Tennis has a long Olympic history but withdrew from the programme after 1924. It did not return as a medal sport until 1988. Professionals are now welcome to compete, and the Olympic competition includes men's and women's singles and men's and women's doubles.

Serena Williams is basically the next pioneer before our eyes.
After she retires, many more players are going to believe that they too can win MULTIPLE slams after the age of 30. All gained through careful schedule planning.
Players in the past (and most of Serena's competitors today) play way too much tennis. Making it all about the flawed ranking system and trying to get to no. 1.
EVERY "top" player's schedule should be relatively slam-focused.

Margaret Court didn't count when Steffi was considered the GOAT for years with the most slams. She doesn't count NOW. They only started mentioning Court when Serena got close to Steffi's total. When she breaks Court's inflated record, they'll start tallying total slam titles...basically that's what Court she would do. She said she'll still be better because she has more slams overall. Old bitter Court, you only have as many slams because NOBODY played the Aussie Open for years and she was the only participant b/c the tourney was in her backyard. Also, there was no competition. Look how Court performed at the other slams against all the competition...

I think Jankovic´s smile was very gracious and nice. ´Whoever calls that a "loser" has no sport´s spirit. It is all about competing. Brava Serena for your great match and Jankovic for her sportmanship and for been a Lady.

Well, unfortunately for Jelena, she hasn't won a single major title. Not One Slam win in her career & I think Jelena's only been to one Slam final losing to Serena at the 2008 US Open final. So, Sharapova definitely has a much better pro tennis resume than Jankovic.

Yeah, explained perfectly...Thats the reason why Venus and Serena are still here after age 30, especially Venus with her bone fatigue disease. Everyone is like oh i have to play this tournament, and that one, and your right, focus should be on the slams, thats when you know your tennis is paying off when your successful at slams...The ranking system is a flaw anyways, we know who the real #1 is anyways. Not to take anything from Azarenka who will probably be most dominant after Serena retires
Boy nothings impossible with Serena..No one knows what she is capable of her serve alone could let her win more than 4 slams not to mention the other aspects of her game..do not make it arduous in a way that u are trying so hard to predict things outside ur scope =))

I think Serena finishing her career with a 20 or more slams is beyond doable.
I think that it's once she gets there that we should start speaking of how hard it will be to win a few more.
She is not at that point in her career yet....never has a 31 year old male or female played tennis this well before. Agassi was the closest.
