raise and Lux still be gettin bags today and Geechi didn’t have no bars in that round compared to Lux it jus hit bc he’s n la and was talkin money shit which makes sense in the arena but you break it down it ain’t a strong enough angle to have no bars w it
lux got 40k for arsonal in 2014. 8 years later it takes drake and caffeine for geechi to get that. That angle wasnt fire to me. If it wasnt ppl like lux pushing the boundaries of getting paid back then battlers like geechi wouldnt be gettting what theyre getting now
Lux got 75k for that battle because that’s how much Ars was gonna pay Mook
Exactly
I also did feel Geechi’s 2nd round it was not reaching.
same issue i had felt geechi second wasnt really directed at lux more about other battlers

I agree. Illmac is embarrassingly slept on.
No.
Facts! As well as Iron vs Lux.
That rant towards the end about simplicity of the message versus lyrical complexity is spot on. It seems like a lot of people forget (or don't realize) that simplifying your writing to concisely convey a message is incredibly difficult and can require a sort of complexity!
Except it's an argument in bad faith. We're talking about Lux, not complex vs simple. To act like Lux is ever up there just rapping random complex material is wild.
Agreed, that point is valid in general to me.
There’s no complexity in that at all

You can see that Lux writes his verses and then goes back and adds references inbetween, that's why he remembers it in different orders.
I guess I’m alone in this, and I know Geechi got the battle fairly clear just on preparation and energy alone … but, Lux material and pen was still incredible and despite the choking I think this battle was a lot closer than people say. It really was a mismatch and I think that’s the problem here.
I Agree 💯 It's definitely ALOT closer to me.
For me it was a preference thing. A lot of Lux's bars, while super high level rap, could be for absolutely anyone. And I always think of what Hollow said: sometimes he needs to slow down just a tiny bit. Sometimes his raps feel like one long run on sentence.
Also Geechi has points on structure but what Gotti said to me was a bit of reaching angle wise and kinda false narratives.
I prefer Lux still
@@DJKuroh Lux's material could be for anyone? What battle did you watch?
I love how lush is actually breaking shit down and giving insight into certain bars based on his knowledge.
Sidenote: There should be a pod that focus' primarily on battle rappers music... Love to be a part of that

I’ve been in that same situation, your burnt friend trying to make a point but having zero clue what they are talking about.
Lush is a battle rap encyclopedia. But the key to clear communication is brevity. If he could make his points more concisely I’d love him on Watch. But dude can’t keep it brief EVER.
“Yea bitch cuz I made it that way”
💀💀💀💀💀💀🔥 geechi is different
Think about what u just said.. you make believing something's fire because of the imaginary persona Geechi represents... take away his Crip affiliation, it's mediocre.. everytime I here the word "bitch" from his mouth he sounds like a corn ball...
From the block to sharin the stage with Drake. Geechi has the Fastest ascent in BR 💪💯
Why he is a 🐐 and Gatekeeper.
Love how Lux added his line from G.O.D at the end. Shit's potent.
This battle is the 1st time Lux miscalculated his approach. When he says “You were expecting the grey hoodie, but you ain’t cold enough,” I know he really believed that. Lux should’ve structured the battle as following:
1st Rd: Premise - My pen > Yours
2nd Rd: Big Bro Geechi - Talk his pioneer shit
3rd Rd: Grey Hoodie Mode and say some alike shit like “I spit conscious for the fans to enhance when they rewatch on cam but sometimes you just gotta talk to these niggas in a language they can innerstand” as the rd intro the pull out the hoodie.
The problem is this stage was similar to a double impact. The lyrical content was off the charts but he needed to put on more of a show. Geechi’s content doesn’t compare, but he put on a show and as Avo stated this is a PERFORMANCE art.
Illmac made a great point about how Lux should’ve approached the battle more deliberately stating the separation of pens as the narrative of the battle.
What show does Geechi put on exactly? Nunu haymakers? Can't act like Geechi is outperforming Lux. Having hometown advantage doesn't equal performance.
@@AuRevoirTune he definitely outperformed em. Had more moments and more haymakers. Used more current events and talked about topics everybody wanted to be spoken on. Lux tried to just be lyrical and lil loc Geechi. He literally made fun of gang bangin in LA… lol definitely coulda took a way better approach
@@AuRevoirTune C’mon be an objective analyst. Geechi catered to the crowd and understood the setting. We all know Lux’s pen is greater than Geechi’s but Lux’s performance was subpar compared to other outings. His double impact battle w/ Hollow is a good example of how he should’ve structured his rounds for this battle.
Lux miscalculated his approach vs the Mook rematch as well. His performances vs Arsonal, 3rd vs Verb, and Charlie were also underwhelming.
@@AuRevoirTune so lux can only cater to east coast crowds? He's supposed to be the goat tho lmaooooo

Wow, is it my birthday? What a great Easter surprise!
“You look cool” Avocado took me out with that 😂😂😂
Respect to Lush for not letting Geechi walk away with that "10k from Diddy" bar. If Lux vs Cal, Diz vs Canibus and Lux vs Hollow don't happen, Geechi Gotti is still Bay Loc out on the streets. You don't have to like it but it's facts

thanks for the commentary. you guys are killin it. i was pretty dissappointed in this battle as a fan of both lux and geechi. they both had bars but honestly i tuned out around the second round and frankly i blame the crowd reaction. It feels like battle rap and big rooms just don't work anymore. They either have no energy like this battle or all gas and either way it makes it hard to pay attention.
I believe Lux dumbing it down for some crowd reaction.
Lush acting like he needed someone to tell him it's a "preference" to stop championing for Geechi this whole time is wild lol. This was the first time anyone has spent that much time trying to push a win one way for everyone instead of just saying why they thought one person win over the other TO THEM. Great dialogue from IllMac came from it though.
If that’s how you took it, you’re greatly mistaken. His whole point is do not give a win just because the intricacy of lyrics boosts ur ego
@@kennylewis722 ....lol that's actually just what you took from it not what he meant. they are having a specific conversation about geechi and lux and he's telling you why other people have lux winning and downplaying luxs style specifically. he's not making a general point about how complexity doesn't mean you won which is not even a good point because it matters what was said and how effective it was said which is the better point illmac was making.
@@KingCooper06 2:10:25 Ill and Lush are agreeing on the exact same thing. They are saying the same thing. Ill is literally saying all that complexity but wtf are you saying. What you say matters but it does not have to be super complex. He said Lux was fire too…
@@kennylewis722....he's agreeing to what illmac was saying like I said. Saying complexity doesn't win the battle isn't the same as actually explaining how complexity can be beneficial or detrimental. he also said people were pole polishers in the chat for saying lux won. I'm not gone rewatch the video to nail down exactly why i said this but he was definitely biased when discussing who won.
Y'all missed that "they don't plant trees in the arenas from lux that shit was fire"
Lush = John Madden. Lot's of words, no substance.
The Surf/Wave/Hair scheme lux did in the 3rd was incredible.
Cant lie, despite the 2nd rn choke and everybody saying lux lost clear, he had the most memorable material to me.
Geechi had amazing material as well though, and won 2-1 to me, but much much closer than people think
I think why battle rappers n fans call it a body is because geechi was very direct and everything except the “lux being a crack head” was actually true and a lot of the true stuff that geechi said nullified the material that lux was using also geechi had most of his material about luc but lux material was everywhere with dry spots cause at first they was reacting but geechi sucked the energy out the room n naturally the fans would go with the hard hitting material they all would catch cause over time they after the first n half way into luc second the crowd was done like think geechi bonbin n talkin every like but lux follows up geechis direct round with a puzzle but none of that puzzle addressed geechis points he made
He didn’t choke in the 2nd
@@onerealzay5371 lux material was legit all about Geechi and a narrative/angle surrounding him. He was direct. The way he gets to his points is just not preferred over geechis approach. Geechi does less with words, and it benefits him when he faces an opponent that plays with words
The lux pause in R3 ok ok by me. The sheer amount of quality content by both is wildly impressive.
Next day upload?! We are in a parallel universe
I doooo
This was a wild breakdown of Lux. The one crucial element missing is scarcity. No matter what, a Lux battle is anticipated simply because it doesn’t happen often. There’s an added novelty to him and Mooks performances simply because there so rare. Not to say either are bad in any stretch, but it’s the quality that takes them from Great to Goat status. It’s honestly even more evidence that Geechi’s the Goat, because he doesn’t have the benefit of scarcity and is still compared to them.
he has believability and simple double entendre in a hood way that relatable he sales it. But far as what he saying no he not the goat. He microwavable so he can battle everyday if he wanted. Him Charlie clips got that type style
@@eyemeal There’s a difference between microwave Charlie Clips and the efficiency of JC. He understands that no matter how crazy the word play, you need to have simple, great punches in-between to keep people engaged. You can’t bank on everybody wanting to go back and do the science, I love that shit, but it’s not fair to others that just want to be entertained. Daylyt does this perfectly. Day captures your attention with a good solid punch, then goes into his esoteric bag, and we appreciate and understand it more BECAUSE he’s retaining our engagement. And, if all else fails, and no one catches it, they still heard the good bar before it. Especially in the Geechi battle, Lux had too much space between his solid lines, that sometimes I just lose track of what he’s saying. Its so layered and dense, but for too long, and people don’t have time to absorb all of it in the moment. It’s not that it’s bad or filler, it’s just that Lux actively makes it difficult for people to follow him, and then he’s a genius somehow.
@@eyemeal also, it’s funny that Most of Lux’s most iconic bars (Harlem hospital, Halloween of it, Lux fully load the 9, quicksand, etc.) ARE his simplest bars lol.
@@kennethfocarino7075 he not doing gun bars and all the filler you think he saying is really directed at his opponent and they great punches once you catch it
Geechi on the clips path, he only goated by some cause we used to him, but should he be scarce his return would he flat
I love Lux, I'm a Geechi fan as well....but Lux is more lyrical, Geechi is good at what he does...but he's simple and that's what matters in the room. People get him right away. With Lux, you have to pay close attention to what he's saying. Many probably won't get it at first. Complexity is good for small rooms, I don't think it comes across so well on the big stage🤷🏾♀️
Lame excuse is lame. Lux lost. Y’all be using that word “lyrical” as a crutch for Lux.

No. We got it, it just wasn’t THAT good. Lux intricate bars aren’t actually always THAT good. Lux will never evolve himself as long as his fans accept even his most mediocre and unimpressive performances
@@SlimShadyCypher You are 100% projecting, and you're most likely a Geechi fan OR you just want things to be simple. You just watched a video where the consensus was Lux was too complex for ur average fan to digest. Eazy da Block Captain broke down all rounds and the consensus was that Lux won without the stumbles CLEAR. However he stumbled.. and I had Lux losing. Because I have no bias. Stating that Lux's intricate bars "aren't actually that good" are "mediocre" and "unimpressive", say's more about YOUR lack of ability to evolve. Lux doesn't need to dumb down anything.

After their tangent on how lux’s style is perceived and how it can be effective … and they end on the goofiest jokes ever. I love it
The “Geechi” thing was accurate except it’s more so based in South Carolina. Charleston to be specific. They all talk with an island dialect and referred to as “Geechi”. It might be heavy in Virginia as well but I do know it’s mostly prevalent in the Carolinas.
1:03:35 I been telling people this and they literally refuse to admit it even though they'll admit they've never actually looked into any studies surrounding it. The dogmatism surrounding some dietary shit in america is weird.
The “Shit like that” came from when Nas was actually talking about being on stage w/ Smack.
Lux wasn't confirming Tay Roc. He was confirming Geechi asking, "am i lying or not?" Lux nodded and said you lying. - Mac should've got that correct
RE: Geechis 3rd. Its wild that every single battle rap event got robbed by Crips after the fact, and URL still stayed in business long enough for Geechi to pop off

The entourage changed the energy...The intervals of Geechi talking to them controlled the narrative of the battle. I got to be said that if that was NY and a NY battler tried to bully a wit we will beat yo azz. I think the culture would call it NY bias.

Lux was better, but stumbled and the battle is debatable. There are two Battle Rap camps. WWE RAP fans and Battle Rap Fans. And that's that.. dont waste your energy explaining to someone why a bar or scheme was great, when they're quoting the moment Geechi spoke to Lux's crew and calling it fire.
But, 3 middle aged white men under 6 feet tall said it was scary…
You mean some are BATTLE RAP fans, while others are topical free verse fans?
