Anna is by far my favorite. She is actually ELITE. Also her body type is like, perfect. How.
Man, I have a lot of empathy for Mat. He may have fucked up, but he's only a kid, and as he said, he's on his own for the first time, and very very far away from his family. NYC can be big and harsh and terrifying enough as a native like myself. At his age and in his situation, would any of us have done better? I wish him all the best and hope he finds his way back to his feet again.
h .chen there are kids younger than him who go overseas for this kind of opportunity. the youngest girl in the group is doing a great job. it was all on him to step up. if he was having trouble, a quick chat could've saved everyone thinking he was just lazy or something
Sometimes it's really hard to have that chat when you feel like you're trying very hard just keeping yourself together. I'm definitely not saying it wasn't on him to step up. I'm also not saying that he should be excused for screwing up, which he did. I'm just trying to express that I feel for him because this is a reality show, and there's a lot going on beyond just the cameras that we don't see. I get the sense that with Mat there's a whole lot more than meets our eye, and he seems troubled. So I'm sending him good vibes, because everyone's got their lows, but Mat had his broadcast to the world.

The thing is, it's like any other endeavor, especially athletic ones. In sports, the person who can show up to a competition and perform has probably shown up to practice every time and performed. Performance is a learned trait, and if one doesn't care to learn it, then they can replace him or her with someone who cares.
He knew what was expected of him. He made a choice and abused a position another person trying out didn't get. He abused and disrespected the school and teachers and even though he is young and I feel for him he won't learn if he just skates through on progress pity. He's got to grow up and learn you have to work hard and fight for your dreams in the real world and mama and daddy can't be there to hold your hand. This is where he would have benefited from making his team-mates his stand in family and seen they'd be his biggest support system when his family isn't there but he didn't give them a chance or take his role seriously. Hard to feel sorry for someone that's given the best opportunity and pisses it away and feel entitled to a different set of rules than ask the others go by.

I hope they found Matt some help. It's fair that he's off the team and good to learn there are consequences early, the ballet world is pretty brutal and they're professional so young. But he is just a kid still and he does seem to have depression symptoms, maybe he'll never be a ballet pro but he should still be cared for as a human.

I honestly feel kinda bad for Matt even though this was on his doing... I also feel the people in the comments are being too harsh. We know what's on the internet but we do not know reality and me being crazy into psychology and sciences... I can tell there's more to the story than we are seeing. He was on his own for the first time and doesn't really have anyone to guide him. He's just a kid as I'm assuming a large majority of us are. I'm not even on as large as a scale but I'm going to college soon and it's going to be my first time on my own and I'm terrified. Certain people need to learn they are training to be professionals. They are not professionals yet but that is what they were working for. Yeah there's people younger than him but who are you to be the judge of him? You have no clue what he could be going through. I, even in my tiny town, often feel intimidated by the world. I can only imagine NYC... a huge change can lead to depression, anxiety, isolation, etc. I have been all three of those and trust me, it is not as easy as people try and make it sound to seek help. I was trying to hide it and I got caught. He was not lazy, I think he was just scared and has 100% the right to be. I guess in other words, back off. I'm sorry if it sounds harsh or rude but seriously? what would you have done in his situation. Do not dare try and make yourselves sound better because even I would have the desire to say oh I'd kill it out there and do everything I've got to do. The reality of it is I'd probably be having an existential crisis and hide in a corner terrified! I may not know Matt but from what I can see, I do not think he is a bad kid. I think he is just human and goes through mistakes and emotions just like the rest of us. (sorry the comment is long, but I had to get it out there.)
I agree, It's very easy for us to judge from the outside in. He didn't meet the expectations of the coaches, But that doesn't necessarily mean he's not cutout for the industry or that we have any right to harp on him like we know best....

THANK YOU. I tried to make a similar point in a different comment and got a lot of "oh there are kids younger than him who do well" and this and that. Honestly, as someone attending an Ivy League institution but ALSO on 100mg of Zoloft a day, I understand very well that there's always a lot more than meets the eye with issues involving wellness and I can see it in Mat. He's an 18 year old boy in a rough patch. There just happened to be cameras around for his.

lyrics for life Matt not being prepared to be there for his partner could possibly ruin the ballerinas career for letting her fall!!!! They hung on to him longer than they should have. These are not children they are young dancer with a lot more expected from them and they understand that!!!

For those who feel empathetic for Matt, he had his chance. Many of these kids are young, Neve is only 13 and she's here handling this pressure and doing it very well. He had his chance and he didn't take it seriously. Dance schools are hard and very independent and he paid the price of his actions.
Not to mention the competition is very harsh. They chose only 40 out of what 400 applicants?? The dance world is extremely competitive and people would give anything to be on this Elite team and he had this opportunity and he just threw it away? I mean he didn't show up for classesm something that's very fundamental!! If you don't show up for classes, how are you going to learn the dance? Dance is all you do!!! Not showing up for classes in the dance world is like us not showing up for work. And he was already warned, and then warned again, and then put on suspension. I mean I would understand if he had sustained injuries or something but it's none of that. He just chose not to show up!! Imagine if you don't show up for work and your supervisor warns you once, and then a second time and then suspends you and puts you on probation and you still don't show up for work. How long do you think you would last at that job??

i hope being on your own gets easier mat! i'm 21 and away from my family and i get so down about it sometimes... just keep in mind that when you do see your family again you'll be so happy! that's what keeps me going. if the school has a counselor please see them about how you feel. trust me it'll help

I absolutely hate people that waste the opportunities of others. How many people wanted that spot, and have been robbed by someone who didn't show up and didn't do the work. Yes, you are far from home, and its difficult, but reach out for help. Talk to all the others in the same boat because NY is full of them. It would take some miracle if he ever auditioned again, for me to chose him over another prospective candidate. Once in a lifetime opportunities are just that. Use them wisely.

I feel so sad for Matías, but in the other hand I do not see Joffrey elite like a school or a place to grow up. They choose people to win competitions, not to teach them, because they learned dance before.
Matías, I do not know you, but I hope You reach your dreams. Most of the Best and famous dancers in the world didnt come from Joffrey.

this was the first episode where they all really acted and trained like soon to be professional dancers
i guess but since this is like just the competition team, we don't see them actually training outside of really just learning choreography because they take classes completely outside of the team.

A lot can be said with his name @ the "whatever" Matt! Dancers being ill prepared have to potential of ruining their partners careers for not being there to catch them or letting them fall! I think they hung on to him longer than they should have.

To compete against a hundred and fifty people and then make it is phenomenal. However, to miss practice and not know the steps and show no interest in correcting that is really sad sad sad. This guy they let go is not ready. He's not responsible nor is he mature enough to handle any type of commitment to accompany the demands perfection. I don't feel sorry for him per se but I do feel bad because he some day is going to be sorry and look back on that with regret. I wish him well.

Although I kind of feel bad for Matt, he brought this on himself. He got in to one of the most prestigious ballet schools in the country and he took advantage of his position on the school’s elite dance team. He got accepted onto the elite team, he was 1 out of 130 people, he got 2 warnings, but he still couldn’t commit. Because he couldn’t commit, he took away the position from another aspiring dancer who would’ve been more than happy to participate in these dance numbers from the beginning.

Doing lifts and tricks like that fish can take a while to get for some people... There is a natural communication that just suddenly clicks and once that happens you will get it every time.

I agree with Bronte Ceresa, getting dizzy not just depends on spotting or not... I get dizzy really easily because of low blood pressure (for exemple just standing up too quickly makes me dizzy) so body types and constitution plays an even bigger role than spotting or not.

lol yes it is joffrey has expanded and now the company is in chicago, but they still take classes at the main Joffrey studio and are considered students there, and even live the the joffrey ballet school accommodation
