- Spring has sprung at the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, and that means only one thing ... Open Air is back! These cars are typically used from mid-April until early November and are quite popular.
If you've been watching my channel any length of time, you know these are my favorite cars in all of Reading & Northern's fleet. In this video I'll walk through three of these cars to show you what to expect if you ride one of them.

Nice update & I love those murals 🚂🚃🚃
Thanks! Those murals are a unique touch and fit in well with the gorge scenery.
Very interesting. Thank you.
Thanks Rosie!
Very entertaining but those open air cars play havoc on my hair. 😢
Thanks Dennis! I ride the cars and let my hair get messed up so you don't have to lol.
Awesome video Jamie
Thanks Marilyn!
Thank you Jamie!!
Glad you enjoyed it Kevin!
Great video
Thanks!
Another great PR video!, but..... those open air cars are a little toooo open for me 😔, especially with my allergies. I would be sneezing like crazy, and would just be miserable, a completely enclosed car would be better for me, but thats how it goes sometimes 😵😷☹.
Pollen season is off the charts here, but I find I have issues with it even in the enclosed cars. The stuff gets everywhere!
@@JamieMakin and whats strange about pollen, is even on a rainy day, they issue pollen alerts in Illinois. I would think that the rain would soak it into the ground where it belongs. And we're getting ready for Cicada season, two different broods are emerging together for the first time in a little over 200 years, when Thomas Jefferson was president. Its going to be plenty noisy from mid-May until the first week or so of July. And if the noise "bugs me"🤣🤣🤣🤣, i can just take off my hearing aids, and will hear, "nothing, nothing!"
To be able to turn off the cicada's noise is a true superpower lol!
I'm wondering if the Appalachian Trail started life as a Jim Crow car? Southern railroads were required by law up into the 1960s to segregate passengers by color.
That's an excellent question. The partition wall sure has that same look as others on Southern Railway from that era.
