Viva la Revolution-
Steve
Finally got around to testing this film using 510 Pyro stand development as you outlined in the video. Something went wrong, not entirely sure what. Shot the roll at EI 50 in a camera with a known functioning light meter, shutter speeds and apertures appropriate for lighting conditions. Known good bottle of developer, 1+500 dilution. 45 minute development at 68°F. Nothing in the shadows whatsoever; dramatically thin highlight areas with minimal detail visible. Looks like significant under-development. Oh well, that’s film!
Hmmmm-- mixed distilled h2o? 50 should be very solid -- lower EI will definitely have more shadows but 50 should be good-- not sure what to suggest--
Amazing - thanks for the simple to understand info, princess kitty is adorable
Thanks for sharing this. I've never tried stand development before so that was interesting to see.
Stephen, can’t wait to try this film. I love Ortho films. Looks like it might be a minute before it gets rolled out in the US. Dare we hope that either Ferrania film might be released also in 120…?
In other news - have you heard of *anything* regarding Imacon scanner software for 64-bit MacOS? I really don’t want to have to run an ancient Mac, or Windows, to use my scanner. I picked up an Epson V850, so at least there’s a good alternative option. I’d really like to keep my imacon though.
I tried Ferrania P30 a while back but really had a hard time nailing down a developer I liked in the Jobo. Starting to experiment with stand development so we’ll see where that takes me.
Thanks for an excellent overview.
Yep there will be a 120 version of both P30 and ORTO I suspect this month or next in the USA. Hasselblad and turned its back on us Imacon users so for now it is an old IOS on a second Mac for me-
Thanks for really good advice. Am about to try this. I found P30 looked like photocopies of photos rather than photos but I probably messed up the processing. I will try stand processing. Hope you enjoyed Scotland (I’m in Edinburgh). Also watched your video on Phoenix 200 as I really like the film and its mustard look 😮. Your scans of that film looked awful. I scan at home and get a much better looking more usable image. Keep up good work.
I was definitely able to get better scans
At my studio but still not a film I love-- yet!
This was super useful and thorough. Please do make a vid if you do similar with other film stocks.
Scroll back on FR- lots of film tests are posted.
According to Ferrania's website the developing time for Orto is about twice as long as the development time for P30 (looking at D76 specifically). Are they in error?
I really dislike how they post their times as it is difficult to read but suspect it is correct as they only list a few developers.
How many minutes in Rodinal 1+50?
14 at 68F
I wish they would release some 120 film. this looks promising
Both films will be in 120 this month or next….
@@FIGITALREVOLUTION that is good news. thanks
Great job! This is so useful, pyro 510 results are quite nice, could this dilution, temp and dev time work for P30 as well?
Yep times / temp and dilutions would be spot on for both.
@@FIGITALREVOLUTION Great! EI 80 should be good as well? Thanks for answering
Would of been cool if you also tested in in D76 / ID11 but looks interesting never the less. Wonder how it prints in the dark room? Surprised the Rodinal looked so good
There was another person doing this testing that was looking at D76 so I did not want to be redundant- the times for both of those developers would be the same or very close to the same as the published times for P30. And yeah the Rodinal looked great as it does with P30.
@@FIGITALREVOLUTION Ah ok cool, ID11 and Rodinal are my main developers I lean into depending on stock I'm using so it's all gravy. Is this film supposed to be out yet as I can't find any one that stocks it at least here in the UK? Will be heading to Italy next month, maybe they have some there lol Also great to see a more technical video rather than "this film makes me feel like the colour purple"
@@vinyljunkie07 There was a snag from my understanding but it is coming out very soon.... glad you like the review!
At the sound (and look of it) it seems they produced a P30 without some dies, doesn’t it? Maybe it was an easy way to give a new option at lower cost for them.
It’s interesting and does have a different feeling -- and both will also be in 120 which makes me very happy!
@@FIGITALREVOLUTION Any idea when the 120 will be released?
@@FIGITALREVOLUTION for sure nothing wrong in offering a wider palette of options.
This month or next-- stay tuned!
