  • I try to throw with air dried clay. I bought clay from some art stores and the hardware store to experiment with on the wheel. This is my first attempt!... see how it goes...

Use uv resin if your looking for durability. Air dry clay can never be non toxic it’s can only be use for decor

Thanks... Yes I'm thinking it would have to be resin.... I dislike the fumes... But ohh well 😂

How do you know when the finished product is dry enough to use?

oh... that's such a good question, the pack usually say a few days. It is so weather dependent and also really depends on the thickness of the piece you make. What i have found is that if work is thin it is really weak. I'm just finishing a video about this to upload in the next few days.

Can you please make a tray, like useful for watercolor palette, like that of say Meeden or Robax using this air dry clay. I wanted to make my own, but I'm not sure will that work for watercolor or not, and how to coat it white or any to be useful. It would be great help if you can show to do such palette with this clay.

What is the clay that you used please? You didn’t say. I would be using it on a mini wheel.

I'm in Australia so i think this info is going to be quite specific to this location. I used Boyles crafty clay from Bunnings warehouse. This was super fine so good for mini a wheel. I have tried some more fibrous air dried clay which would be more difficult to use on a mini wheel. My suggestion would be to use the smoothest, finest air dried clay Hope you find something that works well. Mini wheels are fun!

So sorry its not working for throwing. Its very likely the clay you are using. Does the clay feel like normal ceramic clay or does it feel more gluey and lumpy? The black clay i used was quite gluey. I was a little tentative and made some lower flatter things. The clay in this video was more like a ceramic clay and i could throw larger taller pieces. There are so many different air dry clays. Its really worth trying a few. The trouble i found is that they don't include ingredients so you dont really know what your are getting when purchasing.
