the thing about whistle tone is this MINNIE RIPERTON was a soprano without a break to her voice ! she could hit notes that they really didn't have instruments to proprtly note at that time

Also have a look at 'People' where she showcases an expansive level of agility in her runs and OPERATIC head voice abilities! She truly is one in a million. Shanice is a beast as well too! MC fans are purely envious of Desiree and scared to give in to the fact that Dez is beyond her league vocally!

I am learning about Coleman today. It also comes down to songwriting and music quality- if people have the right song to sing for their voice that gives them an edge. A lot of people who talent who haven’t found their sound sometimes don’t get a shot to really shine. I wonder if this happened to Coleman? I think if she had had the right overall musical clarity out the gate this would be even harder to judge. I appreciate them both. Mariah has always been a amazing songwriter and singer and her hits give her a different mainstream edge. That’s the biggest difference. They both are doing amazing things with their voices. Mariah sounds fine she sung We Belong Together live in Morocco slayed the ending #DEAL WITH IT. She sounds raspy at times yes but shes recording in the studio and overuse of the voice makes the tone scratchy. Unlike Shitnice Mariah sings in mainly chest she doesnt mix like a walrus bitch with a high larynx, so the tone is more beautiful and natural :)
I like your comment a lot. I too have a passion for singers who whistle, especially when thay have a beautiful voice to go with it. From what I've gathered Desiree had put her career on hold to be a wife to Mark Jackson (Basketball player) at the start of the 1990s. She is now pursuing her career but I think she is doing so on her own label so you may not find her on itunes but I checked her twitter and last Friday she realeased a new cd available on cdbaby com.

Wow her whistle, was gooodd. More important, it's a real --- safe whistle! People with wide vocal range should serve their vocal a lot of rest... because singing with monstrous range can be tiring. She had a nice trained vocal. Just make sure she gave herself a lot of rest. I am a man and i have 4 and half octave range But it was hard to jump around and maintain safe singing ( i mean no vein and such ).

I feel like Desiree does her whistles for show instead of using them for her musical passion or to express an emotion. Another thing that sorta irks me is the fact that she whistles like Christina. She has to work her way up the scale instead of hitting the note and sustaining it. I don't want to be biased, but Mariah's whistles are always clean, crisp, she knows how to manipulate that register, and she uses her whistles to express emotions or for musical ornamentary. If that's a word. LOL.

Everyone with a brain knows it's a challenge for people in the pop industry to preserve their voices for the simple fact of how rock and roll culture is. Drugs, alcohol, and many other abuses to the voice take their toll over 20 years. Better voices had become worse in much less time, not everyone is as square as Celine. Plus SHITNICE is irrelevant she didnt record something since 1902? She's had alot of vocal rest and didnt use her voice enough to damage it XD

Just looking at this argument... I think Mariah's live performance of the one sorta rebuttles any question of her improvisational skills. Even in Morocco, she did improv when he audio messed up. They are right you know. Shanice's skill in singing is subpar anyway so what makes you think she's anywhere near MC who in her prime(and even after) murdered everybody in the game vocally, cept Whitney. You might throw in that she got them because when she was little she strained or etc, but that's not the case. Nodules can also develop when one sings constantly, which she did.

Wow! I can't believe it. Are people actually dissing Desiree trying to bring down her exceptional talent? There is NO personal opinion when it comes to her technical abilities. I'm a huge Mariah fan, but I have an affinity for pretty much everyone who can sing in the whistle register because it is so rare. I don't know why this woman isn't better known, not that anything should be taken away from Mariah. It is not her fault that these other artists don't have her level of fame. Mariah sounds fine she sung We Belong Together live in Morocco slayed the ending #DEAL WITH IT. She sounds raspy at times yes but shes recording in the studio and overuse of the voice makes the tone scratchy. Unlike Shitnice Mariah sings in mainly chest she doesnt mix like a walrus bitch with a high larynx, so the tone is more beautiful and natural :)
I like your comment a lot. I too have a passion for singers who whistle, especially when thay have a beautiful voice to go with it. From what I've gathered Desiree had put her career on hold to be a wife to Mark Jackson (Basketball player) at the start of the 1990s. She is now pursuing her career but I think she is doing so on her own label so you may not find her on itunes but I checked her twitter and last Friday she realeased a new cd available on cdbaby com.

Wow her whistle, was gooodd. More important, it's a real --- safe whistle! People with wide vocal range should serve their vocal a lot of rest... because singing with monstrous range can be tiring. She had a nice trained vocal. Just make sure she gave herself a lot of rest. I am a man and i have 4 and half octave range But it was hard to jump around and maintain safe singing ( i mean no vein and such ).

Love Desiree's whistles and runs at 9:04! but Mariah wins for me. More depth vocally. Desiree seems to just do it because she can (at least to me) whereas with Mariah it has to do with the melody or emotion of the song. Desiree did impress me, though. Well done.

I feel like Desiree does her whistles for show instead of using them for her musical passion or to express an emotion. Another thing that sorta irks me is the fact that she whistles like Christina. She has to work her way up the scale instead of hitting the note and sustaining it. I don't want to be biased, but Mariah's whistles are always clean, crisp, she knows how to manipulate that register, and she uses her whistles to express emotions or for musical ornamentary. If that's a word. LOL.
Wow really? always knew nodules had a role, but the constant use of her falsetto(well, she passed more air than a normal falsetto) also had a negative effect? Wow. Coupled with age. Wow. Eh the breathy/airy singing though does sound awesome and does add affect. I would say it takes tremendous skill and breath control too. And her lower register and whislte is still intact. On good days her upper register is aweomse too. Ehh there's a price for every great thing I guess.

see the problem here is that desiree coleman has a voice that sounds like she would hit the whistle register, mariah's voice was deep and husky and can move from alto to soprano singing passages, which made her's so much more impressive.
Everyone with a brain knows it's a challenge for people in the pop industry to preserve their voices for the simple fact of how rock and roll culture is. Drugs, alcohol, and many other abuses to the voice take their toll over 20 years. Better voices had become worse in much less time, not everyone is as square as Celine. Plus SHITNICE is irrelevant she didnt record something since 1902? She's had alot of vocal rest and didnt use her voice enough to damage it XD

After TEOM and I dare say E=MC2(that's a good album) is when themusic might have lacked a bit. Her Xmas album was amazing though and her new album will probably be awesme as well.
Just looking at this argument... I think Mariah's live performance of the one sorta rebuttles any question of her improvisational skills. Even in Morocco, she did improv when he audio messed up. And I'll Be There, she did great improv, and it sounded great. They are right you know. Shanice's skill in singing is subpar anyway so what makes you think she's anywhere near MC who in her prime(and even after) murdered everybody in the game vocally, cept Whitney. Her technique, even though you might want to believe different- was flawless. Nodules were the only thing that was bad. You might throw in that she got them because when she was little she strained or etc, but that's not the case. Nodules can also develop when one sings constantly, which she did.
